Mom-Day Adventure: Blenkinsop Lake in Vintage Orange; a Minuscule Shop

Oh, my friends, I can't even express how good it was to see Mom again - it's been a month since we last hugged!
Our last Mom-Day was way back in December (hilariously, I wore the same sweater and boots!), and we last visited Blenkinsop Lake here in June 2023 which feels so very long ago!

I took lots of pics, but first, the outfit.
I've been craving wearing this gorgeous vintage 70s woven skirt again.

  • Embellished jean jacket - Ricochetjackets, upcycled, consignment; last worn here in December 2023 with chartreuse
  • Wool sweater - Bartolini, consignment; last seen here in December 2023 on our last Mom-Day adventure
  • Skirt - Arola by Pirkko Maki, vintage 70s, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in February 2023 for a stroll at the Gorge with L
  • Boots - Ecco, thrifted; last worn here on that same December 2023 Mom-Day!

We had a mixed bag for weather - from moments of sun, to wind, to spitty rain. I dressed appropriately for the milder temps.
This is how most people saw me.

Indoors - jacket open to show my amber necklaces.
We went to the Monkey Tree Pub for lunch after our walk.

And then I bussed back to town and had a brief browse at the WIN Boutique on Cook Street before wending my way home.
Such a cool jean jacket.

I didn't take it off at all, but here's the ensemble without.
Isn't the skirt a beauty?

I feel like I should be lounging on chic mid-century teak furniture in it.
As always, the loopy frill at the bottom of the skirt snagged on my shoes. I left little shreds of wool everywhere I went.

And all done up again.
I enjoyed the rich tones of oranges, purples and burgundies.

Accoutrements:
Of course, I always have to wear something of Mom's - the scarf is from her.

  • Purse - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Scarf - Pierre Cardin, Mom's
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Fur headwrap/scarf - Danier, thrifted

The stuff:
The boots are a dark purple and are very comfortable for walking.

Amber bling:
I ended up not wearing the larger bracelet as it fell off while I was messing about with jacket cuffs and gloves. I don't want to lose it!

  • Silver/amber necklace - vintage 30s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Amber/silver drop necklace - vintage mall, gift from L
  • Silver/amber earrings - thrifted
  • Two-tone amber bracelet - consignment
  • Thin amber/silver bracelet - consignment, Powell River
  • Amber/silver thumb ring - consignment
  • Anneke & Lars ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall
  • Silver/amber ring - Past Times, gift from L, c. 1995
  • Python belt - Club Monaco, thrifted

We parked out where the Lochside Trail crosses Blenkinsop Lake.
With the warmer temps, there are a few signs of spring but it was mostly bare branches.

A view of PKOLS (formerly Mt. Doug).
And who's that I see?

Howard the Gnome!
Looking good, my friend!

This park sculpture is one of our favourites.
"I just want to make a big GONG!" quipped Mom.

Nature mirrors "The Rings" sculpture above.
A weird-looking fungi, and unnaturally bright moss.

More fungi growing on this fallen branch.
Like ruffles!

These moss-coated trees looked ominous.
Like they froze when we looked at them, and will move again when we pass.

We saw so many birds! Blue jays, redwing blackbirds...
This tiny hummingbird was perched at the very top of this tree.

We arrived at the trestle bridge.
So many bikes whizzed past us.

This is such a pretty area.
Our sightlines were much longer due to bare branches.

A brown vulture circled above us.
Magnificent!

Ducks dashed overhead.
And bands of robins flitted from tree to tree. I spy someone...

Mom, your boyfriend's waiting for you!
This was a shorter walk for us, as Mom's been stuck indoors for weeks and tired quickly.

But she was determined to say hello to Roy.
It's been a while.

"Good to see you, Helen, you look well."
"Aw, I missed you too."

"We'll have to do this again soon."
"Oh, we will."

A few duck on the other side of the lake.
The bulrushes were at various stages of disintegration into fluff.

Time to turn around.
My tummy's growling!

We could soon see the glint of The Rings in the distance.
Touches of colour.

A skittering in the ivy high up in this tree.
Squirrel! I see you!

I spotted some sort of thrush(?) way up high.
Our slower walk allows us to see more.

And here are, back where we started.
Everything is circular.

It has only been a couple of weeks since I thoroughly shopped the WIN Boutique so I wasn't expecting to find much.
A simple dark red knit tank. Useful but not very exciting.

I found it by feel.
Just a touch of cashmere

It's by Caroline Grace, a line I'm not familiar with.
Imagine my surprise to find they specialize in cotton/cashmere blends - their current tank top retails for $79.99! My $8.95 is a score!

A good pic of Mom at the pub in her lovely red sweater.
It was so good to see you, Mom - I love you!

And now, Gentle Readers, I'm going to be off for the weekend - I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure! Be well, be happy and be serene.

  1. Yay, so lovely to see you and your Mom out and about! You both wore bright colors (always in synch you two :)) and I quite like your Mom’s sweater. Thanks for taking us on your walk! I know this walk and chuckled to see Roy again. :)
    Happy Weekend!
    Cheers, Laurie

  2. I know you’re keen on grammar and spelling, so I’ll gently point out that “minuscule” is the correct spelling (“minus,” not “mini”).

  3. How lovely to see you and lovely Helen out and about again! I absolutely love your orange furry headband thingy and the skirt always looks fabulous. I bet Roy had missed a cuddle from his favourite lady.
    Great capture of the vulture!
    Have a fabulous weekend. xxx

  4. How lovely to see a Mom and Sheila selfie again, and of course I loved joining you on your outing to Blenkinsop Lake!
Your outfit is fabulous in every way. That Arola skirt is an absolute stunner and I'm swooning over your embellished denim jacket too. LOVE the bright orange head wrap/scarf. I've got a very similar one in moss green, but so far I've only used it as a scarf. Need to rectify that! xxx

  5. What a lovely photo of your mother. She looks so happy. And now I'm craving for a walk in our national park. But it's cold here, but dry and sunny. What more can we ask for in January right

  8. Hoorah for being able to see your mum again!

That skirt really is a beaut. I always get annoyed if my shoes catch on my clothes, but then I'm so clumsy there's a big risk of falling, so maybe it's self-preservation.
