Funky Friday: Stripes and Tropical Print

Hello, my friends! Today's outfit was created with the express purpose of having a striped outfit for Shelbee's (link*) and Nancy's (link) "Good Buy/Good-Bye" post, coming up in a couple of weeks. So if you're here from that, thank you for visiting and welcome!
*all links 'cause I love!

I pulled this outfit from the line-up of semi-created looks I put together last week (a lovely mental health exercise), when I remembered that the Stripes Theme was coming up. I whiffed on the Tie-Dye Theme (I don't own a single piece of tie-dye), so I thought I ought to make an effort this time.
I planned this look around the trousers, which are delightfully stripe-y.

  • Blouse - Scotch & Soda, vintage store, Vancouver; last seen here in August 2020 with a black leather mini (Flashback there)
  • Trousers - INC, thrifted; last worn here in May 2020 for a Zoom call
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) for brunch and shopping in a bubble dress in June
  • Panthers jacket (below) - NFL Shop; last worn here in June

I've had these pants for 3 years, but have only worn them four times including today. They're extremely comfy - pull-on! - but lack pockets (grrr). However, I will forgive them, as I love the flared hems, and how the stripes are lined up properly on both legs and seams!

Now that flare/wide legs are a "thing" again in fashion, I might keep these out for fall/winter to get more wear out of them, although this stripe screams "summer" to me.
I've always worn them with solid colours due to the black and white stripes, but why not experiment?

When I realized that this top had black and white striping around the neck, a little lightbulb in my head went off. *boop*
The digital print on the front has a flamingo, water lilies and a couple of big fish (my hand is hiding the orange one there).

The back is nearly sheer - it has wee dots and stars and is a very pale pink.
I'm wearing my newest camisole (by Kayser), purchased here for $2.95. I don't track my camis, so it will no doubt go down to pennies per wear over the years.

Masked up - this teal and gold one worked nicely.
I felt very funky in this outfit, even though I didn't really see anyone until my workday was over.

  • Mask - by Mom

Outerwear - we're back to our normal summer temps, in the high-teens to low 20s. Ah, it feels nice to wear a jacket again!
I have a lot of jackets - I'm a bit of a jacket/coat junkie.

I liked the bookends of aqua in the stripes (more stripes!) on the sleeves and cuffs with the shoes, And this sporty look went with the more casual vibe of the trousers. I'm not sure where this look fits in my Style Profile...Funky? Graphic?
After work, I met up with L, Spence, Nick, Greg and Arnold at the Garrick's Head Pub (Laurie and Ally, you've both been there with me). I had dinner and hung out for a bit, and then went home to watch more Olympics (yay for our gold-medal winning women's soccer/football team!) and chill with Vizzini. I tried to take a picture with him in the morning, but he was being very squirmy.

The stuff:
These have easily been my best Fluevog purchase of all of them (and I've bought a lot). In addition to the FIFTY times I showed them in the Flashback (here, enjoy!), I have worn them 5 more times since then. I'm aiming for 100 wears! Only 45 outfits to go, hee hee.

Simple bling:
I liked how Mom's ring went with the print (green/pink). It's so pretty - I thought about Mom all day, whenever I looked at it.

  • Cuff - vintage fair
  • Olivine/coral ring - Honolulu, Hawaii, c. 1977, Mom's
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - consignment

The bigass earrings were a bit of a pain with my mask. How we suffer for fashion! [dramatic swoon]

A very happy weekend to all of you - thank you so much for stopping by!

  1. I love these pants on you! And I like the print mix :) I was looking at an older post trying to find a particular outfit combination and stumbled across my old flared jeans. I miss them now they are all trendy again! But let go of them when it became clear that after 2 babies achieving my pre-baby waist to squeeze into them wasn't gonna happen, ha! Being petite it's hard to find ones that are the right length too, they were a sad pair to part with!

    1. Thanks, Mica! I think you should put flared jeans back on your wish-list and start keeping your eyes peeled in the op-shops! They are out there - I know you can find a new pair that is even better than your old ones.

  2. Good afternoon Sheila, I would put this outfit in as funky ! What a combo. My eye was drawn straight to the neckline of your top matching the stripe in the trousers - clever. The jacket goes perfectly. I love blue as you know so those shoes are gorgeous and one of my favorite rings of yours is there too. I love how wearing our mum or in my case grandma's jewelry makes us think of them. I hear you on the hoop earrings and masks. Have a great week - end and we too are enjoying the Olympics. Take care Shazxx

    1. Thanks so much, Shaz! I really enjoyed wearing this outfit - glad you approve! :) I love the shoes (and that ring) as well. Isn't it nice to wear pieces and remember their previous owners? It means a lot to me to have all these family pieces, plus ones from my friends, like Karen.

  3. I agree with Anonymous, this is a funky outfit, and makes me think of fun! To my eye the jacket pulls the outfit together and I expect no less than colors that match and blend well together. ;-) Also like your top, particularly that the front and back are different; nice that the designed didn't opt for a plain back.

Definitely could see these pants in the fall with a bulky cropped sweater in some vibrant color. As always, will look forward to seeing how you wind up styling them. I have recently come to realize that I like the challenge of thinking about how to style items of yours that you haven't yet styled! I remember the Garrick's Head Pub! That's where we went for lunch with you and the food was delicious!

    Here's to a marvelous weekend!

    1. I'm definitely putting the "fun" in "funky", Laurie! The jacket was a last-minute addition, so I'm happy it worked out and got your approval! I know - I hate it when designers ignore the backside of a garment!

I agree, I think that would look very funky and cozy too. I love the game of coming up with new ways to wear things. Yes, we sat out on the patio! I had the exact same meal as I had with you (the Blue Moon Chicken Burger with half fries/half salad), ha ha!

Hope you and Fred had a good weekend too!

    2. Slow weekend for us as Fred was still recouping from jet lag. This week things are starting to get busy in a good way (seeing family and friends.) Thought you'd smile to know that when I saw my brother, his family and my cousin's daughter for lunch today, someone noted they like the matching of my blue earrings to my outfit. And my reply: Of course, matchy matchy. (You are rubbing off on me! ;-))

    3. Oh, poor Fred! That sounds wonderful - I'll be hanging out with Mom tomorrow for the day. I love that your family noticed your matchy-matchy! Well done, Laurie!

  4. Yay to flares/wide leg trousers being a thing again! I'm loving those striped trousers, and think they will work as well in your Autumn/Winter wardrobe as your Spring/Summer one. Clever thinking in matching your top's neckline to the trousers! Bookending in aqua and, of course, wearing those groovy shoes, make for one funky outfit, which means I totally agree with Shazz and Laurie! xxx

    1. I'm very much over skinny pants now, Ann, so bring on the flares and wide legs! They make me feel so much more like a Boss Lady! I agree, and I think they'll have a place in the fall/early spring wardrobe.

      Thanks so much, my dear!

  6. Your striped flared trousers look fantastic on you. Your legs look so long. I love wide trousers and flares. They are the only kind of trousers I like really. This is a great look. Have a fab weekend!

    1. That's probably because the pants are really long, Ivana, but thank you so much. I'm a fan of flares/wide legs too - they're so classic.

Thank you! I hope you had a good one. :)

  11. What a cool outfit! Love the marriage of classic B&W with a punchy patterned top. I've said it before, but I will happily say it again, no one tops you on the pattern pairing front, my super stylish friend.

  13. Those pants definitely say "Summer" to me too. I love a bold stripe - none of that fussy pinstripe for me. I would not have thought to wear that top with them but it all works, especially with the turquoise 'Vogs.

We have two weathers here this month - raining, and/or insanely hot. I am looking forward to jacket weather.
