Casual Friday - A Stab at Steampunk

Casual Friday is such a fun way for me to push my look a little further. Unfortunately, it was far too chilly today to wear what I'd originally planned, which was much more summery but also with a maxi skirt, coincidentally.

I felt great in today's outfit, even though it was thrown together pretty quickly this morning:I love that maxi skirts are in style right now - it gives me an excuse to pull out this awesome skirt again (last seen here).

The jacket is so cute - love the back:
Someone at work actually came up and touched it. I love the equestrian vibe of it. I last wore it here, but today is actually the same way as I first wore it here. I definitely like it best worn with a belt.

I wasn't really thinking of steampunk when I put this outfit together, but the wide belt and the sort of Victoria-era look of the shapes seemed to work right with that aesthetic.

*sigh* I thought I was done with boots and had to haul these out from the bag for the cobbler to wear in the rain today:
I'm wearing knee-high socks, but I've got bare legs!

The stuff:
My trusty boots, all buckle-y goodness and such. I liked the pearls, but I would have preferred a more steampunk type of necklace, maybe one of Grandma J's instead.

A close up:
This is my new snake ring - it goes across three fingers! It was a little tricky for typing all day, but not too bad for mousing. The other ring is another groovy Club Monaco sale accessory. It's like a bent brass nail.

Jacket (Armor Jeans, thrifted), lace blouse (Noa Noa), cami (InWear), skirt (InWear, thrifted), boots (Miz Mooz), necklace (Aldo Accessories), snake ring (local boutique), nail ring (Club Monaco).

  1. What an interesting ring. The cut of the jacket and the skirt definitely DO give this look a steampunk vibe. And those bare legs ARE progress even if you had to haul the boots out.

  2. The silhouette on this is Fierce. The blazer is a great shape/color. Serious ring-lust over the snakey one.

  3. I think all your outfits are amazing! And though I usually like your wilder "rock" looks, I think that you're naturally elegant in all "feminine" styles too... I love this one!! Love it! And I love the snake ring... (note to self : I have to learn how to make cool things like that!! ) Kisses and hugs :)

  4. I love the cut of that jacket. This would have looked really cute with some Victorian inspired boots too. I keep hoping to be done with my boots too. On Wednesday I work a slim sweatshirt skinny jeans and maryjane style pumps with socks, there's desperation for other shoes and to keep warm. I did like looking down at those shoes all day though, they are absolutely the perfect almond, roundish toe ever. I still can't believe I got them for $4.75. Leather and super comfy!

Megan, thank you, hon! The ring was from the same shop as your skirt.

Dimi, thank you! I like a lot of different styles, actually.

Thanks, Alison! I thought about my Fluevog Libby Smiths, but it was raining, so went with the boots that could handle it and not get ruined. Your shoes sound great!

  11. I think you would look great in a side-saddle... this outfit is very reminiscent of a Victorian riding habit. Just needs the jaunty little hat!

  12. 'Doll, I was totally tempted by a hat, but I thought it would be too costumey for work.
