A Lotta Ocelot and Ally Boots

My office was busy today, and my workload accordingly goes up when there are more people around. Whew, I'm so glad I have tomorrow off.
This outfit came about as an attempt to "fall-ify" this summer-weight silk skirt once before I pack it away for the spring/summer season.

  • Blazer - Vivienne Westwood Red Label, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in March with matchy grey wool shorts - a suit!
  • Turtleneck - M&S, thrifted; last seen here in May for the Day of Indolence
  • Skirt - Talbots, thrifted; purchased here for $11.50
  • Boots - Vog Together, Fluevog, consignment; last worn here in February with a log cabin look
  • Coat (below) - Hilary Radley, thrifted; last seen here in December 2021

My view from the stairs this morning.
There is no Castle.

Since I've been having a few "blast from the past" outfits lately, here's another formula I loved when I was in my early 20s in the mid-80s: a long blazer over a full skirt.
I used to have a long fitted black satin blazer (Mom and I shared it for a while when I lived at home, c. 1986) from swanky boutique chain Suzy Creamcheese. I always wore it over a full sunflower-printed swooshy yellow skirt that was from Le Chateau. It always made me feel ultra-fashionable.

I wore this vintage Vivienne Westwood Red Label wool blazer open - I only buttoned the "Holy Hand Grenade" buttons when I donned my coat.
The skirt is definitely not staying out for winter - despite an extra half-slip underneath, it tried to crawl up my legs on the way to work.

But I loved the quality of it (even the lining is silk), and it was fun to wear.
She demands no coat and thin nylons or bare legs! Okay, see you in the summer, skirt!

Masked up.
There's a thin pink stripe in the plaid, as well as a steel-grey one, hence the grey and pink, if you were wondering. Matchy!

Outerwear - this is a woman who wants to be warm.
But I was too hot in this! The combination of fur scarf and hat, plus this uber-thick coat had me in a sweat by the time I got home.

It's a lotta ocelot, but isn't the hat a perfect match?
I hope y'all don't mind the extra rear pic of the first wearing of the season for my coats - I like properly showing them off for those who haven't seen them before.

Accoutrements:
The fur beret was kind of weird to wear (as well as being surprisingly warm), as it just sits on my head, with no elastic, anchor or snug fit. I felt nervous about bending over, but it actually stayed put...and it didn't mess my hair up. I won't wear it if it's windy!

  • Fur beret - Import Salon, Eaton's, vintage 60s; purchased here for $25.00
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Leather/cashmere gloves - Club Monaco, consignment
  • Mask - by mom

The stuff:
I can never remember the name of these boots, so I just search "Ally" - I bought these when she was came out to visit me back here in 2018. Aw! That was so fun!

Bronzy bling:
I wore sparkly to match the white skirt, and this awesome All Saints necklace to match the browns.

  • Necklace - All Saints, gift from Dominique
  • Brooch - Eaton's, c. 2001
  • Smoky topaz/silver ring - Anneli Neumann, Sweden, vintage mall
  • Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
  • Earrings - POLY, consignment

  3. Love your skirt! I remember “Suzy Creamcheese”! A very funky and fun boutique, the one I visited was in the swanky Galleria mall in Houston Texas. A new reader here, so wondering where you sourced your cosy “ocelot” coat? Also loved (should say coveted) your alpaca coat of the previous day…alpaca fibre sounds perfect for winter.

    1. I think this might have been a Canadian chain ripping off the US one, Susan. There were two of them in Victoria, one on Yates St and one in Hillside Mall. Their store bag was a black/red/white movie frame still with an Art Deco-ish lady in the frame.

I bought the Unsafe Ocelot at Flavour Upstairs back in....oh, I've lost track! The last occurrence I could find was 2017 so it's been well over 5 years. It was new with tags and was maybe around $30?

  4. That skirt looks so pretty and most unexpected underneath the Unsafe Ocelot.
Our temperatures have dropped today and there's talk of snow in the coming weeks...eeekkkk! xxx

  5. In spite of the skirt not faring well in fall, your outfit looks absolutely brilliant. I'm always surprised at how well pink and grey work together. And oh, hello Unsafe Ocelot, always lovely to see you, and I see you brought company too!
Isn't it lovely that your boots remind you of Ally's visit? I clicked through to the post about her visit, and actually did a double take when I saw that was 4 years ago. I remember that post as if it was yesterday! xxx

  6. I am glad you could layer up the skirt for cooler weather even if the skirt is more suitable for bare legs, it looks great and so cosy here! :)

  7. Checks closet, finds Hilary Radley wool coat bought on consignment years ago, still going strong. Remembers Suzy Creamcheese, too. Sigh. I have found my people.
