Blue Velvet and Puffer Therapy

Since I started this blog in 2008, I've believed in the power of a dress to make you feel good. When you're feeling low, wear a dress.
After yesterday's "meh" outfit, a good Jammy Dress feels like I'm bouncing right back.

  • Dress - COS, thrifted; purchased here for $12.00
  • Boots - Coach, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here (2nd outfit) with an orange sweater-dress in December 2023
  • Coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last worn here a couple of weeks ago

As expected, this silk/viscose velvet dress steamed out beautifully, and was an absolute tactile pleasure to wear.
Very soft velvets always have the same effect for me as petting a cat - it's therapy!

This dress is a resounding YES for me, and worth every one of its twelve dollars.
The velvet creased up while I worked in it, but that's to be expected.

I tried multiple pairs of boots with it, and all were fabulous.
I also pondered my jewelry options - my copper looks stunning against this rich blue velvet.

But most of all, I know this is a true Jammy Dress because...
POCKETS!

I felt like a rock star, especially after my hair puffed out to a big 70s shag after walking to and from work in the rain without a hat.
This puffer always feels like a hug. It's therapy too!

We had fog all day, which matched my state of mind.
It's the time of year - I haven't seen sunshine in weeks!

Accoutrements:
You may have noticed that I have a very critical eye when it comes to my things. It's time for this scarf to go to the Consignment Gods.

  • Silk scarf - Halston, vintage 90s, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

Bye-bye, ugly Halston scarf! I paid $14.95 for it back here in spring 2022, new with tags.

The stuff:
I just love these studded boots - they're so over the top.

Alien bling:
This statement necklace has to be planned for! I spotted the blue stones on the "alien" head and the other shapes, and knew this would look great with the blue dress.

  • Necklace - All Saints, gift from Dominique
  • Silver studded Lucite cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Chain cuff - consignment
  • Silver/turquoise earrings - thrifted; purchased here for $15.00
  • Silver/obsidian ring - consignment
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Kyanite/silver ring - consignment

I liked how the shape of the earrings matched the necklace.

  1. Yes to the dress! Cos is one of those labels I always snap up in charity shops, they're really well designed and a cut above the usual high street fodder. That dress is a case in point.
I'd forgotten that fantastic Alien Head necklace, such fun. xxx

  3. I like how the aliens mesh with the studs of the boots. As for the dress, oh yes, ‘one and done’ with the added plus of pockets and velvet, definitely a ‘pick me up’ outfit! Glad it did just that for you!

  4. Yes. Velvet is not only visually appealing but tactilely pleasant. I love to touch it. And yes again, you're a rock star!

And you couldn't have chosen a better necklace to wear with it than the Alien Head one! xxx

  6. Great dress and surprise to wear it so quickly after you bought it at bookclub. I just wore a dress on Friday too while working from home and it had a good psychological effect on me. Will do so more often.

  7. Fantastic dress, fantastic boots. A real winner. It reminds me of the yellow Essentiel dress.
