Sunshine Skirt and Roses

The last day or two has been rough - Vizzini's eyesight suddenly went back to mostly-blind again, so once more we (him and us) have gone through the distress of it.
I'm trying to keep myself together through colour. I needed sunshine today.

  • Sweater - Talbots, consignment, Powell River; first seen here in May with rosy suede
  • Skirt - Mister Leonard, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in July 2021 with zebra and dots
  • Shoes - Effortless Bebe, Fluevog; last seen here in June with cobalt and silk palazzo pants

We're still very lucky and fortunate for so many things. I live only a few blocks away from this castle, for one thing.
And our wee family unit is all healthy otherwise. Life may not be sunshine and roses every day, but it's pretty darned close.

I wore my sunshine yellow skirt for the first time this season (so many clothes, so little time!).
And was reminded how much better I feel when I wear bright colours.

Must do this more often.
It was chillier in the morning, so a nylon vintage cami plus this fine merino wool sweater were excellent.

It has such good fall colours.
The tips of our maple trees are starting to turn that bright yellow.

Masked up.
More matchy with the roses on my sweater.

Incognito.
I didn't need the scarf - I was sweating on the walk home.

Accoutrements:
Comforting things.

The stuff:
I usually pack these shoes away for fall/winter - this is likely the last wearing of them.

Minimal bling:
I paid $2.00 for this cuff close to 10 years ago - it still doesn't have a scratch on it.

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - Betsey Johnson, gift from L
  • Pivot ring - consignment
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall

I had a good look at all the pomp and ceremony around the Queen's funeral today - it was far too early west-coast-time to watch it - and had a wee cry over it all.

  1. Very nice Skirt Sheila, love the double Splits at the back, not sure if you have mentioned it, but is it fully lined from top to bottom?

  2. May this simply be a blip, a minor setback for Vizzini, with some amount of vision to return step by step.

Kudos to you for doing what you know how to do, which is use color and clothing to cheer your spirits! Sending hugs.

    Cheers, Lauris

    2. Thank you, Laurie, it's been a rollercoaster of emotion for us as he was really doing well, and then...back to zero. Thank you, my dear! Big hugs to you.

  6. Oh no Sheila! Poor little guy, hopefully it's just a temporary setback :-(
Life can't always be sunshine and roses, but it helps if you're wearing them! I can't even begin to imagine our distress and I'm applauding you for putting on a brave face.
We've gone from Summer to Autumn within a day, and I'm still getting used to the difference in temperature. It's getting seriously chilly in the mornings as well, and I'm finding it hard to decide on outfits. I don't want to get started on my A/W wardrobe too soon ...
Sending the biggest of virtual hugs, my dear friend xxx

  8. I like the bright colours, although I'm so sad to hear about Vizzini! I really hope that the colour therapy helped a bit, and that this is just a short term blip and things continue to go back to improving with him!

  11. That's unfortunate about Vizzini's vision setback - I can imagine how stressful that must be for you. Hope this is just a temporary setback.

  12. I remember when there was more of that metal rose jewellery around, I have always been a fan of it but never got a piece!
