Misbehaving Greens

We are nearly there, my friends - a long weekend looms ahead. Today called for green and lots of it.
Nothing new here, just remixing some of the cool stuff already in my wardrobe.

  • Cardigan - Joseph A, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in May for a shopping day
  • Silk blouse - Milly, thrifted; first seen here in June with acid yellow and polka dots
  • Pants - Banana Republic, thrifted; last worn here in April with the origami blouse
  • Shoes - Chie Mihara; last seen here in April 2018 with a teddy sweater

My accessories all matched, but otherwise nothing else in the outfit was an exact match. I wasn't quite sure how people would react.
But a surprising number of people happily exclaimed, "Green!" when they saw me.

Although I love the colour, this long cardigan is in the giveaway pile. It wrinkles like mad, and bags out when I wear it. I bought it for $34.98 and have worn it seven times, so that's $5 per wear - I'm totally good with that.
I kept shoving up the arms, and they just kept falling down. Arg, there is nothing I hate more than a misbehaving article of clothing.

Second wearing of this blouse - I love the abstract doodle-y floral pattern.
The emerald green brocade weaver trousers are a firm favourite - you can see a bit of the texture in the stair picture above.

I swooshed around, as I am wont to do.
 There's some mischievous swooshing afoot!

The stuff:
These shoes didn't match at all, but I liked how they still worked with the outfit. The dots are raised and fuzzy! I am all about textures. I haven't worn these shoes in well over a year, but I'm keeping them - they are so gorgeous - even though I can't wear them standing for long. I stuck close to my desk all day.

Green bling:
I threaded the silk scarf through my ponytail elastic and wrapped it around a few times before tying it in a bow.

  • Silk scarf - thrifted
  • Silicon squishy cuff - Materia Design, thrifted
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Glass bead/metal necklace - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Jade/brass ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Aventurine/silver ring - consignment
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver

After work, I did a quick whirlwind shop with my colleague Simona (success: two pairs of trousers, two tops and a raincoat), who dropped me off at home where I changed into my walking gear and went out on my Mental Health Walk.

It was glorious and wonderful and felt SO GOOD. I'll share the walk with you sometime - I live in a beautiful place. This is one of the last times I walked "my route", here, back in January 2011!

I spent ten minutes finishing up Mai's Zentangle tile, to give to her tomorrow at her work farewell shindig.

I hope she likes it!

I am off now, and it's a long weekend, so I will be back on Monday with tales of adventure. Thank you all so much for stopping by - have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Sheila, I love when you mix it up. You inspire me to be brave with colour and mixing patterns etc. I have a tendency to to go too neutral and try to tone things down and then end up boring. I like the mix of greens, it reminds me of summer, have to say though I am particularly enamored with the shoes they are gorgeous!

    1. Aw, what a sweet thing to say, Dar, thank you! Nah, bring on the colour! Most Chie Mihara shoes are insanely comfortable, but I have to wait for them to go on sale as they are Fluevog-level expensive! Footloose downtown on Fort carries a limited line.

  2. I like all the different shades of green together Sheila! It's a shame that cardi is leaving, it's a great one, but I know that pain of stretched out arms not staying in place! It was the reason I got rids of so many cardigans last winter when I decided to downsize what I had - no time for annoying clothes!

I've been making more of an effort to wear green lately and previously an outfit like this would have been too much for me to try - but I've been having a blast wearing lots of different green pieces together recently! Don't know why I was so scared of the colour before!

    1. Thanks so much, Mica. I know, I am sad about the cardi too, but it's driving me bonkers that the sleeves have bagged out so badly. I still have 3-4 long cardis, so it's not like I'm going to run out!

Good for you! I love trying different combinations. You never know - it's fun to see you grow in your style by adding more colour! :)

    1. Sorry, I don't know what a gravatar is! I'm guessing some sort of avatar? I think my blog only recognizes Google avatars. I'm using the bare basics with Blogger.

  5. I love green! This is such a great styling. I love how you paired those green pants with that abstract print tee with green details. The long green cardi is gorgeous. Such a shame it wrinkles easily, this shade of green is so pretty. The dotted heels are so unique, I bet they make any outfit more fun to wear (even if they aren't comfy). Your accessories are beautiful too.
I love going for a walk too. A nice relaxing walk is great way to take care of and improve our mental health.

    1. Thanks, Ivana, me too! The "tee" is actually a 100% silk blouse - it's pretty, isn't it? I rarely wear tees - they are too casual for my style.

I know, I am sad about the cardi, but it's had a good run. One of my friends will love it, I'm sure. The shoes are comfy...for a 4-inch heel! Thank you so much - the accessorizing is half the fun with my outfits!

It is the best - going for a walk without purpose (i.e. not going somewhere specific, just walking) is one of the best things I can do for my mental health. I loved my walk yesterday.

  6. Misbehaving or not, I'm totally digging your greens, Sheila! Such a vibrant yet mellow outfit. I just love those trousers, they're such a fab colour and that tone-on-tone print makes them extra special. Such a shame about that long cardigan, though. I'm greatly admiring your Zentangle tiles, too. Have a most wonderful weekend, Sheila. I'll be off on a little trip next week. I'll be reading your posts, but will comment with some delay once I'm back. xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Ann! You know me: a plain pant will never do vs. a patterned/textured pant! I know, I am sad about the cardi - it may yet get a reprieve from the giveaway pile, but probably not.

Aw, thank you - I love doing my Zentangles. They are good for my brain.

I am also going to be off for part of next week - enjoy your break!

  7. Hi Sheila! Enjoy your long weekend :-) We have one too with Labor Day on Monday. Long weekends aka 4-day work weeks are so civilized they really should be the norm.

I like your zentangles and think you wrote about them somewhere but, not having found where am going to ask - are these actual ceramic tiles? And what type of pen and ink are you using? The patterns, swirls and result are quite appealing.

Lastly, am late to the comments but the black and white and navy striped top and checkered skirt outfit of a few days ago is fabulous and it looks smashing on you! Am looking forward to when you wear the Cheers Blouse.

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Hi, Laurie! Thanks so much for your lovely comment - great to see you! I know, I could totally handle a 4 day work week, no problem!

Thank you! They are done on a thick piece of cream cardboard (you can buy the "tiles" at art supply stores), with a Micron black felt pen. I use a soft pencil for shading and a paper smudger for...smudging the shadows.

Thanks you! I am not sure what the "Cheers" blouse is, however...

  9. Your spotty, textured shoes are fab- even if they can only be worn for a short time.
A good ol’ walk amongst nature is always glorious for the soul, I reckon.
    Enjoy your long weekend. X

It really is - getting back to nature is good for the soul. Thanks, you too!

  10. Aaah, I love green! And those trousers are particularly splendid.

I hope Mai liked her tile!

  11. Sheila, could you explain how you create your tiles? Do you hand draw the designs? I think they're beautiful!

    1. Hi, Susan, you should be able to find out info by Googling Zentangle (it's a copyrighted process), but it's basically, learning how to make simple repetitive patterns, and shading them. I have a couple of books of patterns/Tangles, alphabets and ideas for combining them with colour (which I haven't done too much of), and then kind of go from there.

      Thank you so much!

  12. I really like the shade of green of the cardigan, too bad it's outlived it's usefulness.
You did a lovely job on the Zentangle tile!

  13. woww, lovely color combo, those Green shades work together nicely!, sometimes mismatched colors rock totally!. I do love your Green trousers, their color and texture are fab, and they look lovely with the 'chartreuse' cardigan. Sorry that it's not a comfortable piece to wear.
    And those shoes are Gorgeous!

    1. Thank you, Monica! Oh, the cardigan is very comfy, but the sleeves falling down all the time was so annoying. I just won't stand for that!
