Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Jersey Girls; Robot Legs; Triple Treat; Leopard Shop

Hello, my friends! I hope you've been having a marvelous weekend! I definitely have, and let's get to it, shall we? They don't call this "bigass" for nothing!

Here's Friday's work and play outfit. I had a super-busy day at work, followed by dinner and theatre.
Channeling the 90s and wearing two things of that era: my regret-me-not black tube dress and the mesh printed top underneath it.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style - she's all about minimalism this week, but I am more of a maximalist. That's cool - it takes all kinds!

  • Top - Topsy Turvey USA, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in December 2018 under a denim dress
  • Dress - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in February on a snow day
  • Shoes - Big Presence Earhart, Fluevog; last seen here in March with spring neon
  • Fur bolero (below) - Bebe, consignment; last worn here in May 2018 when I was Princess Jelly-deer

Cat and I took our moms to see the Broadway production of "Jersey Boys" on Friday night, and did dinner beforehand. We had a great time: the views, the food, the company, the show! I was shocked to realize I knew all of the songs. Happy Birthday, Mom!
Pile on the bling - it's a special occasion!

I'm glad I retrieved this lovely woolly tube dress from the giveaway pile. It's just too beautiful.
Plus, vintage Dolce & Gabbana! It's actually made in Italy!

I love the lingerie straps (fully-adjustable).
That was so outrageous at the time. Bra straps! Ack!

I had to wear my blue fur bolero with this - I was glad of it after the show, as it was chilly out.
 Even a classy purse!

The stuff:
The most comfortable shoe I have that's still a heel. Love the colours/pattern on this pair.

All the green and gold bling:
Actually, I removed one necklace and two bracelets - such restraint!

  • Green glass stone and chain necklace - Mom's, vintage 60s
  • Gold chain - Grandma J's, vintage 80s
  • Gold-tone necklace - Givinchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted - first wearing
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Circle bracelet - Butler Fifth Avenue Collection, consignment
  • Jade/bronze ring - Mom's, vintage 70s
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment

On Saturday, we were one Ulti teammate short, so L and I went for breakfast then bought goodies for our party.
I'm still struggling with the settings for the outside shots - they don't want to focus!

  • Sweater - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Pants - H&M, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in March for Book Club
  • Shoes - Down to Earth Hadfield, Fluevog; last seen here in February with space pants

It was lovely and sunny - such a nice day to be out and about.
It was a little too warm for this 100% merino wool sweater, so it's now in the fall/winter pile.

I do like the shape and fit of it - it's oversized in the body, lower in the back, but snug in the arms.
Robot legs! Comfy and shiny - I have it all.

The stuff:
I often wear this scarf when I wear these shoes. I like how they both have pink and orange together.

  • Scarf - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Earrings - vintage fair

L's birthday is tomorrow, and we threw his party on Saturday night. We had close to 30 people, with oodles of libations and food, dancing and good times. We shut 'er down at 3:30am.

Now - let's see how well you guys know me. I had some time in the afternoon before the party, so I "test drove" my outfit options for the night to help me decide what to wear. I took pictures of all three outfits. I'll reveal the answer after these three pictures.

Will it be...

Coral Red Disco?
This is a new-to-me gown in a deep and rich coral red, accessorized with snake jewelry and other shiny gold pieces, and platform sandals. Also, I am rockin' the side-pony.

  • Dress - BCBG Max Azria, thrifted; purchased here for $39.99

Lame (Lah-MAY!) and Leather?
The recently-gifted-to-me Stephen Burrows "dress" from the 70s from Wendy Brandes? I'm wearing my London booties, claw cuff and some of the other same gold bits. The plan was to do the hair down for this.

  • Tunic - Stephen Burrows, vintage 70s, gift from Wendy Brandes; received here
  • Leather pants - Classique Entier, vintage 80s, thrifted; first worn here in April with dots
  • Boots - London; last seen here in March with plaid and green

Jivin' Jumpsuit?
Same gold disco accessories plus my Mom's vintage belt, rust platforms. I could dance the night away in this!

  • Jumpsuit - Second Round, vintage 70s, gift from Wendy Brandes - received here
  • Shoes - Chie Mihara; last worn here in May with teal and plaid

Let's pause for a moment to contemplate. What did I wear, Vizzini?
"Something stupid, no doubt."

Sunny kitty doesn't care. He hid for most of the party, then came out late to hoover up all the crumbs.

Answer: I wore all of them!

I started with the coral red outfit and wore it from 8pm (when the first guest arrived) to 10pm, when the party was in full swing.
This was amazing to wear! I swanned about majestically, and bragged about paying $30 for it.

The one shoulder and the very thin fabric (the dress is fully-lined) means that everything shows. I did some strategic adjustments to my strapless bra by adding a single strap and then a connector from the other boob to my shoulder. Nice and secure!

I also realized that I had to make sure I adjusted the bottom half lining better.
I do like showing off all my ink - I don't get to show it all that often.

I had initially thought it would be too hot to wear this outfit - we are pretty much done with "leather weather" and it was a warm day. Our condo gets the sun until it sets, which is nice unless you have 30 people in your house sweating!
Fortunately it stayed cool and I was able to wear this from 10pm to midnight. The bra adjustments paid off well with this outfit.

I also added the same gold belt from the first outfit, roping it around the top of the high-waisted leather pants, with the fob hanging out on the tunic's slit. I kept the snake necklace on from the first look, but took the claw cuff off.

I unleashed my hair and shook it out, very Debbie Harry!
And I switched out the boots to the same black/silver platform sandals as with the red dress. Much more comfy.

At midnight, I changed into the jumpsuit! The leather pants are badass but hard to sit in, and I wanted to do some dancing!
"Wait, people are coming over?"

Unzipping the front of it and showing some cleavage (French accent!) was key to this being a sexy 70s party look. I changed to a push-up bra for this.

I ended up kicking off the shoes around 2am.
"I am so going to ambush the cured meats."

We kept a very close eye on the party food. He's been known to run off with a chunk of salmon or a piece of pepperoni.

This jumpsuit was so much fun to wear.
"I should be in this picture."

My friends were delighted with each outfit change. I had all these great potential outfits, and it'll take me forever to wear them for 3 separate occasions. Why not wear them all in one night?

Life is short! Wear them all!
"No food, no petting."

I had a blast getting my creative on for the evening.

The stuff:
In order to make my outfit changes go quickly, I mostly wore the same jewelry every time. I started with the highest heels for the first two outfits as well.

The all-gold bling:
I have to thank Jess at Dreaming of Vintage Treasures (link here, go check out this amazing woman, she is just lovely) who shares my fondness for snake jewelry and showed her snake necklace here. I thought I would try my belt as a necklace after seeing hers, and I loved it that way. Thank goodness for our circle of bloggers! So inspiring!

  • Snake belt/necklace - vintage expo
  • Snake bracelet - Whiting & Davis, vintage 70s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Ring - c. 1997
  • Belt - thrifted

For the final outfit, I changed up the shoes to these "flat-forms".
And swapped out the gold belt.

This gold and white belt is one of Mom's.
I gave it away about 14 years ago, to my dear Caro, who wore it for a while and then returned it to me several years later (maybe 5 years ago?). I love how things go around.

Today, L and I slept in, and then I went to town to get groceries, and to do some shopping for L's birthday gifts.
I've been so busy, I totally gapped on shopping for him. Oops!

  • Dress - Michael Kors, consignment; last seen here in October 2018, purchased and worn in the same weekend for a trip to Vancouver
  • Shoes - Softmocs, thrifted; purchased here for $19.95

It started out very sunny and warm, then turned windy.
I was glad I'd worn long sleeves.

I love "jammy" dresses like this one for chill weekends.
It was great for trying stuff on. Because did I shop for myself while I shopped for L? Maybe...

The stuff:
First wearing of these new-to-me leather sandals and they get an A from me. No rubbing, very comfy. My feet are tired after 4 hours of shopping, but I've had a tiring feet kind of weekend!

  • Gold hoops - 5th anniversary gift from L

I found this fabulous navy and hot pink bomber jacket at the Patch.
I don't think it's been worn - the pockets (pockets!) are still stitched shut.

I don't know this brand: Le Tigre.
I thought $24.95 seemed pretty good - check out that hot pink key pattern.

These striped pants caught my eye.
 And they are flares!

I was a bit dubious about them being pull-on. However, they looked great on. All is forgiven when clothing looks great.
They're by INC International Concepts, a department store brand here (the Bay has carried this brand for more than 10 years).

These were $24.95, and are new with tags on!
And that wee white tag says SP17, so Spring 2017. I guess that was a bit too early for flares to be on our minds - but two years later, and I'm in the "yes" camp.

I fell hard for this glorious riot of colour.
Chrysanthemums! In red and pink and orange, and yellow and black and green. Lovely pleats for some swoosh. No pockets, though.

This skirt is by Talbots and is another "new with tags" find.
This one started out at $118.00, was marked down to $69.00, then $49.00, then it has a 75% off stamp. I paid $22.95 - the skirt is 100% silk with a polyester lining, although the Patch notes that the lining is silk. No, that is incorrect.

At the WIN store, I was happy to see that a scarf I'd eyed last time I was there...was still there.
My foot in my "CATS" sock is in there for scale. Giant leopard scarf alert!

Look at that face! Big kitty!
Another new item found in the thrift store - this is by Amore Sayulita. Actually, I can't find anything about this as a brand, but Sayulita is a resort in Mexico. It's quite possible this was a vacation souvenir. Anyway, it was $1.95 - I had to have it!

I gasped when I saw this cobalt blue leather bag. Danier!
It even still had the flannel bag that it would have been wrapped in when purchased!

It's beautifully made - it's all leather. Danier's bags run about $200 new. This one has pebbled leather and originally had a matching tassel in blue leather on the side.
This was $36.95 as there is apparently a small stain somewhere. I examined it inside and out and couldn't find anything.

Lovely hardware.
I like the attachment on the side. Solid.

Little lettered buttons in the leather strap at the top of the chain.
 It's a good size bag - and I love that it's cross-body.

Lots of room in there! All leather trim on everything.
I was thrilled with my finds, and found a bunch of cool things for L too.

And then I came home and found Vizzini snoozing.
"More of this? Really?"

He's been loving the warm weather.
"Okay, just a few scritches."

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I'm off to spend some quiet time on the couch! Phew! I need another weekend to recover!

  1. Happy Birthday to L!
I love that you wore all three outfits to the party, you're right, life is short wear the clothes! All three look utterly spectacular.
How cool is the top you're wearing under the D&G dress? Very! I think you need another trip to Italy and wear that dress with nothing underneath and recreate a Dolce and Gabanna advert!
Vizzini looks magnificently regal on his perch! xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix! Exactly! I had these outfits ready, and there was the opportunity!

Ooh, very sexy! I have never worn it solo.

      Vizzini rules the roost.

  2. Happy Birthday to your Mom and to L! I took my Mom to see Jersey Boys in celebration of her 80th birthday back in the early 2000s. Quite enjoyed knowing you and your Mom went, and I bet there was some silent singing along!

As for the triple crown dancing gowns, for dancing comfort I’d definitely figure on the jumpsuit. All three outfits make their own statements, and I was hard pressed to figure which you would have worn!

Thank you for sharing your weekend update, am vicariously enjoying the energy and fun. :)

    1. Thanks, Laurie! Mom's b-day was in May, but this was part of her present. That's so cool - we've both done that! There was some LOUD singing going on (at least from the dude next to me!).

They were all fun to wear, and I loved surprising our guests!

  3. Happy bithday to your mum and L - what a fun party! I lvoe that you changed outfits through the night, it's so true, we should wear what makes us happy and it's good you took the chance to wear a lot of different things!

I love the scarf you bought too, and that cobalt bag is so cute! A cobalt bag is on my wishlist but I've not found the perfect one yet!

  5. "At midnight, I changed into the jumpsuit" is not a sentence I often hear, but it's fabulous. I love all your party looks and your cool hairdo too. Happy birthday to your mom and L! xox

  6. Whatever made you put that D&G black tube dress in the giveaway pile? I'm so glad you gave it another go. It's looking particularly lovely with that colourful top, blue fur bolero and classy handbag, which gave me handbag envy! As for your party outfit (happy birthday to L, by the way!), it was a toss-up between that fabulous coral gown and the jumpsuit, but it didn't in the least surprise me that you wore all three! I'm so going to do that next time we throw a party! Love that amazing bomber jacket and gorgeous floral skirt you found! Have a great week, Sheila! xxx

    1. Oh, Ann, I am so silly sometimes. It's a little bit worn (balled/pilled) and I was being ruthless! I felt very classy in it for the theatre.

Thank you so much - the coral-red gown is really a stunner. I need to wear that again!

I'd love to see the multiple outfits for your next party - go for it!

      Happy week, my dear!

  7. That was a weekend and a half! Of course you need another to get over that one!

Fabulous outfits and how clever to wear three in one evening! They all looked fabulous as well and what brilliant bling and accessories. I think we should reintroduce the 'dressing for dinner' custom and we'll wear two outfits per day...on second thoughts, no. Not good for the planet, ultimately.

Happy birthday to L and to your mum. An expensive month for you, I think!

Loved all your purchases but the chrysanthemum skirt is my favourite - shame it has no pockets. We want more pockets, manufacturers/designers - are you listening?

Hope you have a great week.
    xx

I totally agree - more pockets!

      Happy week to you!

  9. What busy weekends you have. All your outfits were fabulous. Just an FYI Sayullita is a charming fishing village and a surfer's paradise. Wonderful restaurants, great food and a quiet relaxed town about 30 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. Amore Sayulita is a shop in the town.

  10. Hi Shiela, your Broadway night out with your friend and mum sounds lovely. And your pink and orange shoes are just fabulous. I never used to be one for pointy toed shoes, but you’ve converted me!

You wore all the dresses?! Of course, why ever not? They all look great and as you said, life is short, go for it.

Awww, thank you so much for mentioning me! You inspire me all the time and I’m thankful to have joined the circle of bloggers after reading vintage blogs for so many years. X

  11. 'Bra straps Ack' made me laugh - to this day I can't do visible underwear, even though other people are fine with it. (And I'm fine with other people choosing it, but I have a mental block to going out like it myself.)

Also I love that you wore ALL the outfits. Why settle for one fabulous look when you can have them all?
