Half-Tucked Velvet, Hematite Ropes and Studded Tweed

I was surprised at lunch today by...L! He took me out to lunch - what a lovely break in my day.
He got to admire my outfit in person (he catches up on my posts a week later), as did a little furry someone while I was taking pics.

  • Velvet shirt - J. Jill, thrifted; purchased here for $19.95
  • Tweed wool skirt - Miu Miu, consignment; last worn here in November 2022 with yellow leather
  • Shoes - Classy Nora, Fluevog; last seen here in November 2023 with bell-bottom cords
  • Down-filled puffer coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last worn here in December 2023

I wore my new-to-me J. Jill velvet shirt today - it's so long I had to tuck half of it in.
"You should stay home."

It was lovely to wear - very soft. Colleague Ngoc admired the fabric and petted my arm.

Doing a half-tuck allowed my studded tweed skirt to show.
"No one cares. Pet meeeeeee...."

I was a little worried about Velvet Rage, but I picked my outerwear carefully.
Nylon and velvet work well together, and I was snuggly and warm, although I got rather wet on the way home. Ah well, it is the rainy season.

Accoutrements:
My grey "set."

  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Hat - M&S, consignment, Powell River
  • Gloves - fair trade

The stuff:
These shoes are so cool - love that toe and heel.

Hematite bling:
Ropes and ropes of hematite, or Alaska black diamond, although it's neither black nor a diamond - it's actually a metal ore. Did you know that marcasite (tiny sparkly grey stones often added to elaborate settings) is actually hematite? And that it's the only metal ore worn as jewelry? Me neither! Read about it here, link 'cause I love.

  • Hematite bracelets and necklaces - variously acquired at vintage fairs and thrift shops, with one from Mom (the graduated size rope)
  • Earrings - c. 1996
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Volcano ring - vintage 70s, Mom's

I finally gave in and grabbed Vizzini, my little photo-bomber.
"That's more like it."

No Mom-Day tomorrow - Mom picked up a bug from all her socializing over the holidays, so she's resting. Thank you all for your good vibes! She's self-medicating with chocolate, hee hee.
