Grey Shorts Suit, Mustard and Leopard

We're down to the wire now, with only a few outfit opportunities left in my spring/summer wardrobe season. Ann, I haven't forgotten about your request - it will be my final work outfit before the closet swap-over.

Because I only have one more reader request to go, I decided to pick a few things myself that I've been wanting to wear again, like these shorts - which I fully intended on wearing this season and have not - and this amazing vintage early 00s Vivienne Westwood Red Label blazer.
I made them into a suit! I was inspired by Lovely the blogger (link here), specifically, this post here from October 2021 - I even left a comment saying she'd inspired me to wear shorts with a suit jacket! And then I never did - so it's about time!

  • Jacket - Vivienne Westwood Red Label, thrifted; last seen here in February with orange Boss Lady pants
  • Blouse - H&M, thrifted; last worn here in January with tweed and swirls
  • Shorts - David Brooks, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in August 2021 with baby blue and dots
  • Shoes - Banana Republic, consignment; last worn here in January with browns and leopard
  • Loomed Lady coat (below) - vintage 60s, thrifted; last seen here in November 2021

My extra inspiration came from Kristen Stewart's rock & roll outfit at the Oscars on Sunday (link here 'cause I love) - shorts and jacket, with a loose blouse underneath.
While my outfit is a far cry from the Chanel ensemble she wore, I do have a little bit of chi-chi designer in my look to give me swagger.

My swanky blazer just oozes quality - it's 100% wool, and has Westwood's signature "holy hand grenade" design woven into the lining and etched into the buttons. I have another grey blazer by her that is my spring/summer version.
The shorts are also wool, and are from the 80s - can you see the massive pleats?

You know what they say about big pleats? Yup, big pockets!
I pulled out this blouse due to the floppy bow at the front. I'm a fan of this mustard/marigold shade - it's surprisingly useful.

Masked up - one of my three leopard ones.
From there, I added the leopard belt and shoes. Pretty easy!

Outerwear - it's chilly in the mornings, but warm and sunny in the afternoons.
Perfect weather for the Loomed Lady!

Accoutrements:
I walked home with my blazer and coat wide open, gloves and scarf stuffed in my pockets.

  • Scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

Eh, that's how it goes in spring! Wait ten minutes and the weather will change.

The stuff:
I'm still on the lookout for the Perfect Leopard Shoes. I have this high-heeled pair in my Archives, but that heel is just too high for me these days - and yes, the ones I'm wearing today are the mentioned pair that I turfed into the giveaway pile in that post! I pulled them out again, as I like the block heel. I'm not a fan of that "loafer" toe/vamp, although they look better with this menswear-ish look than with a dress.

Gold bling:
Taking my cue from the gold buckle on the belt and the golden tones of the blouse.

  • Belt - Talbots, thrifted
  • Necklace - Anne Klein, vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Bracelet/earrings set - Alexis Bittar, consignment; gift from L
  • "Fang" bracelet - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Brass ring - vintage mall
  • Steel ring - POLY by Christoph Poly, vintage expo
  • Brooch - vintage mall

  1. I am agog that the jacket and shorts didn’t come as a suit! I enlarged the picture and they look like a perfect match thanks to the grey wool. I like the contrast between the darker suit and the lighter Loomed Lady (definitely they mimic the variability of Spring weather. :)) The outfit is a classic style to my mind…lengthen the shorts to pants, turn the suit a subdued pink, and it’s like the interview outfit I wore in the 1970s. (Laughing, with fondness, at my style back then. ;))

    1. In person, the shorts are a fuzzier wool than the blazer, which has a smoother texture, but it's not that noticeable. Ha, I love that you'd turn the suit pink - I would love to see that old suit!!

    2. Ah, that pink suit is long since gone and I only have pictures of it in my mind. Just imagine it with a brighter pink long sleeve turtleneck and thick long curly red hair and you will surely conjure up a very 70s look. ;-)

  2. This is such a fun shorts suit! I really like mustard and grey together and although you mentioned that you aren't a fan of these particular shoes I do think they go nicely in this outfit and the leopard is a perfect accessory!

    1. Thanks, Mica! I agree, the shoes worked with this outfit, but I would prefer a pair that look nice with skirts and dresses. Leopard is the best!

  3. You pull off the shorts and suit look, Shiela! Oh, do let me know when you find the perfect leopard shoes. 🐆 X

  4. Anything with a Westwood item looks amazing. But I have to say, I'm a fan of this outfit! And I agree on the shoes, they look good on a kind of androgynous outfit.

  5. I really like the shorts suit! And Holy Hand grenade made me snort! Is that really what it is!?!???!?
Beautiful orange top too and all the accompaniments to it!!!
In reference to your question about the cartoon bag- it's a proper handbag- the size of a regular satchel although it's a little thinner than satchel to maintain the 2D illusion.x

    1. Thanks, Kezzie! Yes, she uses a "holy hand grenade" symbol in most of her clothing. The lining of this jacket is woven with it. Check out the pics from the Flashback here: https://sheilaephemera.blogspot.com/2020/11/all-dots-and-grey-westwood-flashback.html - see?

      Thank you so much!

OMG, I need to see that satchel in action! Wow!

  6. The city shorts and jacket are so good together, an inspired outfit choice, Sheila! The Loomed Lady adds a delightful spring-like touch, even though its snowing here.
I'd not heard Dame Viv's Orb called a Holy Hand Grenade before, I thought that was a Monty Python thing. xxx

    1. I was glad I'd decided to revisit this combination, thanks, Vix! Ack, snow! That's horrid!

Lol, it's what I call it - no idea if the Pythons took it from her or if it was just coincidental.

  7. Very well put together. And very on trend, which you don't care haha.

  8. The shorts and jackets couldn't have been a more perfect match, and you could have fooled me into believing they were an actual suit! The marigold blouse with its floppy bow adds a frivolous touch, as do the the leopard shoes, even if I'm hearing you on the "loafer" style, which isn't normally my thing either. Oh, and how wonderful to see the Loomed Lady again, which is one of my favourite coats of yours! xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! The fabrics are more noticeably different weights when you see them side by side, but it's certainly not visible if you didn't know. I liked the floppy bow too!

      I know that's a fave - I need to wear her more!

  10. The jacket and shorts work perfectly as a suit, and the blouse is an excellent colour for it, as is the leopard accessories. Great outfit all round!

  11. Agreed massively regarding the versatility of a great mustard/saffron yellow piece.

Over the years, I have come to think of this colour as a quasi-neutral and enjoy sporting the whole year through (in part because it is one of only a teeny tiny handful of yellow shades that do not look scarily awful on me, lol!).

Such a great outfit. Those 1980s shorts are perfection in my books. Elegant, classic, and ever-so-chic!
