Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Long Blue and Bye Silver Flashback; Purple Brunch and Wee Shop; Book Club in Chartreuse

Hello, I'm back and it's been a wild ride of a weekend. Please grab yourself a beverage and settle in - we have loads of outfits, including a Flashback.

Friday's work outfit - I worked the morning, and then went home to take Vizzini to the vet for a blood pressure check-up.
I won't keep you in suspense - the meds are working and his blood pressure is down. We'll need to have him checked again in 6 months, but for now, he's doing fine. Good news!

  • Cardigan - Ports, vintage 80s, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) for Book Club in May
  • Dress - Zara, consignment; purchased here for $57.99
  • Boots - Teleport; last seen here in December 2021 with cashmere and lame (lah-MAY!)

I also won't keep you on tenterhooks over this new-to-me white dress. I'm not keeping it.
My colleague Nour is getting it! Off to a good home.

It's just too freaking annoying to style. This was the best I could do!
I didn't even bother taking a picture of the dress solo - it doesn't look great like that, and isn't cut/tailored right for belting.

The cardigan is 100% wool (still thankfully moth-free, after all these years!) and it's amazing.
You can have a peek at its Flashback here if you're so inclined.

Masked up.
I'm posing the heck out of the dress, and tried very hard to make it work. I did love the swooshy bottom half.

Incognito.
I had to go back to work for an hour in the late afternoon to finish up my VPs' timesheet approvals. I wore my house jeans, Geox shoes and this cardi over a t-shirt - I wore that to the vet as well. No pics - it was a less-than-impressive outfit.

Accoutrements:
Even YSL couldn't save this outfit (but he tried).

  • Scarf - Yves Saint Laurent, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Mask - by Cat

The stuff:
And these boots are done with me too. I wore them...enough, but I don't love them. The heel is too high, and I just didn't reach for them at all this past 6 months. I haven't worn them since last December! We'll have a little Flashback below on the few outfits they were featured in.

Green and blue bling:
I worked the accessories hard too!

  • Silver/gold cuff - JPL, vintage fair
  • Malachite/silver bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Silver/lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - local

Flashback: Teleport Lace-up Ankle Boots

I did a little shop on my way to meet up with my old friend Tammy for dinner, way back in November 2020, here when I purchased them for $75.00 at Reunion Boutique, which closed shortly afterward, a casualty of the pandemic.
I fell hard for the shiny silver leather.
I love the idea more than the actual boots themselves...that ankle-high style is tricky on me - it's a little leg-stumpifying.

I wore them right away in November 2020.
I like the boots with the patterned nylons, but this dress is doing the heavy lifting. I think I gave it away?

This was for a Zoom call in December 2020 - the boots went so well with this fabulous vintage dress.
Maybe I just need a good pair of silver dressy shoes...

Another Zoom call, in January 2021.
I'm showing off my lumber socks - so classy.

I loathed this outfit from March 2021.
Now the only thing left from it is the sparkly tee.

Skip ahead to September 2021.
Yeah, I can see this outfit with different boots easily.

Paired with my PANK dress in November 2011.
This is probably my favourite of all the outfits with the boots, mostly because I freaking love that dress!

And here's the last time I wore the boots, in December 2021.
Yeah, no. That does not work for me. I didn't keep that top, by the way.

Mathy stuff: Including today's outfit, I did wear the boots 8 times, which comes to $9.38 per wear. I'm totally fine with that, and happily will let them go to the great giveaway pile.

Back to outfits! After work on Friday, L and I were exhausted but stayed up playing card games, just to have some "us time" together. We indulged in a sleep in on Saturday morning (and a nap in the afternoon), then headed to the Ruby to meet up with out-of-towner pal Kelly for brunch.
Time to wear my groovy new-to-me sweatshirt!

  • Sweatshirt - The Kooples, thrifted; purchased here for $14.95
  • Skirt - Sonia Rykiel, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in May with a purple popcorn top
  • Shoes - Miista; last seen here in July for a Mental Health Shop

After brunch, I did a wee shop, visiting all my old favourite second-hand and vintage shops downtown.
It was hoppin' - there were loads of tourists still in town.

I have a camisole on under my sweatshirt, for smoothing and a bit of warmth.
The skirt is a deep indigo-purple-navy colour and it's a kitteny-soft velour. Velour! So KLASSY!

Oops, should have pulled the bottom of the top down a bit in the back.
Ah well, whatever.

Masked up.
I went with a purple theme.

Incognito.
I roamed all over, but didn't have much luck in my treasure hunting.

Alas!
I only wore my scarf like this for the drive to town. The rest of the day it was tied to my purse.

Accoutrements:
My leather Roots purse is just right for shopping.

  • Purse - Roots, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Fluevog
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Hello to the lovely person in Folk boutique - we had a laugh over my "trout"-coloured shoes. I've had these forever (Flashback here, although I've worn them a bunch since then).

Simple bling:
My snake earrings matched the snakes in the print on the sweatshirt.

  • Cuff - Rimanchik, thrifted
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Earrings - Betsey Johnson, gift from L

The only shop I had any luck in was Vintage After Death, where I found a couple of pretties.
I have a small collection of fur rose brooches, but I didn't have a red/black one! It was $12.00.

I am always on the lookout for vintage nylon slips, half-slips and camisoles.
They wear like iron, and it's testament to the quality of these garments that they are still in such good shape after many, many decade of wear and washing (machine wash, tumble dry!).

This one has a CA number, which means it's after 1972ish.
This half-slip is by Pink Lady.

"Slip into the sea" says the tag.
This was half price, at $16.00. The stains will disappear in the wash.

I also found this lovely mustard yellow blouse - I already have a mustard blouse (this one), but one of my mottos is Always Be Upgrading.
The old blouse is H&M and is crap quality (gross polyester fabric). This one has a lovely bit of pleating down the front, with a covered placket for the buttons.

It's by "Lady Manhattan" and although it's also polyester, it's a gloriously slinky, silk-feeling fabric. It's made in Taiwan, and as we can see it's also got a CA number, so it's no earlier than 1972. I love the tag description: "Lady of the day, roaming Central Park, aimlessly..." It was $38.00.
I actually discovered that - while my blouse is by Lady Manhattan of Canada (on Spadina Ave in Toronto, back in the day!), the company started as the Manhattan Shirt Company in 1857 - they went on to manufacture for brands like Perry Ellis. The Lady Manhattan line started in the mid-50s (source here, link 'cause I love). This style is very much late 70s/early 80s - I wore blouses like this as a teen in grade 9-10!

We had Chris, Ali and Kelly over on Saturday night for a rousing game of Arkham Horror (much hilarity ensued), but I was up bright and early on Sunday to get ready for Book Club.
Sneaking in a wearing of my chartreuse green silk dress before the weather gets chilly!

  • Dress - Mary Jo Bruno, vintage 90s consignment; last worn here in August 2021 for brunch
  • Boots - Official Sabado, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) in June for Winesday

I sat before taking my pictures, so my lap is full of wrinkles.
I wasn't sure how warm it would be, so layered a cami, nylons and wee sport shorts under this, plus the boots.

I walked to our restaurant (Nourish, so good) where we had brunch.
And walked home with Yvonne and Cat.

In case you're interested, the book we discussed was “Son of Elsewhere” by Elamin Abdelmahmoud - it was Yvonne's pic.
I picked the next book, and gave out my copies after we'd discussed the last book.

Masked up - I forgot my mask at home, d'oh!
In our Book Club, when it's your turn to pick, you select the book and buy all the copies - it's secret, and very exciting (and stressful!) to present.

My pick is "A Woman of No Importance" by Sonia Purnell (Goodreads link here).
Incognito mode.

Accoutrements:
Fortunately, I didn't really need the mask as we waited outside, and the restaurant was spacious.

  • Hat - Zara, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
It was a bit too warm for these boots, but I was reminded how much I freaking love them.

Gold bling:
Armoured up! Our server at Nourish was impressed by all my accessories.

  • Belt - vintage 90s, vintage shop
  • Shark cuff - Tom Binns, 2012, consignment
  • Necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Black ring - Sidney
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Earrings - Biko, consignment

Well, there you go. I'm off now to sit on the couch and watch football with my two guys (one human, one feline).

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Thank you so much for swinging by!

  3. Such good news about Vizzini! And I'm surprised you only ended up with a few items from your thrift hauls - but given that you get so lucky so regularly I guess there will always be days you don't score lots. i do like that mustard blouse though. It's a shame the white dress and silver boots aren't for you, but it's fun you gave them a try, and I think you did great justice to the boots! :)

  4. Glad Vizzini is doing well!

Shame about the dress but we all make the wrong choices sometimes. I loved your silver boots and thought they looked best with coloured/patterned tights. Fab chartreuse slinky dress - how very glamorous you looked. I love books and reading but isn't it funny the thought of a book club doesn't appeal to me at all - weird!

Have a great week and may Vizzini continue to improve.

  5. Good news for Vizzinni. I think it's cool you try versions of outfits, but easily part with items you decide aren't working. I have too many things cluttering my closet that's don't work.

  6. Hip hip hooray for Vizzini and the miracle of modern medicine! And yay for you and L to see Vizzini’s health return to balance.

You’ve read my comments enough that perhaps you remember how much I like the color of your sweater and how flattering I think it is on you. (It’s among my preferred colors to wear. :))

As for pieces of clothing that do not work…I have a small closet and, particularly after retiring from teaching, if a piece is uncomfortable or not being worn (despite giving it an outing at least once) then off it goes to the donation pile for someone else to enjoy.

I quite like your book club outfit and the belt is fantastic! While I’d likely not be daring enough to buy or wear one like it, I appreciate its coolness factor and how perfectly it works for utility and style.

    Cheers from New York, Laurie

  7. PPS I just reserved A Woman of No Importance. You might like Looking for Trouble by Virginia Cowles. She was a society reporter turned foreign correspondent and the book is her fascinating memoir of covering the civil war in Spain through the entry of England into WWII. Her descriptions and impressions added a human aspect to the many books I have read about this period.

  8. So glad to read the good news about Vizzini!
Hearing you on the Zara dress and the silver boots, which would be too high for me too. In fact, I find I'm having to get rid of most of my heels :-( They did look fantastic with the PANK dress an floral tights though!
Well done on finding the half slip - such a useful colour too - and the upgraded mustard blouse.
You're rocking the Book Club outfit. That chartreuse dress looks fantastic worn with the boots, hat and gold bling!
I think I saw A Woman of No Importance in a charity shop a while ago. I'll make sure to pick it up if it's still there. xxx

  9. SO happy about the fur baby. Mine is complaining to me right now. I like the silver boots, they would be great donated to a theater department.

  11. I'm sorry to see the silver boots go - I thought they looked great with whatever outfit you paired them with. I agree that the heels are rather high, but they are pretty awesome. I'm glad you continue to get good news about your sweet kitty.

  12. Those silver boots are amazing but those heels do look high! Then again, I can't do heels! The "trout" shoes are stunning! I would have called them oilslick but trout is funnier!

  13. Totally understand that feeling when something is hard to style, we have massive wardrobes to enjoy!. And those boots have been amazingly versatile, I think that silver shoes are Great!
Lovely to see the fab Official Sabado boots, and so fab bling with your chartreuse dress.
    besos
