Neutrals, Sequins and Chartruese

Back to work, and reaching for another pre-planned outfit from my last closet rummage. Both of the main pieces had not yet been worn this season, so why not pair them?
It was gloomy and overcast this morning, and felt so much cooler. Awesome.

  • Blouse - Catherine Malandrino, thrifted; last seen here in May 2020 with yellow cords
  • Skirt - Banana Republic, consignment; last worn here in February with fuzzy roadkill
  • Shoes - Eject; last seen here in June with a jungle dress
  • Coat (below) - Prosperity, consignment; last worn here in May

I love the cut of this silk blouse - it has big bell sleeves, but the light neutral background is tricky to match things to. I wish it was a more regular/symmetrical pattern.
My sequined skirt is always entertaining to wear. I "drew" a happy face on it in the morning - fake it till you make it!
I've rescued this blouse once from the giveaway pile, and it always elicits positive reactions, but I'm not 100% feeling it.
This skirt feels more like a winter skirt to me - I'm not entirely sure why I kept it out for spring/summer.

Masked up - I matched the pink and the chartreuse from the top for my accessories.
Meh. Not really feeling this look, overall. It's okay.

  • Mask - by Mom

Outerwear!
I liked the constellation pattern on the jacket with the skirt. Space!

The stuff:
Easy shoes for the office.

Matching bling:
Getting in the first wearings of my two new bracelets - finally!

  • Tassel earrings - consignment, Vancouver
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Green stone bracelet - vintage mall; purchased here for $26.00
  • Silver link bracelet - Stella & Dot, consignment; purchased here for $32.00

  1. Gorgeous outfit, Sheila! I love the bracelet matching the shoes -- you are the queen of accessories!

  2. Stellar jacket, LOL. No, seriously it is fun and has so many possibilities. Have you worn that blouse with your red skirt? Loving the green and chartreuse accessories today and with the jammy Trina Turk.

    1. Thanks, Chalotalo! I really like it, and should wear it more often. No, I haven't worn this with red (it has orange and pink, but no red in it) or with orange, but I've decided to pass it along. No quite right for me.

      Thank you!

  3. The happy face on your sequin skirt made me smile. This blouse and skirt make for a lovely pairing...and the shoes are simply divine. Great styling.
I heard some rumours about cooler weather, let's hope for the best.

    1. It amuses me to play with the skirt that way, Ivana - too bad there was no one in the office all day to show it to! Thank you, but I'm not keeping the blouse. I love the shoes though!

It's cooled off substantially this week, thank goodness!

  4. My first reaction was “interesting and unusual dress” so had to chuckle upon zooming in and seeing your outfit was composed of two separates! Oh yes, the smiling skirt requires a smile in response. :) Am in agreement with you about it feeling more like a winter skirt…maybe because the sequins glisten like a new snow fall…or sparkling tinsel…uh oh, maybe my desire for cooler days is influencing this comment. ;)

I echo Chalotalo’s comment about your jacket. It and the skirt are a nice pairing.

Returning to your reply from a previous post, the number and size of the western U.S. fires and the low levels of water in those areas is unnerving. I read a Sci fi book by Kim Stanley Robinson, The Ministry for the Future (am a big fan of his books), which is all about climate change due to extreme heat. Very prescient.

    1. Ha, that's funny that you took it for a dress, Laurie! Sequins usually feel like party season to me, and I get what you mean - I'm nearly ready for fall!

Thanks so much! Yes, all those fires are so scary! I've read the Mars books by Robinson - it does feel like we are living in a dystopian sci-fi age, doesn't it?

  5. I couldn't help smiling when I spotted that happy face on your skirt. Fake it till you make it indeed. In spite of you not really feeling the outfit, I think it is gorgeous and I'm loving that blouse in particular, and I love how you used both the hot pink and chartreuse for accessorizing it. The jacket is of course absolutely perfect with the skirt.
Glad to hear you're experiencing cooler temperatures now. Ours are a bit too cool for comfort, being only 15°C today. Brr! xxx

    1. I did a smiley face, even though I wasn't feeling it, Ann. I love the blouse, but it's not me and I find it hard to style. I will have to get my 'big sleeves' fix elsewhere! The jacket was a lucky pick!

It's been great - low 20s, although it's chilly in the mornings (10 today!!).

  6. Sheila, I love the jacket and the skirt with the smiley face. I'm less certain about the blouse. I agree with an earlier writer - try it with your red skirt. If you still feel "meh" about it, pass it along. You've got so many wonderful blouses, don't ever settle for "meh."

    1. Thank you - I agree regarding the blouse. I'm not going to pair it with more bottoms when I know it's not working. It is in the giveaway pile! I agree, don't settle for "meh."

  7. I can't even imagine your closet system. I have yet another couple months before I face the office. The jacket is very chic.

    1. I'm a very methodical person, Sam - I'm now looking for backward hangers and ensuring I wear all of my spring/summer clothes at least once before the next swap-over. Thank you!

  8. I love that skirt, and I really like the blouse, although I know that if you're not feeling it it doesn't make sense to keep it around. I wish i could be that ruthless with my wardrobe!

    1. I love the skirt too, Mica - it's so fun to play with. But you know me so well - the blouse is off to the giveaway pile!

It isn't that hard to be ruthless - try removing everything you feel "meh" about and just bag it up and put it aside. If you can't remember what you put in there after 6 months, then you can safely let it go. If you change your mind on anything, you can return it to the closet.

  9. I love that blouse with the skirt, you might not be feeling it but you're looking fantastic! Clever you for matching the earrings with the piping on your top, I love little details like that. xxx

    1. Thank you so much, Vix - I am not feeling the blouse and it's been moved back to the giveaway pile.

I am all about the details!

  10. And another positive reaction to the blouse. It is lovely. With the skirt I would prefer boots I think, because of the length.

    1. I'm not keeping it, especially after I already relegated it to the giveaway pile once - it was on a short leash! I usually do a heel with this skirt, but it's just generally better for cooler weather.

  11. Yaasss!!! I am with you big time when it comes to the welcome respite from summer's scorching temps that often accompanies late August/early September. I don't mind a bit of summer's fiery heat at times, but fall weather will forever be my fave - especially since I prefer to dress for the chillier half of the year as a general rule.

Hopefully you'll get treated to several weeks of mild, not too damp fall weather in Victoria this time around. Tony and I both suspect winter will come calling early again here, but at least for the moment, the temps are mild, the sunshine glorious, and we're not had our first front of the season yet.

    1. I am so with you on that, Autumn - fall is my very favourite time of year, and I've been watching for the leaves to start turning, and smelling for rain in the air.

I hope so too - thank you! I have a feeling it's going to be a hard winter this year, but we'll take that as it comes. Sending you sunny days and rainy nights!
