Bronze Velvet Rage, and Eclipse Coat Debut

Today's outfit did not go as planned, and you'd think I would have learned by now, but hope springs eternal for me when it comes to velvet.

I absolutely loathed wearing this shirt today (as if the post title didn't give it away).
VELVET RAGE!

  • Shirt - Frame, consignment; purchased here for $21.00
  • Skirt - Max Mara, consignment; last seen here in October 2021 with a plaid oversized blazer
  • Shoes - Go Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last worn here in September with palm trees
  • Eclipse Coat (below) - Welsh, consignment; purchased here for $157.50

I've been saving this lovely bronze velvet rock-star shirt since I bought it in July, with visions of striding about like a badass in it.
I planned to wear a black blazer with this, but the second I tried to put the blazer on, I was stymied by the velvet-velcro. No blazer.

I actually really liked this outfit, aside from the whole Velvet Rage thing.
If I could find this exact shirt in the same colour/metallic but NOT velvet, I would buy it.

But I fussed with it all day, to the point where I could not wait to get home and take it off.
My coworker Ngoc admired it. "Do you want it?" I asked, "It causes Velvet Rage - don't say I didn't warn you!" I hope it works out better for her!

Masked up.
Only a few days left to wear all my spooky things, but I plan to keep on wearing them - it's not like I'm going to be ticketed for wearing skulls or anatomical hearts after Hallowe'en.

Outerwear - in much happier news, today is also the debut of the Eclipse Coat, as I decided to name it. Ta-dah!
It doesn't have a full brand label, but I know it's Welsh, and I know this pattern is called Eclipse.

It fits like a dream (even with some Velvet Rage issues in the arm regions). I liked the big pockets.
I got soaked on the way home and it's drying out now, redolent of that nice wet wool smell.

Accoutrements:
I should have worn a toque! It was sunny this morning - I should really pay better attention to the actual forecast.

  • Scarf - Metrowear, San Francisco, 2006
  • Leather gloves - consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
My shoes had many fans. These have been a good purchase.

Gold and black bling:
"I like your necklace," said coworker Ron. "Yup, I've got balls," I cackled.

  • Necklace - consignment; purchased here for $40.50
  • Brutalist rings - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Flower brooch - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Earrings - Sidney

  1. Rage, rage, rage against the velvet
Do not succumb to the Velcro’s pull
To co-worker Ngoc it will go
    Experience is the best teacher
    :)

Spiffy shoes and, regardless of the velvet rage, spiffy looking outfit, though a truly super outfit feels as good to wear as it looks.

    Cheers,
    Laurie

  5. This outfit is a real stunner, Sheila, but I am so hearing you on the velvet rage! Such a shame though, as that blouse really looks fantastic. But life's too short for misbehaving clothes, so away it goes to your colleague ... Swooning over your necklace too, and ah, that coat is absolutely sublime! xxx

  7. Pretty outfit! You styled it beautifully.
Even the mask looks stylish and coordinates well with your OOTD!
I especially love the appearance of that gorgeous Max Mara skirt!!!

  8. In spite of the argument, you had with the velvet, I do love the outfit. Velvet crawls and that causes problems when sewing also. Like a caterpillars is reaches and crawls along its fibers.

  9. I've never heard of "velvet rage" but, of course, you're clear about it.

  10. I too suffer the velvet rage from time to time. Sometimes you can tell why it was donated. The coat is fab!
I'll keep wearing skulls year round but I reluctantly let the pumpkins and ghosts retire for the year.

  12. It's such a shame that this top was a pain to wear as it's beautiful and looks so good on you! I really like it with the red! Hopefully it works better for your colleague :) And it's good the coat redeemed this outfit for you - it really is so perfect for your cooler weather!
