Weekend Wrap-Up: Purple and Leopard Brunch, and a 10-Minute Shop

Welcome back, Gentle Readers! It's been a very chill and quiet weekend over here (lots of football-watching going on, leading up to the playoffs), with just a quick brunch out on Saturday, and my usual "you have until we're seated" mad browse through the thrift store (yielding a spectacular find).

Here's my brunch outfit, featuring nothing new, all shopped from my closet.
Purple and leopard always lift my spirits, and as you can see, we had a lovely sunny day.

  • Turtleneck - Gilmour, consignment; last seen here in March 2023 with red and brown velvet
  • Bubble top - Zara, thrifted; last worn here in February 2023 for a Mom-Day looking at gravemarkers
  • Denim skirt - Ganni, consignment; last seen here in October 2023 for our trip to Seattle
  • Boots - Original Samedi, Fluevog; last worn here in November 2023 with a black dress for a jab and theatre
  • Sweetums cape (below) - vintage 70s, consignment; last seen here in December 2023

My view of the Castle was still a little gloomy.
It's a brisk but clear winter day.

What can I wear that's warm? I wasn't fooled by that sunshine!
This thick denim skirt hasn't been worn yet this season, so I layered another leopard bit on top (the barely visible turtleneck), and some thick tights.

This "bubble" top is oversized but snuggly warm.
I tucked it into the paper-bag waist of the skirt. If you look carefully, you can see my belt and the "lion rampant" buckle.

The purple boots don't match, but I really don't care.
Remember, "It doesn't have to match - it just has to go."

Sleeves shoved up and hands in pockets.
I was only briefly un-caped while we were having our brunch.

Mostly I was fully-caped and Incognito.
The lady at the Beacon Avenue Thrift Shop recognizes me now ("look at you!"), and checks out my outfit.

"It's all second-hand, except for the boots," I said.
My iPhone fits perfectly in the pocket, with my glasses/sunnies in the other.

Accoutrements:
More non-matching purples.

  • Leather purse - Danier, thrifted
  • Suede gloves - vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
Great Grape Galoshes! (okay, they are not galoshes, but I was on a G run).

Brassy bling:
The belt is one of my treasures - I found it at a vintage fair many years ago for around $25.00.

  • Belt - Pringle of Scotland, vintage fair
  • Black cuff - consignment
  • Eelskin/gold bangle - fake Gucci, Italy, gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1986
  • Brass rings - both vintage 70s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted

I had less than 10 minutes in the thrift shop, but with a glance through the menswear this beauty couldn't help but leapt out at me.
WOW. That's a stunner! I quickly texted a pic of it to L in line and asked if he wanted it. "YES."

Look at this gorgeous embroidery/sequin work! It's on a dark blue velvet background.
I've circled where the button is missing on the front - the loop of thread is still there, so the button likely broke.

No "where it's made" label anywhere, which is odd - isn't that required?
The RN number tells me (link here, if you are interested) it's made for Klotho Inc., which is the parent company of the label.

...Which is Giovanni Testi, and hey, there's a bag of spare buttons in the inside pocket. Nice!
There are two inside pockets, plus two on the front and one handkerchief pocket near the lapel.

This was NOT $45.00 - it was $22.50 as all women's blazers were half price - they gave me the discount, so I guess I am a regular now. I found this on the company website here (all links 'cause I love) - it retails for $279.99 USD, but comes with matching pants! I wish the pants had been there!
It's a little large on L, and a teeny bit short in the sleeves, but good enough for a party or two. There's some snagging on the inside of the sleeves/body where they've rubbed/snagged (easily trimmed up with sharp scissors). I bet it was worn for one party and then donated. Based on how this snagged on itself, maybe the pants were ruined in the crotchal region after one wearing - it's not the most practical fabric! Good for standing around in only!

Vizzini, are you ready to come cuddle with me and L while we watch football?
"No way, Woman, George is keeping me snug as a bug in a rug."

Suit yourself, bud.

L and I hung out and played boardgames all weekend, staying cozy inside. I did enjoy that sunshine on my face, though.
Ah, wake me up when it's spring!

Off to watch more football, possibly with a furry boy stretched out on me. I hope you all had a lovely weekend! Thank you for stopping in!

  1. I like the purple and leopard together and that blazer was an incredible find! It's so good it comes with spare buttons to replace the missing one too! Definitely a lucky find!

  2. I love that photo of you basking in the Winter sunshine!
Oh yeah, I don't fret about things not matching either, and those boots look perfect with with the bubbly jumper.
That jacket couldn't be more L, it was made for him.
William says hello to Vizzini, he's had to put up with a man servicing the boiler this morning and supervised him throughout. xxx

  3. Ah sunshine, and triple ah for your outfit! Not being much of a leopard print fan, this outfit nudged me closer to thinking leopard could be okay. :) Bookended with the purples made for a friendly leopard and the combo looks so comfortable and flattering.

Much to be said for calm weekends and snuggling, and of course Vizzini was thrilled, despite his comment about George. ;)

By the way, each time you wear one of your colorful tall low-heeled Fluevog boots I start wondering in earnest if a pair could be in my future. The soles look comfortably padded, the height is fine, and I think the toe width is okay…my toes need space! Next time I’m in the vicinity of one of their stores I will step in and try on!
    Cheers, Laurie

  4. Your purple and leopard outfit is a stunner, especially with the addition of the Sweetums cape!
And talking about stunning: how fabulous is that blazer! Lucky L. having a personal shopper :-)
Thank you for your advice on the Blogger comment problem. I'm going to try and have a look at it when I'm at home. Sneakily commenting from the office here :-) xxx

  5. What an uplifting photo that is of you basking in the winter sun. Bleached out and rocking purple and leopard print - it could be an album cover! Roll on spring!

  6. I love your bubble top. To me it looks purple on that sunny photo so I'd say it matches those purple boots perfectly. Even if it is really dark blue, it still matches the purple boots. Blue and purple same the same base, right? Purple is just blue with added blue.
The leopard skirt is fabulous. It looks great on you. Lovely styling.

    1. It is indeed purple, a dark violet. The boots are also purple, but veering more into the magenta range (more red in them). I'm just whining about my purples not matching, Ivana! Thank you!

  7. Lovely winter sunshine! Send some of it our way, please...

Loving all the purples; purple bag and boots? Wow! L's blazer is magnificent - what a find.

  8. What a joyous outfit. I secretly was wondering whether the cut at the front of the skirt wouldn't reveal more than you want to.
And you are so right: It doesn't have to match - it just has to go.
L's jacket is so great. Cannot believe you got it at that price.
