As you might have surmised, there was no Mom-Day yet again today due to yet more snow. I miss you, Mom!
It snowed lightly all day, although the temps dropped enough that big sheets of snow were overhanging the eaves and plopping off periodically.
Views from our deck of the white-clad Garry Oaks.
I'd considered going for a wee shop, but...nahhhhhh...staying home called to me much more!

Just a glimpse of the Castle through the screen - brrr, the thought of opening a window makes me shiver.
More fingers of snow creeping off the roof.

I wandered around the house wondering what I should do with my day. I poked around in our costume trunk for ideas for a big event coming up, poked at Vizzini (not happy with me), had lunch and then thought, "Hey, I should work on L's jacket!"
And so I did!
Art Project: L's Blue Oyster Cult Jacket
I actually did some work on the right sleeve in between today and back here in October 2023, but apparently I whiffed on taking pictures of it.
This is where I last left off - with the completed left sleeve. I have now (maybe) finished the right sleeve.

But first, I have to set myself up with a cozy work spot. I dragged the chair over near the window, added a footstool and my electric throw, and set the light table there for phone, tea and pens.
You can see a bit of my previous work on the stretched-out sleeve. It's a sword with "word scrolls" - more Blue Oyster Cult lyrics!
This was my view when I looked up.
Eventually there was a cat there.
I worked for around 2.5 hours. I'd put in the same amount on the non-photographed work, sketching it out and getting the colour on the sword, and roughing in the lettering, which had only been lightly penned on.
I did the same font as the other sleeve, and echoed its "object plus lyrics" so that the jacket stays visually balanced. It says, "Lightning bolts become my swords," a lyric from the song "I Am the Storm."Of course, I had to draw a sword! I looked through a few reference books we had lying around and pulled parts from a few medieval blades to create a cool-looking blade.
The pommel is decorated with the BOC symbol, and I put a lightning bolt on the grip.

Shading to make the blade look like it look like it has a fuller, that groove down the centre.
As with the other sleeve, I might do some back-shading when I'm done - I'll likely do a bunch of futzing to get it just right.

And here we are - I still have the front to do!
And here's the back, which I haven't photographed as a whole yet - this is courtesy of my phone, which is much sharper than the camera.
L's getting excited - and now that the NFL season is nearing its end, I'll have more weekend time to work on this. Soon, love! It doesn't seem like too much, but you know I love detail and I see lots of space.
Did I mention a cat? Someone hid under the covers with George all day, only coming out to demand food.
Very sensible, buddy!
It's supposed to start raining soon with warmer temps (still single digit) in the forecast, so I hope the snow all melts for the weekend.
I'm signing out now, my friends - we have a few events this weekend, so I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure. Take care, stay warm (or cool if you're down under), and thanks so much for stopping by!
You are amazing, Sheila! I love seeing your works in progress -- thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented, amazing work. Lise
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a project on a horrible snowy day! L's jacket is looking incredible, you are so talented. Vizzini's got the right idea. It's -4°C at the moment and William's just rushed out to do his business, I don't suspect he'll be out for long!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful (and warm) weekend, dear Sheila! xxx
We actually woke up to a thin layer of snow this morning and thanked my lucky stars I didn't have to go out in it first thing! I'm currently gearing myself up to nip out into the garden and take some photos ... but first things first: need to catch up with Blogland :-)
ReplyDeleteWorking on L.'s Blue Oyster Cult jacket sounds like just the thing for a day like this. It's going to look spectacular! Don't tell L., but I only know one song by them (Don't Fear the Reaper) which worms its way into my head every time you're showing us your progress on the jacket!
Have a fab weekend, Sheila! xxx
Everyone knows that song, Ann - sorry for the earworm! <3
DeleteWonderful to be reminded of L’s jacket and the work you have already done; am looking forward to seeing the front as you work your way towards completion! There’s much to be said for occasional weather days that speak of staying home. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Helen! Here’s to warmer temps down the pike and a return to Mom-Daughter Adventures. ❤️
Cheers, Laurie
Ah, this is looking SO good! You are clever!!! How many hours have you spent on it so far? Can't wait to see L model it!x
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh, maybe about 15-20 hours so far, Kezzie.
DeleteWow, look at that snow!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were a clothing artist. Looks great! X
Your clothing art always blows me away. I'm sure L will love it. It's a great jacket and you're making it a piece of art.
