Rose Robe and Black Velvet

I'm officially on vacation, as I've taken Friday off for some girlfriend shenanigans this weekend. I celebrated with a swooshy sheer robe covered in roses.
I've been getting into the habit after work of diving immediately into my closet and building the next day's outfit - I do the accessorizing before bed.

  • Robe - Betsey Johnson, consignment; purchased here for $24.00
  • Top - Beechers Brook, vintage early 00s, thrifted; last worn here in June with dots and red bookends
  • Trousers - Escada Sport, thrifted; first worn here in May with chartreuse bookends
  • Shoes - Effortless Bebe, Fluevog; last seen here for brunch in June

It pays off, spending that time with a new item - better outfits!
While I love how this robe looks and I enjoyed wearing it, it became more annoying over the day.

I think I just need to find a better quality rose robe - Always Be Upgrading, folks!
The fabric is cheap, and it snagged on my belt, and caused long pulls in the back. The ruffles snagged on my bracelet multiple times, resulting in more pulls. Fixing pulls is easy (a few gentle tugs), but I shouldn't have to do this on my first wear!

Because these aren't real sleeves (just a seam in the rectangle side panels), it pulled up and bunched when I wore my backpack. And for a "one size fits most" it was a rather stingy cut.
I had lots of room (and it did not get eaten by my office chair or try to dunk in the toilet) but I really wanted more heft and volume - just a personal wish. I'll put it on my mental shopping list.

Without the robe.
Your basic black velvet cropped pants and a red top.

Incognito.
Scarf for sunblock - I turned it around and covered the back of my neck with the ends.

The stuff:
Pink shoes to match the roses. I'm so happy to wear these again - Toe did not like that point very much.

Gold and leather bling.
I'd forgotten about Mom's choker, which is a mix of beads strung on a leather cord. I pinched it from one of her jewelry boxes around 1985 and wore it often to high school.

  • Scarf - Smoking Lily, vintage 90s, vintage emporium
  • Belt - thrifted
  • Choker - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Gold hoop earrings - 5th anniversary gift from L
  • Gold bangle - thrifted
  • Leather/chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Hematite ring - thrifted
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's

Vizzini, aren't you excited? I'm on holiday!
"You're leaving me?"

Don't worry, little bud, the Man will feed you and give you many cuddles. And we still have Mom-Day tomorrow!

  1. Black - velvet, no less! - and red are always a nice combo, and wow, those pants are a lovely flattering cut. When a cropped pant falls properly (sometimes an issue for me at 5ft 2in!) the look is comfortable, cooling and, thanks to the velvet, classy. :)

Alas for the robe, though it was nice to see it styled at least once and, despite how it wore through the day, it has a delightfully colorful and flowy summer vibe.

Here’s to your Mom Day Adventure and the super weekend with your friends!

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I love black, red and velvet too! I usually don't have much luck with cropped flares, but these just work so well on me.

Yeah, I'm not too heartbroken - it's just not very good quality, sadly. Thanks, Laurie!

  2. The rose robe looks pretty but I can tell you weren’t thrilled with it…the pants however are amazing!!!
Love it with that red top and shoes.
Hope you enjoy your getaway with your friends! Happy holidays.

  3. What a shame about the rose robe, as it is looks fabulous, but sometimes looks aren't the be all and end all. Its snagging properties would drive me crazy, so I'm hearing you!
Well done on creating outfits straight after work. I should take a leaf out of your book, but I've been feeling a bit off lately, and I'm the first to admit I've been a bit lazy where creating outfits is concerned. Can't wait to have my 3-day weekends back ...
Enjoy your mini vacation, Sheila! xxx

    1. Eh, I'm not losing any sleep over it - that's how it goes sometimes. Thanks, Ann! I find it really helpful and good for my brain to have my outfit planned out and pre-tested. This seems to be one of the things I drop when I'm feeling overwhelmed, but it's one of the best things I can do for myself, so I guess I'd better make more effort!

  4. Isn't snaggy material frustrating? Why make something as long as a robe in such material? What a shame. It's pretty, but I have every faith that you'll find a suitable replacement.
    Happy Holidays!

    1. It's the worst - do they not road-test garments before mass-producing them? I guess not! Thanks, Claire!

  7. That's an adorable photo of Vizzini!
How annoying that that cover-up was a snaggy b*stard but I know you'll have fun hunting for a more superior version. xxx

    1. Such a sweet face that boy has. Gosh, I was so annoyed at the robe by the time I got home - I was happy to toss it in the giveaway bag.
