Twisted Cowgirl

This week is a little discombobulated - it feels like they all are lately - as I had to jumble my work schedule around an upcoming vet appointment. Is is only Wednesday? It feels like it should be at least Thursday...

I needed comfort from some of my favourite things today.
I've been doing "cowgirl" as a look for well over a decade.

  • Vest - Maison Scotch, Bohemian Chique, 2010, thrifted; last seen here in October 2021 over dark florals
  • Shirt - Abbie Mags, thrifted; purchased here for $7.95
  • Skirt - Vivienne Westwood Anglomania F/W 2011, consignment; last worn here for brunch in May
  • Boots - 1883 Luchesse, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) in July for Book Club

I like it when a new-to-me piece like this shirt fits into my cowgirl style.
Nothing like a red plaid shirt to go with my red cowboy boots.

I knew I wanted to pair this shirt with my Vivienne Westwood skirt - more plaid!
I didn't quite get the skirt right today, however.

It has these twisted loops and sections...
Ooops! That's some exposed leg right there. Good thing I wore a half-slip underneath.

Masked up.
I also like button-up shirts because they allow me to wear my bolo tie (in addition to menswear ties).

Incognito.
The temps have dropped down to the high teens - I still don't need a jacket yet. Famous last words!

Accoutrements:
Halston sounds like a cowboy name, doesn't it? "Halston, go rustle up some cows and then cook me some beans!"

  • Silk scarf - Halston, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
My old favourite boots, easily worn 65+ times now - I've had them since 2014.

Cowgirl bling:
I think the two cowboys on the buckle have eyes for each other, not the woman in the middle.

  • Belt - Leather World
  • Buckle - Shi Studio, local
  • Bolo - Shi Studio, thrifted
  • Earrings - consignment
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver/enamel ring - Antique store, Sidney

  1. The cowgirl and her trusty four-paw. :) Hoping the outcome of the vet appointment is positive and Vizzini continues to improve so he can resume his stalking on the range.

And by the time you see this comment it will at least be Thursday, so there you go. :)
    Cheers, Laurie

  5. I'm hearing you on those discombobulated weeks, Sheila. I'm only back at work since yesterday and it already feels like I've worked a full week. In fact, it was only when I was reading your post when I realized tomorrow is only Friday (for me) and I have to go in to work another day!
You're doing the cowgirl look so well, but I don't blame you for not getting that skirt quite right. Half slips to the rescue! xxx

  6. Love this cowboy inspired look Sheila! That skirt is beautiful! I'm struggling to find anything in my wardrobe that could meet the Western trend for an upcoming blog challenge - you have so many great pieces to have been able to pull together an outfit like this! I've been try to steal my sister's Western inspired belt but she only has the one and is wearing it almost every day, haha!

  7. This time it doesn't tickly my fancy. But you cannot please me all the time, now can you? And you have used the word discombobulated for which I thank you. Love that word.
