Apr 23rd - Outfit #18 - Spring Floral

After all the crazy outfits of this past weekend, today's felt positively tame.
I wanted to wear this skirt again because...I think I'm going to give it up. I've gotten lots of wear out of it, but it feels very short to me. I'll always have the pictures if I miss it - including here, the last time I wore it.

I love this yellow cardi, however (last worn here).
I'm kind of cheating with the top underneath it - it's not a camisole, but a knit top. But it fits in my "rules": I never wear it on its own, always as a layering piece.

The shoes were just "meh." Last wore them here.

The stuff:
I couldn't entirely let go of the steampunk: my leather cuff, leather wrap and my octopus necklace are my little surreptitious steam accessories. Hee.

Cardigan (Club Monaco, consignment), knit top (Planet), skirt (Le Chateau), shoes (Feet First, thrifted), leather cuff (Guess, thrifted), wrist-wrap (Club Monaco), necklace (Raven's Rest Studio).

  1. I really like the little accessories touches with this outfit :) So sad to see the skirt go as it's beautiful but I know you will replace it with another skirt just as awesome :)

  2. That skirt does seem a wee bit shorter than what you usually wear. I'd probably only wear it with tights so I'd feel more covered up. It's a very funky print.

  3. It's a beautiful skirt. Are you sure about letting it go?
True, it's on the shortish side, but you can always layer it over another one. Besides, on a hot summer day the perception of short/long is quite different.

    1. Yeah, I think so, Victoria. It's got a lining with a netting ruffle under it, so it doesn't layer well. The netting is quite prickly on my legs so I tend not to wear it in hot weather.

  4. Love the "surreptitious" steampunk! The skirt is so lovely but you know what you know about clothing -- gotta *love* it.

  5. Sometimes it's good to send clothes on down the line to make room for new ones! I'm sure you'll find a new pretty one to replace this one!

  6. I love that skirt.... but i totally get you.
Not only does it have to look good but FEEL good - and if you feel its too short, well, you are probably not tht comfortable wearing it.

  7. Sheila, I dunno if you follow Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen, but your skirt looks very similar to the one she posted about giving up last week :o

I think that skirt is beautiful on you; have you tried it with an underskirt or petticoat? (Can't believe I'm suggesting this; would never have occurred to me a year ago...lol).

I have a lot of those camis I never wear alone to work, but that make great layering pieces.

    1. Hi, Lynne, no I don't follow her - I'll have to go look, thanks!

As I said to Victoria above, the skirt's lining has a big netting ruffle under it, so it doesn't work well for layering. I don't want to remove the lining, and the skirt feels too short for most of my under-layering pieces. Thanks so much for the creative suggestion!

  8. Isn't it strange when you realize a skirt is too short? It makes me wonder why I didn't notice before...
That one has served you well. It's had a good run!

  9. Just found your blog and you are the color girl. I am sad that this skirt feels too short because all the colors in this outfit are sublime on you. But I have also passed off skirts or dresses that just felt too short, hope you find a replacement for it.
