Pink, Slippers and a Grey Rescue

Ah, Monday. I found out today that my hours are officially being reduced - as my alternative was lay-off, I'm totally fine with going down to 24 hours a week. I'll be working Monday/Wednesday/Fridays until further notice. As Friday is a stat holiday for Easter, I'll be working this Thursday instead.
So be ready for many more work outfits! I may not have anyone at work to show them to (only 3 of  us today), but I'll still be dressing up.

  • Blouse - Tahari, thrifted; purchased here for $14.95
  • Vest - Pink Martini, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in January for my brother's 50th birthday
  • Trousers - Banana Republic, thrifted; last worn here in August 2019, pattern-mixed with tropical
  • Shoes - Forever 21, consignment; last seen here in September 2019 with tangerine cashmere
  • Coat (below) - Auckie Sanft, vintage 60s, vintage fair; last worn here in March

I had planned to wear this new-to-me stretch silk blouse with the trousers, just the two items together, but had forgotten a few things.
One, this blouse is a snug fit. I bought it with the intention of layering it under dresses. It's a great colour and a lovely cut, otherwise - I love the ruffles around the neckline. I'm wearing a lacy cami under it to keep the cleavage under control.

Two, these windowpane plaid trousers have a very low rise. The combination left me feeling exposed around the middle, and fearful of crack-a-lackin' on the backside (if you know what I mean).
Well, we can't have that, and then I remembered I had this possibly-not-quite-as-ruined-as-I'd exaggerated-said-the-last-time-I-wore-it long knit vest in that exact shade of grey.

So I snatched it back from the giveaway pile, checked for any noticeable snags, and threw it on. Rescued!
It was all so quick (and I was still rather dazed in my early-morning, coffee-less state at this point), that I forgot to put on my bright pink lipstick.

Sunny today, but still frost on the ground! Another wearing of the Fuzzy Flamingo!
And we see the trouble with long pieces like this vest - I don't have a long enough coat to cover it.

It doesn't look too terrible though, does it?
I do get the irony that 95% of the people reading this are in their at-home jammy clothes...

  • Silk scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment

The stuff:
As close to actual slippers as I could get. I love the vibrant colours, and I'm always amazed that these are Forever 21.

Green and blue bling:
I liked the pops of green and blue against the hot pink and the grey.

  • Necklace - Mom's, vintage 70s
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - thrifted

Last night, I caught a picture of Vizzini - he had settled down for a snooze behind my head on the couch.
"You could just let me sleep, Woman."

Aw, where's the fun in that?

I love this picture of him, fully asleep on the deck.
"I'm ignoring you with my eyes closed."

It's still too cold out there, but I opened the doors just a little so he can go out and snooze in the sun.

And so...I'm off tomorrow, but will be back on Wednesday. I hope the early part of your week is going as smoothly as possible!

  1. Such a pretty spring outfit! I laughed out loud when you pointed out your readers are most likely in PJ's! Very close - I'm wearing my painting clothes (I actually was painting today). Vizzini is adorable and very photogenic. Did you make his blanket?

Sorry to hear you are slowing down at work, but I have a feeling you will find lots to keep you occupied.

    Keep well.

    1. Thank you, Nana! I am not quite dressing to my usual dress-up standards, and that is okay, as is what anyone else is wearing!

Yes, I did make Vizzini's blanket, many years ago. Oh, yes, I have lots to do. Thank you!

    1. I did wear this one to work, Becky, but I'm trying to keep myself dressed when I'm at home. Thanks, hon!

  3. I love the pink/grey combo. I am working from home but make a point of dressing properly each day. I find it helps!

    1. Thanks so much, Rebecca! I agree, it really helps me mentally when I'm properly dressed.

  4. Loving that vibrant shade of pink! Rescuing that long knitted waistcoat thingy was the ideal solution for covering that annoying trousers gap. Remember that early 2000s look when it was all low-rise jeans with a lace thong showing? Ugh!
I can't believe those gorgeous mules are Forever 21 either.
Always glad to see the Fuzzy Flamingo and Vizzini's gorgeous snuggly face. xxx

    1. Thank you, Vix! I agree, and I'm not really sure why I pitched a fit and tossed the vest in the first place. OMG, yes, those low-waisted pants were just awful, weren't they? I know, F21 doesn't usually make things this nice (and they are really well-made, shockingly!).

Yay for the FF, and Vizzini knows he is cute. I like that he's down to 3 eyebrows on one side, and one on the other.

  5. Pink and grey - always a great combination. Love the check on the trousers too, Sheila. I get so irritated by finding fab trousers in thrift stores only to discover the dratted low rise curse. So difficult to style with tops. You've solved the problem beautifully here. Commiserations on your reduced hours at work. On a different note, Vizzini looks so cute on that blanket.... It kinda ties with your colours today. Stay well.

    1. I agree, Juliana, such great colours together! Oh, yes, there are a lot of low rises out there in the thrifts. I always have to remember to wear them with something that will cover the waistband.

Ah, it's okay with work, I won't suffer.

      I know, he's so cute, isn't he?

  6. I like pink and grey together and the vest was a nice layering piece! I'm so sorry your hours have been cut, it's good that you are still able to work some days a week though! I only do 3 days a week and it's a good balance I find, keeps me busy but not overly so. I hope you'll like it too, and it's not too much of a hit for you. I know here the government is paying employers for every staff member they keep employed, even if they have no or reduced hours. Sadly a few in my family have to be taking advantage of this offer, when it comes into effect in a few weeks. At the moment I'm still employed, although a large percentage of my current project will be finishing up soon :( Hubby works in the networking side of IT so we expect his work to be stable no matter what happens with mine!

    1. Thanks, Mica! Ah, it's okay with work - at least I wasn't laid off! As I'm planning on going to 4 days a week in a few years, this is a good test to see how it is for me. L and I won't suffer from me working less. I'm glad the Australian gov is taking care of the workers, but it's sad when people take advantage of it.

Happy to hear you and your husband will be okay!

    2. I'm glad to hear it isn't anything that will make things harder for you Sheila, although of course it will be an adjustment! I feel like every week there's something different to get used to, everything is a bit uncertain at the moment. I cried a lot at work (well working from home) today as I bid farewell to people I've known for almost a decade, it's going to be a tough slog to get through this, but we can do it!

    3. I'm actually working/at work more now than I have been the last few weeks - at least I feel useful. Yes, nothing is quite the same, and things keep changing. I miss people! I've also cried a lot lately.

  8. Lovely and delightfully matchy outfit!, I love your windowpane trousers, so classic, and the pink blouse to cheer them up, and love that you recover the crochet vest as it's beautiful! (and useful!). And your shoes totally rock!, love the colors and brocade!. Totally understand the problem with the long pieces, I usually tie up my long vests/cardis to avoid they poke out of my coats, but sometimes I don't care and think they're ok!
I've laughed out loud about the 'crack-a-lackin' danger, ;DD (I hate those low rise trousers, they cause too many problems!)

    1. Thank you, Monica! Yes, I'm glad I rescued the vest from the giveaway - it worked so well with this outfit. Oh, jeez, I had not even thought about tying it up under my coat, what a great idea.

Lol, you get it! These aren't too bad if I'm walking around, but if I bend over, or even sit in my office chair, then...no one needs to see that!

  9. Lovely blouse and pink and grey together are a lovely combination. I loved all your jewellery, too. Those pink mules are the dog's whatsit's! I know exactly what you mean about the crack - a - lackin. I don't wear low rise trousers because of the 'jelly-roll'!

Vizzini looked so cute fast asleep - I expected to see Zs coming out of his nostrils...

    1. Thank you, Vronni! I'm enjoying having my spring/summer accessories back. Ack, yes, the jelly-roll! Guaranteed to make one feel bad about oneself!

Lol, yes, I expected to hear him snoring!

  10. I have no one at work to show my outfits too, as my one and only colleague has to work on different days! But of course, I'm dressing up primarily for myself, and for my blog pals, obviously! Working reduced hours is fine by me. I actually enjoy my time at home, although it still feels weird. That ruffled blouse is gorgeous with the grey, but I'm hearing you on the crack-a-lackin' issue! How I hate that! I wore an old pair of low rise jeans for gardening the other day, and it was driving me crazy. Such a good thing you snatched that vest from the giveaway pile. What were you thinking? And the Fuzzy Flamingo doesn't look bad at all on top of the vest either. The "slippers" and the green and blue jewellery are taking the outfit into another dimension. Aw look at Vizzini snoozing in the sunshine! How I'd like to be a cat sometimes :-) xxx

    1. Aw, that sucks, Ann. All my colleagues who are in the office are men, and they don't give a flying fork about my outfits. It's all for me and my fellow bloggers/readers! I like the reduced hours as well, but we'll see how it goes.

I hate low-rise, and had forgotten that these trousers were lower than what I'm used to. I'm glad I rescued the vest! I don't know what I was thinking - I think I was just rashly angry with myself and the boots for snagging the heck out of it, but it's not really that noticeable.

I know, me too. He looks so happy and serene out there on his blanket.

  11. Look at us! We are wearing similar outfits! Both grey and pink with a ,sort of, vest! How can I not love your outfit!

  12. Vizzini looks so cute in that last shot! He always looks quite snooty (which is what I love about him!) but there, he's full of kitten!
That outfit works so well together and the hanging bit of cardie looks fine below the coat- no problem! Hmmm, hot pink and grey work well together! x

  13. Glad you are still getting some hours at work instead of being laid off. I'm still considered full time, but working from home. The pink is lovely against the light gray, and that long vest needs to go back in your closet. No problem that it peeps out from the bottom of your coat. Such a sweet photo of Vizzini sleeping on the blanket!

  14. I love those pink slipper shoes- so pretty. I also like how you paired a pink top with grey tartan pants and a long grey vest. The long necklace and the earrings are lovely accessories. The vintage coat from the sixties is gorgeous. I do like a pink coat. Very pretty styling.

Those pink slipper-loafers are great, and I'd never have thought of putting blue/green accessories with the pink and grey but it works so well. I'm still dressing up to work from home. It seems to help somehow.
