Twlo-Fer: Mental Health Shop in Pink, and Sailor Pants at the Pub

Mom called this morning and cancelled our Mom-Day Adventure - nothing serious, but she wasn't feeling up to more exertion than what she's already done this week. Take care of yourself, Mom! Get some rest (PS - Dr. Sheila prescribes chocolate.).

Instead, I headed down to Oak Bay Ave to visit some of my favourite consignment shops, as my recent income tax refund was burning a hole in my pocket.
I started with the shoes, then added a Jammy dress and a light blazer for sun coverage.

  • Jacket - Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in May 2021 with baggy pants and leopard
  • Dress - InWear; last seen here in May 2021 with this same belt
  • Shoes - Miista; last worn here on my last solo Oak Bay shopping trip, in April

I've got pockets!
The weather was completely erratic.

We had sun, heat, chill, wind and even rain in a 3-hour period.
I dressed for anything. I even have nylons on.

I swooshed about.
I'm always happy in pink.

Masked up.
Plus a scarf for warmth (which I needed).

Incognito.
Time to go!

Accoutrements:
Silk scarves are magic.

  • Leather purse - Zara, consignment; purchased here for $19.00
  • Scarf - Ed Hardy by Christian Audigier, vintage 90s/early 00s, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Even with my comfiest shopping shoes, my feet were dog-tired by the time I got home.

Silvered bling:
I don't usually wear many accessories when I shop, but they didn't get in the way.

  • Mesh bracelet - Stella & Dot, thrifted
  • Multi-stone/silver bracelet - Salt Spring Island, gift from L
  • Lobster brooch - Bermuda, Mom's
  • Silver earrings - gift from Petra
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

The lobster brooch got a lot of love!

Ready to see what I found? I started at Good Things Consignment Vintage, where I found a velvet bracelet display.
The base is a heart and it's very sturdy. My bangles and cuffs have been overflowing so I'm excited to set up some of my bracelets on here. It was $8.00. I'll take a pic of it once I've got it set up.

I also found this square ring, marked down to $20.00.
The stone looks like malachite to me, and I'm pretty sure that's silver, although there are no marks on it anywhere. I like it, so that's all that matters.

From there, I went to House of Savoy, where I enjoyed a nice browse. I found this lovely vintage silk scarf.
I know, I've been on a scarf binge lately, but I wear one every day! Isn't this pattern groovy? I'm sure it's from the 60s. I'll have to wear it while driving in Vlad the Jag, as I'll match the paintjob.

The brand is La Dear - love the hand-rolled edges and the thick silk.
It was $24.00.

I tried a few things on, but nothing was grabbing me. I am not really drawn to summer clothes - bring on the fall!
I did fall hard for this 100% cotton striped knit top.

It's by Marimekko - made in Finland! Note how the stripes are knit, not printed.
It was $42.00, and originally retailed for $130.00.

From House of Savoy, I crossed the avenue to Turnabout where I spotted this bracelet in the case the second I walked in the door.
Yes, those are teeth! It's a shark's jaw!

It must be cast from an actual shark jaw - the inside detail has more teeth!
I've never seen anything like this before. I had to have it!

This was my splurge at $179.99, but I don't mind spending a bit on good quality jewelry.
It's stamped Tom Binns, who I'd never heard of.  It is the Shark Cuff from his 2012 collection, and sold for $290.00 (slideshow here of that collection, all links 'cause I love). Article from the NY Times here from 2017 explains his rise and fall (Michelle Obama wore some of his creations).

I love the rust colour of these swooshy palazzo pants.
Nice wide legs.

They have generous pockets.
The back of the waistband is elasticated - they pull on.

They're by BCBG Max Azria and were $39.99.
I modeled them for the staff...

…while I was wearing this funky orange snakeskin printed top.
Which I obviously bought! It has a five-button placket and caftan style sleeves.

See?
I'm not a big fan of that light/white-ish back of the groovy snakeskin.

But I am a fan of Roberto Cavalli.
And this is his Just Cavalli line.

This top was at Turnabout when I bought my Cavalli dress (this one), but I couldn't afford the original price of $89.99.
But it was marked down to $27.00, so yes, of course, it had to come home with me.

This dress made me giggle with glee. I wonder who it's by?? Three stripes...hmm.
It's just so crazy. It's a long nylon top with three rows of ruffles on the bottom. The front section is open, below the first ruffle row. It's a mullet skirt!

Of course, it is Adidas. I grew up with Adidas - everyone in my elementary school had an Adidas bag! I had this one (here), but I really wanted the navy on light blue one (the most popular girl had that one).
This dress was $69.99 but when a piece calls to me, I have to answer! It originally retailed for $180.00 (and you can see it on the model on their website here). I can't wait to wear it!

I hemmed and hawed over this dark red leather skit - it is a wee bit snug on me (but I'm working on it!).
It's lambskin leather, fully lined.

A lovely zip in the back.
It's by Hugo Boss, a Classy brand.

This is called the Selrita Ruby Leather skirt and it retailed for $595.00 (and Meghan Markle wore it in 2019, post here).
I knew it would have been very pricey, which is why I bit - it was marked down to $60.00 from $149.99.

Flush from Shopping Victory (hooray!), I got ready to head to town with L to meet up with Nick and some of our pals at the Garrick's Head Pub.
Nick's been on the east coast visiting his folks for a few weeks, and we've missed him.

  • Top - Christian Siriano, thrifted; purchased here for $12.95
  • Pants - Jean's by Jean Paul Gaultier, vintage 90s, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here five different ways in June 2021
  • Shoes - Down to Earth Hadfield, Fluevog; last seen here (look #4) with these pants in June 2021
  • Blazer (below) - InWear; last worn here last weekend over my sparkly jumpsuit

Cat, Ross, Casey and Carolyn were there when we arrived.
We spent a raucous two hours catching up.

First wearing of this new-to-me blouse - it's definitely nice quality and felt wonderful to wear.
Not 100% that this is my style, but I like to try things.

Even if I only get a few wearings out of it, I paid $12.95 for it, and I'll move it on to a good home.
The sailor pants are my fabulous Jean's [a deliberate spelling that makes my grammar muscle ache] by Jean Paul Gaultier. Vintage 90s, baby!

Do check out the last time I wore them (here), where I styled them 5 different ways.
You can appreciate the details, which are mostly hidden here, including the 10 copper snaps and the laces up the back.

The stuff:
It was good to wear these shoes again - I was reminded how comfy they are! I have worn them over 35 times for a reason.

  • Scarf - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

I also wear this scarf with them frequently, as they are the same leather as my strappy wooden-soled sandals I just wore here on Monday.

Bold bling:
First wearing of the orange bangle - it was excellent!

  • Amber/sandalwood choker - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Brown bangles - vintage, Lazy Susan's
  • Orange bangle - consignment, Sidney; purchased here for $18.00
  • Copper cuff - Karen's
  • Copper earrings - Glee (local)

We got home late and crashed. I think Vizzini has the right idea.
"Sleeping. Go away."

I could use a nap. We have a busy weekend ahead.
"Oh, joy."

And now, I'm off for the weekend, and I wish you all a fine time, full of good people (or not, you do you). I'll be back on...maybe...Sunday (but it might be Monday) with tales of adventure. Thank you all so much for visiting, for your comments (hi, Trisha!!) and for being such awesome folks.

  2. I'm sorry your Mom wasn't up to your usual Mom Day adventure this week, but going on a shopping spree sounds like the perfect alternative!
Love the pink dress and the belt is just perfect with it, so why break the habit. I always marvel at how well pink and grey go together.
The bracelet display thingy would come in handy for my bangles, and I'm loving the ring, the funky scarf, the Marimekko striped top, the rust colour palazzo pants and the dark red leather skirt. You've done well! I'll be making up my mind about the Adidas dress when you've styled it.
Always lovely to see those awesome JP Gaultier sailor style jeans, and the white broderie anglaise top is exactly the kind of thing I've been on the lookout for!
Have a lovely weekend Sheila! xxx

Thank you so much - I know, the Adidas dress is WEIRD, but I love it. Thanks!

    1. She is fine, thank you, Kim. She has Post-Polio Syndrome from having had polio as a child. It causes withering in her muscles, and tiredness is a big symptom of it - she runs out of energy quickly.

  4. I really like how you coordinate your accessories - that pretty beaded belt and the metallic shoes and the floral scarf and floral shoes are just such perfect pairings! You bought some really nice things too, I just can't pick a favourite! Hope your mum feels better soon after resting up!

  5. Glad your mom is doing fine, just getting some rest. You certainly found some great things in the shops. The shark bracelet is completely bonkers-I love it! That seems like a bargain for a piece by an established artist.

I love your outfits...and fantastic purchases. Wow!
P.S sorry I haven't been around. I've been working overtime since May.

  11. Some really pretty finds! After balancing my checkbook, I decided to really be careful the next two months. Even charity shopping adds up! So I am shopping my closet and trying to stay focused. I love that pink, I have a blouse in that color and it always gets compliments.

    1. I agree, Mireille - I am fortunate enough to have a bit of spending money to indulge my shopping habits. I really don't spend money on anything else, other than groceries!

I'm a big fan of that pink too! It's so cheery.
