Monochromania! With a Twist of Orange

Monochromania - it's where it's at! Have you tried it yet? Go on, you can do it! Send me an email (it's in my profile) with your picture, or a link to your blog post - I'll be doing a round-up this Sunday!

I had another monochromatic colour picked for today: grey. However, when I picked my outfits last weekend (because I find it soothing to make outfits in my closet), I made a layer-heavy grey outfit that relied on boots. Yeah. And no. It's too damned hot for boots.

So: orange you glad I picked orange?
I don't actually try to match my shades - I just put together different shades of the same colour and trust that they will probably go. I knew this top and bottom would work together because I actually have worn them together before here (2nd outfit), back in May 2012 - I even wore the same belt!

I got a few compliments on the top today. I do love a good cowl neck, but they are so hard to find! Why is that? I last wore this top here with my tiki skirt in June. I sweated in it like crazy today, walking to work, walking to another WW meeting (I'm filling in for another leader on vacation), then walking home. Gah. Good thing it's washable!
The skirt is my wondrous orange wool/silk tweed, last seen here in August with blue satin (and a shark!).
I know, the shoes have yellow, but they look orange from the front!

The stuff:
Say goodbye to the nice orange and yellow shoes - they are going in the donate pile. They aren't that comfortable, the heel isn't balanced well and they rubbed my toes. Ah well, I have pictures of them if I miss them. I last wore them here in July while making my own sunshine. And gee, I guess I'll have to look for another pair of orange shoes. Golly, what a chore, hee hee.

Shiny bling:
If it's an orange outfit, it's got to be copper!

Top (Michael Kors, consignment), skirt (Talbot's, consignment), shoes (Portia), belt (Club Monaco), copper cuff/earrings (Judith Hirczy), spinner ring (Twang & Pearl), floral ring (Sarah Coventry, vintage).

  1. It's like a secret pop of yellow! It still works! Draws attention to their awesomeness!

  3. "I find it soothing to make outfits in my closet" - I pointed at the screen and exclaimed "Yes! This!"

I feel that cowl necks were the thing about 13-15 years ago, and lately the rage is those boxy dolman sleeve tops. I should like them because I am broad through the ribs and shoulders, but most of them look slovenly to me.

  4. A similar silhouette to the blue outfit, yet the feel is so different! Bright and breezy, beautiful shades of orangs (I love orange). Shame about the shoes, they look wonderful, but hey, shoes have to be functional for us walk-everywhere gals.
Have a great weekend, Sheila, Xxxx

  5. I love your orange outfit! That top is beautiful :) I find cowl necks really flattering, although I also don't have many pieces like that left in my wardrobe now.

Shame about the shoes, but if they are not comfortable, better to make space for ones that are! :)

  7. So autumny even if it's hot!! Which you certainly look--HOT as in fabulous!!
    I love this!!
You are so right about cowl necks--where are they?? Easy cowl neck drape trick--i have one from lane bryant that lays so fabulously because there is a little washer sewn in a pouch attached to it at the low point in front. It hangs inside (not seen) but makes the cowl drape fantastically. Definitely going to try this trick with other cowls that won't hang right(when I find them!)

Shame about the shoes--they are awesome but if they hurt.....

  12. Love the little kick pleats in the skirt. I, too, love cowl necklines and would love to find more.
