Mustard Murmurations and Suede Swirls

We woke up to summer rain, which we've needed so badly in this part of the world lately. It smelled amazing!
Getting one of my favourite recent purchases into an outfit right away, this new-to-me blouse.

  • Blouse - Wilfred, consignment; purchased here for $42.00
  • Skirt - Nine West, thrifted; last worn here in November 2022 for a Mom-Day Adventure in Sidney
  • Shoes - Pegabo, consignment; last seen here in May with a blue dress
  • Leather jacket (below) - Danier, consignment; last worn here in May

The rain kept everyone home - the office was dead today.
I was also stuck at my desk, so I couldn't even show off my Mustard Murmuration blouse to my colleagues. Pout.

I'd had another, solid-coloured skirt lined up to wear with the blouse and changed it last night in favour of this cream and grey swirled suede one.
The pattern on the mustard blouse reads as grey in pictures, and the movement of the two patterns just seemed to work.

The blouse was lovely to wear (silk is magic).
The suede skirt got soaked on the walk home, and the glue on the front hem came undone. I've carefully pressed it back together - I hope it sticks!

Incognito. I wore my sunglasses in the rain - I like hiding in them.
My leather jacket got soaked, and is drying out. It'll be fine - leather is great in the rain.

Accoutrements return!
One of my awesome wool fedoras, which are the best for keeping rain away. It's sopping wet in this pic.

  • Wool fedora - Edward Mann, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Andres Courreges, vintage 70s, consignment; purchased here for $38.40

The scarf kept the rain from going down the back of my neck. It's also drying out.

The stuff:
Good news - Toe is healed! And I've removed all the nasty corns as well, and my feet are in good condition...but I'm still going to be kinder to them. These pointy toes were fine - I wore silicon toe-sleeves on the tenderest spots.

Minimal bling:
With all that pattern, I didn't need much.

  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Earrings - thrifted

  2. All done up your outfit has me thinking ‘super sleuth’ or ‘Carmen Sandiego”! I like the combo of (for me) a very period style blouse with a non-traditional skirt. The pairing changes the dynamic of the blouse in a way I can appreciate.

Also appreciating your earrings - dangly and golden.

Yay for rain! We’ve had a lot of rain and are now saying yay for clear skies and smoke-free air.

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Yes! I always feel like a sleuth when I have my fedoras on! You've hit the nail on the head - it's important with clothes that are evocative of an era (this blouse is very 70s/early 80s) to be paired with items that are not expected, like this swirly skirt. Otherwise, they can skew costume-y.

I paid a dollar for those! Never regretted it.

It was wonderful - no rain today, but it was cloudy for a while. Enjoy the clear air!

  3. Oh, that mustard hue is absolutely lovely on you! I have to keep most shades of mustard far from my face (it fights with my pink-white skin), but I love a mustard skirt or bag. Great blouse; the pattern is really gorgeous.

    1. Aw, thank you, Julia! I totally get that - certain colours have no business near my face (some shades of blue make me look very red/pink in the face).

  4. I just love the smell of Summer rain after a dry and warm period!
As for your outfit, how fabulous it is. That blouse is such a delight - I love that the pattern is reminiscent of murmurations of starlings, it really is! - and the pattern mixing with the skirt is just brilliant! xxx

  5. I've got a gammy toe too! It has been black since April when I did that Pennine Way walk and it taking AGES to grow out. I tried to cover with pink nail varnish but it's all chipped and I can't find any polish remover so now it looks bruised, scabby AND chipped!
I LOVE the Murmurations- that's SUCh a dreamy garment AND it's silk. Purrrr!!!!
The skirt goes unbelievably well. xx
