Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Halston Triple: Profesh and Posh Friday; 90s Silk and White Jeans; Orange You Glad It's Book Club?

Welcome back, my friends! I hope you've enjoyed a calm few days yourselves. We have a few outfits to review, so please grab a cup and settle in.

I had my annual performance review on Friday, so I dressed down from my usual level of Friday whackitude.
My boss wouldn't care, but it made me feel more confident and profesh. I received an "Exceeded Expectations" and everyone is happy. Yay!

  • Sweater - Prada, consignment; purchased here for $32.50
  • Trousers - Cartonnier, thrifted; last worn here in March with a statement scarf
  • Shoes - Banana Republic, consignment; last seen here in March with a grey shorts suit
  • Coat (below) - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment, Sidney; purchased here yesterday for $208.60

I really wanted to wear my new-to-me vintage Halston coat, so I built an outfit I could safely wear under it and not inflict Shearling Rage on myself.
I'm happy to report it was a success! I chose trousers - these dark teal plaid ones have been with me since 2018, thrifted for a mere $15.00.

The cashmere/wool sweater is my new-to-me Prada, picked up last weekend - it was very luxurious to wear, very soft and snuggly.
I tucked it in at the front to show the belt.

And left the back hem untucked (the pants are low-rise at the back).
When I was pulling up the link for the sweater, I remembered when I found my very first piece of Prada, back here in September 2010, for a whopping $3.99 at Value Village (Caro has it now). I also used to have a Prada baguette purse, given to me back here in May 2018 by my former coworker Dominique (I gave the purse to my friend Jen).

Masked up.
More matchy.

Incognito Rock Star. "Oh, what's that coat?"
"This old thing? It's Halston, darling."

Bundled up.
The coat doesn't look that great done up (I resemble a burrito), but it sure is snuggly and lovely to wear!

It looks awesome from the back - that's comforting.
The Ultrasuede was amazing and very soft - this is very early historically for it, and the quality is very high.

Accoutrements:
More designers - I dress better from the thrift/consignment stores than I ever have my life!

  • Hat - Edward Mann, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Pierre Cardin, Jeunesse, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Gloves - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

I needed longer gloves (my wrists were cold) and a thicker scarf.

Oops, missed my belt.
Leopard!

  • Belt - Talbots, thrifted

The stuff:
Still hanging onto these shoes, which I don't love but are holding the place of Best Leopard Shoes until I can find an upgrade. They are good quality but adequate style. I don't like the loafer front - everything else is good, and they are comfy.

Tortoiseshell bling:
The earrings are a pain with a mask. How we suffer for fashion!

  • Snake bracelet - vintage 1920s, antique store, Sidney
  • Bangle - vintage, thrifted
  • Earrings - local, Hamilton
  • Wood ring - Dots
  • Bronze ring - P. Sarpaneva, vintage 70, vintage expo
  • Brass ring - vintage mall
  • Amber/silver thumb ring - antique store, Sidney
  • Amber/silver necklace - antique mall, gift from L

After an evening of board games, L and I both slept in - we decided to skip brunch and just get groceries, and then chill at home until an afternoon appointment.
Gads! It's so bright out!

  • Blouse - Dalmys, vintage 90s, thrifted; first worn here in June with more 90s neutrals
  • Jeans - Cambio; last seen here in October with yellow and plaid
  • Sneakers - Converse, consignment; first seen here in October for birthday lunch with Mom
  • Coat (below) - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment, Sidney; first worn above on Friday

I wore the outfit around the house like this.
I have a camisole on under this lush silk blouse for extra warmth.
Comfy jeans for cat-wrangling.

We took Vizzini to see a tech at the veterinary clinic, to get his blood pressure checked and see how he's responding to his meds.
He's stable, but hard to say for sure, as he gets very wrought up about going there.

Masked up:
This is how I looked in the grocery store - I had a lovely chat with a lady at the deli counter who was wearing a pink coat. Dressing up for the win!

Incognito - I'm so cool.
I love wearing this coat open like this - I feel like a boss!

Accoutrements:
Basics.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Gloves - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; purchased here for $12.95
  • Mask - by Mom

First wearing of the gloves - they were very warm and soft.

The stuff:
I love these sparkly sneakers.

Matchy bling:
The necklace is reversible - I wore it blue side down (pic here of the opposite face).

  • Belt - vintage, thrifted
  • Necklace - Stella & Dot, thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair

Hey, Vizzini, come here, I need to grab you.
"I no longer trust you, Woman."

I get him in the cat carrier by wrapping him up in a towel and shoving him in face-first. Much yowling ensues.
"We'll see how you yowl when I stick my paw in your mouth at 4am."

He is the vengeful sort.

L and I played more boardgames and listened to music until the wee hours on Saturday night, then were up to watch some football before L gave me a ride to Book Club at Spinnakers.
Book Club in a Pub! I dressed for comfort - Jammy Dress!

  • Dress - Zara, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in March for dinner at Yvonne & Randall's
  • Boots - Mamzelle, thrifted; last seen here in March at Finnerty Gardens
  • Coat (below) - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment, Sidney; last worn above

I have a full vintage slip on under this.
Excellent for smoothing and warmth.

The leopard tights are on their first wear (they're Joe Fresh, thrifted for $2.95).
I like that they are woven vs. printed.
A perfectly snuggly dress for hanging out and discussing our book, which was my pick, "A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win WWII" by Sonia Purnell (link here, 'cause I love).

Masked up:
Due to rising rates of respiratory illness (Covid + influenza-related illnesses) and hospitalizations, masks are highly recommended again in indoor spaces. I never stopped!

Outerwear.
Yes, it's a triple sighting of this Halston coat - I am now down to less than $70 per wear on this coat, ha ha! That feels positively cheap!

I risked Shearling Rage by wearing it with a knit dress.
L drove me one way, and I walked partway home with Cat and Yvonne. And there was...no Shearling Rage! This sweater dress was the ultimate test to see if it would catch on the shearling lining - and it did not. Didn't even budge! They definitely made things better back in the 70s!

Accoutrements:
My purse doesn't really match, but it was still ready to go from Saturday so...

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Scarf - vintage 70s, Lanvin, consignment
  • Leather gloves - vintage 40s, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I wore boots for walking, just in case I needed to - and I did! These are so comfy.

Brassy bling:
Some old, some new(ish).

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Brass/leather etched cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Brass/copper cuff - Karen's
  • Earrings - LA Express, c. 1994
  • Brass ring - vintage mall
  • Feather ring - Fossil, thrifted
  • Necklace - vintage 70s, Mom's

And now, time to go soothe the savage beast:
"You had to use the flash, didn't you?"

I'll make it up to him with a warm blanket.

And now, I'm off to enjoy the last few hours before work rears its head again. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend - thank you so much for stopping by!

Edit: One last pic - thanks, Caro!
Cat, me and Yvonne, outside Spinnakers! Tah-dah!

  1. Even style goddesses must shop for groceries from time to time, stylishly, of course.

  2. First of all, congratulations on "Exceeded Expectations" at work! You are also exceeding expectations with all three of your Halston shearling coat enhanced outfit. And yay for not having to deal with shearling rage!
Loving Friday's posh and profesh outfit and Saturday's silk blouse is absolutely stunning. My favourite is the orange knit dress - I'm on the lookout for a knit dress myself, but so far without success - which I love paired with the leopard tights. xxx P.S. Glade to hear Vizzini is stable!

  3. Nice review. I'm sure you put everything into the details at your work. That cost is fantastic. I'm guessing the cost per wear will keep creeping downward. I'm still fighting my cough, but better than it had been.

  4. All hail to the shearling coat! It's fabulous and although I gasped when I saw what it cost it is a designer coat; it is totally fab and you'll get so much wear out of it. What a great buy. I loved all three outfits but the orange jammy knitted dress was really lovely on you; the leopard print tights were an excellent addition. The white jeans and amazing mustard blouse was an excellent combination.

I hoped everything went okay with Vizzini's check up and that everyone enjoyed your book choice!

    Stay warm...

  6. That coat really is fabulous! Good work finding things that work underneath. Sending love to Vizzini, I am sure he is doing well, under all the anger at having to go to the vet!
