Twice-Worn Thousand-Dollar Sweater and Quilted Skirt

Hello, my friends! I spent Thursday in a flurry of Things That Had To Be Done, including dealing with our phone provider by phone and in person, a plumbing shut-off, and taking down all of my Christmas decorations (5 hours). And then I went out for dinner!
This is both what I wore to dinner, and also my Funky Friday work outfit. Why let a good outfit only see the light of day for a couple of hours, when I can share it with my coworkers? I wore it all twice!

  • Sweater - J. Crew Collection, Fall 2013, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in December 2022 with shorts
  • Skirt - Ilse Jacobsen, consignment; purchased here for $40/00
  • Sneakers - Converse, consignment; last seen here in December 2023 with grey and sparkles
  • Coat (below) - Auckie Sanft, vintage 60s, vintage fair; last worn here in April 2023

Yvonne and Cat had tickets to go see "Jesus Christ Superstar" which happens to be my LEAST favourite musical ever, so there was no way I was going...but they were kind enough to invite their hubbies - and me! - out to their pre-show dinner.
"You should stay home with meeeee...."

I took the opportunity to wear this new-to-me quilted skirt to our little party at Vista 18, where I promptly spilled sauce from my mussels on it.

I washed the spot out with soap and water in the washroom - classy! It came out fine, phew. Not even a spot left. I love this skirt - it's warm (but not too warm), and comfy, and I love the deep zip pockets.
I took these pics in the late afternoon on Thursday, before I walked to town, giving myself extra time on Friday morning to get ready.

I was photobombed by Mr. Vizz.
"We know who is more popular, don't we?"

Yes, we do.

The sweater really was sold for over a THOUSAND dollars at J. Crew.
I've had it for nearly 5 years - I only paid $19.99 for it, new with tags - and have worn it 8 times so far.

It was cold out once it got dark, so I bundled up in the Fuzzy Flamingo.
She's not really a cold-weather coat, but I added accoutrements that were extra-warm.

I was easy to see in the dark, as I navigated through town.
Ross walked me home afterwards - thanks, man!

Accoutrements:
I'd forgotten about my long suede gloves - they kept my arms warm, as the Fuzzy Flamingo has rather short sleeves.

  • Purse - Marc Jacobs, consignment
  • Hat - M&S, consignment, Powell River
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Suede gloves - Aldo, thrifted

For Friday, I switched to my pink leather backpack.
So pink! So many zippers!

  • Backpack - Ash, consignment

The stuff:
The sneakers were marvelous for walking and bouncing around in the office.

Brassy bling:
All the beading on the sweater is very blingy, so I didn't need much else.

  • Brass/leather cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Brass/copper cuff - Karen's
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Earrings - thrifted

I'm off now for the weekend, but I leave you with a shot of downtown Victoria's Inner Harbour...plus a reflection of the restaurant's interior.
So pretty!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend! I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure - thank you so much for dropping by!

  2. We've just taken down our tree, and I it took us all of 30 minutes, even without help from Bess, who was quite disappointed it had gone :-)
Perfect styling for the quilted skirt's first outing, and it was a delight to see the Fuzzy Flamingo again. Pink and grey is such a fab combo!
Have a lovely weekend Sheila! xxx

  3. Been thoroughly enjoying all your posts! I took a hiatus from commenting b/c I torqued a back muscle (much better now, yay) and sat only as long as needed to read. Turns out walking, as tolerated, and being upright is much better than sitting for helping to heal a back muscle. After this humbling experience I am working on getting my mental self-image a bit more in synch with my physical reality.

I like the combining of the Converse with the mega-money top, the coupling of grays with pinks, and the very comfy practical skirt. The skirt seems perfect for days when snuggling is on the mind but outings are what’s happening.

    Happy January 2024!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Good to hear from you, Laurie! I hope your back is feeling better - I know it seems contradictory, but moving and exercising really helps a bad back (I do a ton of core and upper body strengthening exercises to keep mine in shape).

Thanks so much - I hope the New Year is treating you and Fred well. <3

    2. Thanks Sheila! I need to put together the type of exercises as noted by you. Am slated for PT on Wednesday and hoping/expecting that’s what they will help me with. Back injuries are humbling!

  4. I love that wonderfully vibrant pink on you, what a cheery colour for Mid-Winter!
That's a fabulous shot of Victoria's harbour and terrific action shots of Vizzini.
Have a wonderful weekend. I should follow your lead and tick off things that need to be done rather than reading blogs! xxx

  5. It's a beautiful sweater. I'm glad you didn't have to pay a thousand dollars for it but got it for less than 20 (if I remembered correctly). I love the pink coat on you.
I'm sick so my weekend won't be very productive, I'm afraid!

  8. I'm glad you were able to wear the outfit for both occasions - and that the skirt cleaned up so you could wear it the next day! The top is so pretty and it's good you got to wear it twice :)

  9. Hello Sheila...and Happy New Year!
I recently found a quilted Monsoon mini skirt in a charity shop and have worn it loads. They're surprisingly warm aren't they? Shame about your mussels juice spillage!
That coat is a beautiful shade of pink. I love it!

  10. Love the skirt. I tried on a similar one two weeks ago but it was a little too big, longer than yours and absolutely wrong for my figure. Instead I bought a shiny silver pleated skirt with a thick wool sweater. You will see it in a couple of weeks. Ron said "Jesus" when he saw it. And then: "Pigs in space..."
Imagine having paid so much money for the top (originally). It is a work of art though.
I like your coat as well, but you already know that.
