Spring Velvet and Vest

This outfit feels like a flashback to me - I have worn very similar looks over the life of my blog. Can you believe I'm coming up on 10 years of blogging? Only 2 weeks away! Enjoy my very first outfit post here.
I've been toying with the idea of doing some sort of post(s) for my 10 year blogoversary - what would you guys like to see? I'm open to any kind of suggestions (of course, since it's my blog I'll pick and choose, ha!).

  • Blouse - Free People, thrifted; last seen here with acid yellow in December 2017
  • Vest - Gap, thrifted; first worn here in January with blah burgundies
  • Skirt - Rive Gauche, Yves Saint Laurent, vintage, thrifted; last seen here in January with plummy florals
  • Boots - Indigo; last worn here (5th outfit) in a fabulously crazy outfit in December 2017
  • Tentacle coat (below) - Prosper & Devine, antique shop; last seen here in December 2017

Spring is nearly here! I'm champing at the bit to get to my spring stuff, but I'm reminding myself that I still have great fall/winter pieces that I want to wear again.

Although I love all the pieces in this outfit, overall it felt a little "meh" to me. I'm not sure that I'm totally feeling the vest.

I love the sheer blouse - it's a good mix and match piece. Sheer + ragged edges + ruffles = win.
And the skirt continues to be awesome. Vintage YSL, velvet and big pockets?? Yup, all day.

Outerwear - I continue to both horrify and delight people with this pink suede jacket.
No one is ever "meh" about this coat.

  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
I love these boots. They get better every time I wear them.

Pastel bling:
First wearing of these new-to-me earrings. Grade: A! Not too heavy, not to long, nice movement.

  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - thrifted

    1. I better start a list! It will definitely be hard to choose! Great idea.

  2. Gerrilyn, I was thinking the same thing. Sheila, maybe with each based on some category such as an unexpected thrift, favorite color combo, something that was outside your comfort zone but now is a go to formula ... Something along those lines if it is not too much work. I know whatever you do I will find it fascinating and informative.

  3. Wow! Ten years is such a huge achievement, Sheila! It was so fun to see your first outfit post! I'd love to see some of your fave posts from the last ten years to celebrate your blogoversary! Maybe your most worn pieces or top ten from each year or sorted by colour or ?? I know you will come up with something fabulous, as always! Maybe Vizzini can help you? ;) XXX

    1. It feels like so long ago, Sasha! I'm certainly going to try to do as much as I can - I think 'most worn' would be tricky, but I do have a lot of old stuff that I've had for nearly the entire length of my blog. Vizzini (and both our previous cats) have always helped!

  4. 10 years of blogging is so impressive, and an awesome achievement Sheila! I'd say you could look back on your favourite outfits that made you smile but you make sure to only keep and wear pieces you love so that would be a tricky task to narrow down to your top 10!

Whatever you do, I hope you celebrate the occasion by doing something for yourself too, it requires a lot of dedication and you sharing your style and tips is so appreciate, you deserve to treat yourself!

  6. Wow, 10 years, that's so impressive, Sheila. It would be fun to see your favourite outfits of each year, telling us why you chose them, the memories connected to them, if you still have/wear the clothes, and so on. I'm sure you will be come up with a suitable way to celebrate! It's good to see the pink suede jacket again, and those boots really do look awesome. Glad to see your latest earrings making an appearance, too! xxx

    1. Oh, I'm warming up for a lot of good rambles, Ann - I have a year to do all these.

I love this jacket - if it had pockets I'd wear it more.

  7. Love your boots however do agree on the 'meh' of the outfit. You look great in everything but I think the lack of 1. contrast and 2. colour = 'meh' - at least for you. I am a newbie to you blog and am currently going backwards and am at June 2016. I anticipate your current posts and then binge into your history. So much fun. I am now seeking more colour in my 'new to me' shopping experiences and particularly love your cost per wear calculations which help me purge my 'meh' items. Nothing like hanging onto great buys that don't fit or feel right. You have give me great inspiration to shop more and get rid of what does not work. Thank you - thank you.

    1. Robyn, what a nice comment - thank you! Yes, it's not a high contrast outfit, you're right - it feels under-accessorized to me too. That is so cool you've been reading backwards! I always remind myself that I don't have to keep everything - I paid less than a glass of wine for some of my clothes, and it's okay to let them go. Thank you again!

  11. Love the reference to a glass of wine. I think I will use that as my new monetary system. Is this worth 1 glass of wine or 2? Would I wear this 3 glasses of wine? Or should I just bypass and go for the wine? Being silly.....

  12. I do love a waistcoat and yours is fab, a perfect fit. What a shame that you aren't feeling it.
You must have started blogging a year before me. It's crazy to think we've shared our wardrobes on-line for so long, isn't it? I look back at posts and am amazed I've had things as long as I have - sometimes I'm sure I only bought them a couple of years ago when it turns out it's more like eight! xxx
