Mom-Day Adventure: Westsong Walkway in a Giant Jumpsuit, and a Wee Shop

Welcome back to our Mom-Day Adventures, gentle readers! Mom and I were so excited to see each other again. Big smiles - all the teeth!
We returned to the Westsong Walkway along Victoria's lovely Inner Harbour, for a leisurely stroll followed by lunch at Spinnakers Brew Pub. We last visited this spot back here in November 2022 - I enjoyed looking back at that to see the differences a few seasons makes. We've never gone there in summer!

I've had this outfit assembled in my closet for months - since I bought the pink tee - waiting for warmer weather!
Mom hadn't seen this amazing jumpsuit before in person.

  • T-shirt - Design Lab, thrifted; purchased here for $19.99
  • Linen jumpsuit - Jean Charles de Castelbajac, vintage 90, thrifted; last worn here
  • Sandals - Wonders; last seen here in September 2022 with a white and yellow

The tee is a saturated shade of candy pink, but it's elasticated and cropped at the bottom, so I'll only be wearing it layered under things.
But I liked the pops of pink from it and my shoes.

I matched my lipstick too.
But I know you're agog with my giant jumpsuit.

It's a real CLASSY designer - Jean Charles de Castelbajac. I just spotted the exact same one on a resell site for 405 Euros (just under $600 Canadian).
I paid $37.99 for mine when I spotted it at Flavour Upstairs in 2019 - I've now worn it 7 times.

And yes, it's really a jumpsuit!
The legs are huge, very ABBA-esque.

The stuff:
These sandals are not as treacherous as they look. Shoe Math!

  • Purse - Roots 73, thrifted

Silver and steel bling:
Working my way through all those new bracelets and cuffs I bought last week.

  • Steel/stone cuff - Moda, Maltese, vintage 70s, vintage mall ; purchased here for $12.50
  • Chain cuff - consignment
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall

Mom and I parked near Spinnakers and walked back along the water, then turned around and ended back at the pub for lunch.
Mom's looking awesome in her new blue hat. The necklace is from Hawaii in the 80s, with sandalwood beads and a cloisonné cluster of plumeria blossoms. Love that striped tee!

We had a glimpse of the harbour as we neared the path.
We had a glorious sunny day, with temps in the low 20s and only a light breeze (it's usually really windy near the water).

Through an arch of arbutus trees.
This was the shadiest spot of our entire walk.

A giant cruise ship is in town.
You can get an idea of the scale - the red arrow is pointing at one of our little harbour ferries.

The cruise ship dominated the skyline.
We're a major stop on the route up to Alaska.

It being the middle of tourist season, almost noon, and a lovely day, there were tons of people around.
Not so much wildlife - gaggles of nasty Canada geese all over the place. Move along!

Our harbour is always busy. Cruise ship, a mid-sized cruiser boat, and the little harbour ferry on the left.
There was a heron on the island in the foreground, on the log on the right. .

See it?
Just doing his best "I'm an urn" impression and having a nap in the sun.

Mom and I often paused and watched the goings-on.
We had a good catch-up on all the stuff going on in our lives.

Glimpses of the Olympic Mountains and Hurricane Ridge across the strait. That's the USA!
I spy a tanker/barge in the distance.

We've never walked back this way - we usually start around the corner from that far point.
We've walked over that bridge a few times.

There's "our" gazebo.
We usually stop here for a rest before turning around.

It was occupied.
But we just chilled out and enjoyed the break.

I can see myself in Mom's sunglasses.
I'm hungry, let's go for lunch!

There were lots of seaplanes taking off and landing.
What's that shadow near the end of the breakwater?

Another cruise ship!
Go away, we already got one!

The tide was low.
We could smell the kelp and salty tang of the ocean.

I am pretty sure that the white blob is a dead jellyfish.
Some kelp on the left.

Sea anemones and barnacles in the tide pools.
If you stick your finger in a sea anemone it will close on you!

This crow landed close to us.
Lots of teenager crows around right now.

I spotted this little mama after hearing her loud chirping coming from inside a wild rose hedge.
"Begone!"

A tale of two focuses.
Cruise ship and harbour ferry with a blurry bramble.

Same shot.
See the bees? I put red dots near them.

Finally, we arrived back at Spinnakers.
Mom had halibut fish & chips and I had a salmon burger. Yum!

I walked back to town.
I spy the Coho Ferry, coming in from Port Angeles, in Washington State.

I popped into Flavour Upstairs and found a couple of things.
A lovely 100% cotton fleecy snap-front jacket in chartreuse-mustard.

A nice waist detail on the back!
I just love that colour.

Made in France!
I know that name...

Agnes B. it's called "Le Petit snap cardigan" and it retails for $230.00 (here, links 'cause I love). I knew that $34.99 was a steal!
As you can see by the internal fleece, this has a bit of age on it - from their site:

The snap cardigan was created by agnès b. in 1979. It was an immediate success and agnès b. continues to develop each year.
Have you heard of her as a designer? About her here - she's still around at 81 years old!

And...I found another piece for my Weird Adidas collection - a tie-front waist-length tee!
I love the bold palm fronds - this will go with a lot of my summer wardrobe.

A nicely-embroidered logo.
Not too gauche.

Ooh, I see a label.
That looks like a date to me - December 2018. Not very old.

I saw an old ad from the Hudson's Bay showing it sold out at $24.99.
So not a great savings at $19.99, but hey, I'm supporting a local shop!

Vizzini, how about a reaction from you?
"Can I sleep on them?"

No, you may not.

And now, my friends, I'm going to be off for a bit as I live in the moment and take a few days off. I will likely be back on Monday, so don't panic.

Have a joyful weekend, full of bright colours and ocean breezes! Thank you so much for stopping by!

  1. Ah, what a lovely walk! Except for the dead jellyfish, that is :-)
Your giant jumpsuit is a delight, and I totally get why you wanted to wear it with the candy pink t-shirt underneath. Your Mom's blue hat is fabulous too!
I'm not really a fan of sport-y clothes, but I'm loving the palm frond pattern of that Adidas top. A great addition to your "weird collection" ;-)
Enjoy your days off, Sheila! xxx

  2. Beautiful selfie photo of you two!

What a glorious day for a wonderfully satisfying walk with your Mom! Helen, I immediately gravitated to your floral pendant and blue hat. The blue of the hat is a such a rich warm color, very flattering. :)

Sheila, two nice hauls from your wee shop. Chuckling as I’ve become acclimated to your adidas collection. 😂

Here’s to a FABULOUS weekend! As I type this you might just be waking, the day young with the adventure to come!

I am off to window shop in a brick and mortar store! Might even snag a few dresses since everything is marked down with an additional 50% off the markdown prices.

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. It was! I hate the cruise ships, but they are a needed source of economic input here. They are not to my taste either. I'll wear the jacket soon!

  4. Fabulous photos Sheila. What a pretty harbour (shame about the monster cruise ship spoiling the view). Loving the mountain views.
The jumpsuit is fabulous and Spinnakers looks like a cool hangout. The salmon burger has got me salivating! x
