Patchwork, Suede and Snow

Lesson learned, I bundled up today, wearing thick layers.

Just some old favourites, nothing new, all remixed from my closet.

  • Sweater - Artisan de Luxe, consignment; last seen here in February for a trip to Sidney with Mom
  • Skirt - Kelco Leather, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in April with dark florals
  • Boots - Matisse, consignment; last seen here in April with chartreuse and blue
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in May

The view from the bedroom last night, as the snow blew down in vigourous gusts.
I was worried I'd have to shovel the sidewalk in the morning, but someone beat me to it (thank you, neighbour!).

My view from the stairs in the morning.
It was still very windy, and the walk to work was treacherous. Fortunately, it cleared up and got sunny by afternoon, and all the snow was gone by the time I walked home. Ugh, it's too early for snow!

The timing wasn't great for our office building's fire drill this afternoon either.
Knowing I'd be clomping around in a hard-hat and high-vis vest at some point, after I'd sat through 3 hours of floor warden training, I dressed for comfort.

This patchwork sweater has random tassels on it.
It's lovely and thick and warm, without being too bulky. I also had a camisole on under this.

The skirt is that gorgeous 70s suede.
It weighs a ton! I wore a vintage half-slip underneath it.

Masked up.
I also had sweater-tights on, but they kept trying to make a break for my knees, so into the bin they went the second I got home.

Outerwear.
My vintage trenchcoat tends to be worn a lot this time of year - it cuts the wind and never absorbs any rain (or snow).

Accoutrements:
Oh, I lied - I spy a new thing! That blue toque was a freebie from the sporty-clothes store we were in on the weekend. I claimed it - I needed a blue toque.

  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Toque - Eddie Bauer
  • Gloves - vintage, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Such good boots. I need to give them a polish.

Minimal bling:
The sweater did most of the heavy lifting.

  • Grey leather cuff - Rimanchik, thrifted
  • Red cuff - Rimanchik
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - Kenneth Cole, thrifted

I'm hopeful that this is it for snow for the year! Brrr!

  1. I hope it is the last of your snow for a while, Sheila! It seems indecently early even if the castle does look pretty.
Always good to see that fabulous suede skirt and leather trench and those boots are some of my favourites. Gah! Tights rage, its worse than velvet rage! xxx

  2. I think the knit and the skirt look so good together! And wow I can't believe you have snow already! Hopefully it's just a little blast of cold and isn't an early start to winter temps for you! You still manage to look so stylish while staying so warm :)

  4. That's an excellent outfit, Sheila, and one of my favourites of your sweaters. And surely nothing can beat 70s suede!
I can't believe the amount of snow you got this early in the year. Glad to hear it was all gone by the time you walked home.
Oh and there's nothing worse that sagging tights! xxx

  6. Snow??? Well, I suppose it is Canada, but you said yourself it is too early. We hardly ever have snow anymore and certainly not before half December.
Your outfit was really good for cold weather. Love the sweater.
But with a fire drill in mind, I would have gone for wool trousers and boots.
