Yellow and Dragonscale Armour

I worked today, which came as a shocker. I've done a few Thursdays here and there since the pandemic started in spring 2020, but it still felt weird.
We had a big company meeting after work, plus visitors from out of town, and a delivery scheduled, so it just made sense to go in.

  • Sweater - Ralph Lauren, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in April with wooly studs
  • Skirt - Strawberry Jill, thrifted, vintage 00s; last worn here in December 2021 with brown bookends
  • Boots - Aldo, thrifted; last seen here with grey Kenzo in September
  • Cape (below) - Dafydd Snowden, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in July

I'll be doing a short day on Friday, and only work for a few hours. I'm okay with that, although I miss our Mom-Day Adventures!
Anyway, outfit. I'd planned on a different yellow sweater (this one, a recent-ish purchase), but it didn't look right with the shape of the skirt, so I swapped to this cotton 80s one.

It's probably too warm out for a wool sweater right now, anyway, although I planned my ensemble for being warm enough to walk home in the dark after our meeting.
The skirt is rather spectacular, isn't it? I'm well-armoured! I always call it my Dragonscale skirt, as each of those "scales" is a circle of silk that's been sewn on individually. It's a crazy amount of work - and would you believe I paid $18.95 for it in 2017?

I was happy to note that everything I'm wearing today is thrifted!
Not the accessories, but all the clothing/boots.

Masked up:
I was a bit nervous around such a big group of 90+ coworkers, many of whom I hadn't seen in nearly 3 years - and everyone knows me, since I'm the office manager. There was a lot of hugging.

Incognito outerwear.
Isn't the cape amazing? Of course, it is Welsh.

Accoutrements:
I didn't need my backpack (which is very bulky under a cape), so I switched to a purse.

  • Purse - Ted Lapidus, vintage 90s, vintage fair
  • Scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Not shown: mask - by Mom

I lost the mask after I left the hotel where the meeting was - it was my "fall trees" scene one. I had it when I left the hotel, but must have dropped it on the walk home.

The stuff:
Walkin' boots, for all that walkin'.

Brass bling:
I wore my heart pin over the RLL logo on the sweater - I had several colleagues tell me I should have worn it on my sleeve (har har, never heard that before).

  • Brass/copper cuff - Karen's
  • Brass/leather cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Brutalist rings - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Earrings - LA Express, vintage 90s
  • Leather brooch - Smoking Lily

I had my gold Biko earrings on for the pictures, but they didn't feel right, so I switched to these "homegrown vintage" earrings that I bought in the mid-90s.

  3. Perhaps just occasional workday Thursdays… I would have had butterflies of anticipation (both the positive aspects and the not so positive) at reuniting with so many people! Sounds like it went well. Surely the yellow top and dragonscale skirt did their part, along with the jewelry, in providing inner sustenance.

Hello Helen! Even though it wasn’t a Mom Day Adventure it feels like you were together in spirit!

    Cheers, Laurie

  5. That must have been a shock to the system, Sheila, although I'm sure all was redeemed by seeing lots of co-workers again. And hugging, obviously!
Your outfit couldn't have been more perfect, and it certainly cheered me up no end. I'm sure your fabulous Dragonscale skirt must have had many admirers. And I'm always thrilled to see one of your swoon-worthy Welsh wool capes, which are still one of my holy grails. xxx

  6. It's a shame you lost your mask on the way home but this was a great outfit and it must have been nice being able to see everyone in person again! Our company has gone from strongly suggesting we start returning to the office to warning us if more of us don't turn up they are going to mandate in-office days, ha! I really should try get in more often, but with my team spread across multiple states and countries it's not like everyone would be there if I did go into the office!

  7. Fabulous outfit! The Dragonscale skirt is always amazing; I look forward to seeing it every fall! (And it looks great on you) Glad the grand work gathering was good and not overwhelming. So sorry you lost your “fall trees” mask; that’s a bummer. It was a lovely one. ~ReaderRita

  8. I'm sure it was odd after so long. My first conference a few weeks ago felt like stepping into an alternate universe - when it was what should be the norm. You looked fabulous. The skirt and cape are two of my favorites.

  10. I love the skirt! I still can't get my head around the fact that the year 2000 was so long ago, despite knowing that was the year I started high school!
