Graphic Mesh, Wide-Leg Leopard and Sewn-Up Silk

Woo, today is my Friday - I have my usual Thursday (aka Mom-Day) off, plus I took Friday off for a special event.

I wasn't feeling Classy, so I went with Funky.
I always look Klassy, hee hee.

  • Mesh top - Mexx, thrifted; purchased here for $19.99
  • Pants - Soaked in Luxury; last seen here in October 2022 with more black and white
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last worn here in May with thrifted Gaultier

I built the outfit around this new-to-me late 90s/early 00s mesh top.
I am a fan of graphic black and white prints.

And I usually wear black and white with my wide-leg leopard trousers.
Of course I put them together!

This top will likely be worn more as a layering piece.
I wore a black cami under it.

Incognito.
Who is that??

The stuff:
More black and white. Toe was very happy with this pointier toe, although it is still taped to its neighbour for Safety.

Amber bling:
I always rub this drop necklace when I wear it - I love the huge piece of amber.

  • Scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Amber/silver necklace - vintage mall, gift from L
  • Amber/silver earrings - vintage 1920s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Steel cuff - thrifted
  • Bracelet - Fossil, gift from L
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Silver/amber ring - consignment
  • Silver balls ring - Sidney

While we were at the BBQ last weekend, I had a mishap with my lovely bright silk Marc Rozier vintage scarf. I had it tied to my purse (as here) and dropped it beside a chair on Chris and Ali's patio.
RIIIPPPP it went as I yanked on it, not realized it was under a chair leg. AWWWWWW....so sad. That's a big tear, plus a long shred of fibres in a string in the centre of the hole.

However, really, it's just a hole. 90% of the scarf is still perfect - and this 10% is not in an area where it might be seen, like an edge or corner.
So I rolled the edges together, with the long fibres, and sewed it up with yellow thread. Good enough!

It's not even noticeable when I'm wearing it. And it's better than throwing it away!
You don't see French silk scarves in these colours that often, and I have had it for over 10 years. I'd never toss you, old friend.

Vizzini kept me company while I blogged after work yesterday.
"This is the best."

Kitty in the sun!

  1. Another very comfortable looking outfit…good for air flow on the legs while offering protection from air conditioned spaces. Sewing is one of the best skills I learned as a child! So many small tears have been mended that way. Yay for mending your scarf. The sewn portion all but disappears within the pattern!

Here’s to a Mom Day today and a wonderful self-made four day weekend! I enjoy reading your replies to comments. :)
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. My mom taught me basic sewing and embroidery when I was a kid (I was an overachiever in Brownies back in the day - had all the badges!), and it's stood me in good stead, Laurie.

We're off to Swan Lake (I think - Mom likes to surprise me), and have a couple of fun events this weekend. Thanks so much for commenting, Laurie - it makes my day! <3

  2. Love the way the amber of your necklace reflects the rust colour of those gorgeous wide legged trousers. But surely that mesh top is too good to be just a layering piece?
Well done on mending that tear in your lovely scarf. It would be a shame to throw it away.
Enjoy your four-day weekend Sheila! xxx

  3. We just got back from Prague and amber was everywhere! Love your pendant. I have an amber ring somewhere. Must dig it out.
Well done on the repair. That scarf is definitely too pretty to throw away! x

  4. I love those pants and I'm really impressed with your sewing skills! I really need to improve my sewing, although I have tried! My sister got me a book for Christmas that had simple ways to repair clothes and I've used it a couple times. On the kids clothes mostly, they are always putting holes in things, haha! But I'm sure you can tell it was done by a novice - your scarf repair on the other hand looks wonderful!
