Sneaky Post: Funky Friday in Bellbottom Cords and a Floofy-Sleeved Top

Surprise! I'm sneaking this post in while I have a few minutes and then - really, for real this time - I'm signing off on a long weekend.

This seemed like an appropriate outfit for almost-Remembrance Day, and yet still be true to my funky self.
Coworker Simona admired "all my poppies" while we were chatting so I waved my sleeves at her and lifted up my leg to show off the cords.

  • Top - Frank Lyman, thrifted; last worn here in December 2022 with a big black skirt
  • Cords - Diane Von Furstenberg, vintage 90s, thrifted, Seattle; purchased here for $25.00 US
  • Shoes - Classy Nora, Fluevog; last seen here on a Snow Day in February
  • Cape (below) - Arola, vintage, Finland, thrifted; last seen here in May

Sleeves? What sleeves? I balled the big swoopy bells into the upper arm while I ate lunch.
The pattern is roses and they're all beautifully embroidered. I'm wearing a black cami underneath, as that's a sheer top.

I love these new-to-me vintage late 90s pin-wale cords.
I spent about an hour while we watched football last weekend stitching the cuffs to the leg - they were gaping open and were full of dust and dog-hair.

They're no longer a trip hazard, but they are still very long.
I'll show you my trick below for commuting in long trousers.

Outerwear, a gorgeous Arola Finnish woven cape.
It wasn't as cold today, but it rained steadily all day.

Incognito in the morning, and showing my purse underneath.
I carried a cloth tote with my shoes in it, and trudged home in the rain with three bags of groceries after work.

Accoutrements:
One of my red "sets."

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Silk scarf - Elaine Gold, consignment
  • Beret - Parkhurst, consignment
  • Leather gloves - Echo, consignment

The stuff:
I love these shoes - that's an easy heel for me, very comfy. I gave a tour of the office and building to one of our new people today and did a few flights of stairs in them.

Bold bling:
Hand candy.

  • Lucite/silver bracelet - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Fang bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Silver/obsidian ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver/concrete ring - Raul Caballero, Oui Jewelry
  • Earrings - Betsey Johnson, swap from Cat

My trick for extra-long cuffs is bulldog or purse clips. I fold the cuff up once, and clip one on the inside and one on the outside.
"And then your hungry cat ate your shoelaces."

Naughty boy.

May your weekend be filled with peace, Gentle Reader.

  2. What a beautiful Remembrance Day outfit - you really do have an outfit for all occasions! The red beret looks very striking against your blue hair. Lovely! Have a good weekend!

  3. I spy a red poppy pinned to that gorgeous flouncey-sleeved blouse! Love the colors and the flair of the blouse and the pants. :) And those are spiffy shoes!

    Echoing your sign off…
    Cheers, Laurie

  4. What a fab Remembrance Day outfit (I see Claire's said the same!) The bulldog clip idea is genius. I badly injured myself 20 years ago wearing overly long 1970s tweed flares (they looked great but the shredded skin of my knees after going arse over tit traumatised me for life!)
I hope Vizzini didn't destroy those laces! xxx

  5. Wowzers, that outfit is absolutely fabulous and couldn't be more perfect for Remembrance Day! Totally swooning over your blouse (very sensible to tuck the bells into the upper arm while eating) and those bell bottoms are the 70s personified.
Your Arola cape is seriously swoon-worthy as well, and I love your blue hair peeking out from under the red beret! xxx P.S. Not showing that last picture to Bess as it might give her ideas :-)

  7. I've loved and worn bell-bottoms since the Sixties. Never heard the term "cords" before so off to do some research.

    1. Bell-bottoms are the shape - "cords" is short for "corduroys". You've never heard of "cords" as referring to corduroy pants before?
