Disco and Roses

Today, I felt like indulging my inner Disco Goddess, inspired by this new-to-me vintage 70s disco sweater.
I also wanted to get another wearing in of this fabulous neoprene skirt. Neoprene is a little warm for spring/summer, so I might not keep it out past the end of March.

  • Sweater - Dusia for Gibsons, vintage 70s, thrifted; purchased here for $7.95
  • Skirt - Richard Quinn x Debenhams; consignment; first worn here in October 2021 with black neoprene
  • Shoes - Celestial Communication Andromeda, Fluevog; last seen and Flashbacked here in December 2020 for New Year's Eve
  • Coat (below) - Sisley, consignment; last worn here in October 2021

As we roll into March and with my ginormous 6-month closet swapover coming, I tend to start reviewing my closet for any not-yet-worn items for the season, and giving some of the clothes that I'm not really sure of a long look. Do I still love this? Does it make me feel great? Why am I keeping this if I'm not wearing it?
These are some of the things I think about when I'm browsing in my closet, as I try to ensure that 95% of my wardrobe gets worn (the other 5% are party gowns or specialty seasonal items).

The verdict on this lovely skirt was YES, I love it. I love the painty rose pattern, the bold pink/orange/red colour (it's all of them) and the fit, which is just right. I like this length, which makes me look far taller than my 5'4" stature.
The slit at the back is high enough to allow me to stride about, as I am wont to do.

I also loved my disco sweater, as I knew I would. The fit is just right, the shape works well on me - that's a great neckline. I layered a black camisole under it as it's slightly sheer.
It's hard to see the sparkly black thread in it here, but it's very sparkly in person. It didn't come across well on Teams (hello, I'm a black blob), so mental note to wear it for shopping or non-work days.

Masked up - this is a rose petal pattern.

Outerwear - all the red!
I ended up pulling my scarf out so that it was floating down my front, and I unsnapped the coat at the end both ways on my walk to/from work. It was actually sunny for a bit!

More roses on the scarf.

  • Hat - vintage 80s, thrifted, Vancouver
  • Gloves - Echo, consignment
  • Scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Such pretty shoes! They are rather high for me these days, but my feet were feeling strong today. I'll behave and wear "good" shoes tomorrow.

Silver bling:
My silver bracelet hasn't been worn much lately - it's starting to tarnish.

  • Silver racelet - JPL, vintage fair
  • Bangle - R&G Co., vintage 1920s, vintage mall
  • White gold hoops - gift from L, 5th anniversary
  • Crystal heart pendant - found on the sidewalk
  • Chain ring - Taxco, Mexico, Charmaine's
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair

My disco sweater reminded me of two other times when I've gone Full Disco:

  1. Your skirt is so pretty and this whole look is beautiful! You look fab!

  2. I'm glad you decided the Neoprene roses skirt is a keeper, as it's absolutely fabulous! Ooh, and matching rose patterned mask and scarf too! Loving the sparkly disco jumper as well, but I'm having to take your word for its sparkliness as it's very hard to see. I'm finding sparkly garments hard to photograph in general, which is a shame really. Silly cameras!
I need to give some of my clothes a long look too, but I've been a bit overwhelmed with things lately and thus not in the right frame of mind to make such decisions. I might end up with a minimalist wardrobe if I'm not careful :-) xxx

    1. I didn't have any doubt about it, but I wanted to wear it again before putting it away for the season. Yes, that sparkle will have to be mine alone, sadly. Boo for things that don't photograph well.

You don't have to decide anything if you don't want to. :)

  3. I am chuckling because my immediate thought was: this is a glamorous outfit and perhaps you were heading out to an event. Then I find out the skirt is neoprene and the outfit is for work. Just goes t show how versatile neoprene is! In any case, the outfit looks wonderful and I agree with Polyester Princess, glad that you decided to keep the skirt.

I didn't see the sparkly disco aspect of the jumper but then I didn't look too closely (or click the other links...yet!) Gradually I am weaning/switching my clothing for fabrics that are kinder to aging skin that is dryer, especially in winter. It's my version, this year, of a clothing swap over. ;-)

    1. Ha ha! Nope, you should know by now I wear 95% of my wardrobe to work, Laurie! It's dressy, but I like being extra-dressed up sometimes. Thank you!

I know, it doesn't photograph very well. That sounds like good criteria for keeping things!

  4. I love to wear neoprene. It feels so smooth and it doesn't wrinkle! That's a great plus! I already sorted out my closets. And reorganised them. Now I can see better what I wash by to wear and with what. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. I haven't owned too much neoprene, but I do like how smooth it looks, Nancy. Thanks!

  5. You FOUND that necklace!??! Love it!
I'm intrigued to hear you are 5ft 4!!! I saw you commented on Ann's post about our respective heights and it made me wonder about your height as I imagined you are as tall as me (I am 5ft 8.5"! How funny it is how we think people are in real life!!
The reds and blacks go beautifully together!x

    1. I found the crystal heart, yes (I already owned the silver cord it's on).

I know, isn't it funny, how we get an idea of the size of someone from photos and then see how they contrast with others. We just assume everyone is the same size as us!

      thank you!

  6. That neoprene skirt fits you beautifully - it's a good length and hugs your curves in all the right places!

  7. That skirt really does make you look 6 feet tall! xxx

  8. That fact that glistening ruby red heart pendant was found on the ground and given the most loving of homes with you just makes me adore it all the more.

Just as I adore the bevy of roses (my fave flower) that fills this elegantly beautiful ensemble.

And count me amongst those in the comments who are glad that you opted to keep this terrific skirt. It looks soooo good on you!

    1. I found it right before Karen died, and carried it in my pocket for a while. It broke my heart when I looked at it, but I've started wearing it and I think of her.

Thank you so much - I was always going to keep it, I just wanted to wear it again!

  9. Sometimes I imagine what the outerwear look is like with the Doc Martens you wear to walk in. This seems like it was FIERCE!

    1. It's not really that exciting, but I appreciate the "FIERCE!" comment. :) Thank you!
