Bigass Long Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Blue Ruffles; Saturday Shop; Sunday Space-Suit

Hello, my friends. We're at the tail-end of our Labour Day long weekend, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the last day before what's sure to be a very busy day tomorrow at work.

But let's not think of such things! Let's cast our minds back to the halcyon day of Friday when the weekend was still full of promise.
I saved the first wearing of my 3.1 Phillip Lim skirt for my coworker Mai's send-off party after work.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. Go!

  • Silk blouse - Bird by Juicy Couture, thrifted; first worn here in July with culottes and sparkles
  • Skirt - 3.1 Phillip Lim, thrifted; purchased here for $19.99
  • Shoes - Effortless Vivian, Fluevog; last seen here in July with the Lifesavers dress
  • Coat (below) - Club Monaco, thrifted; last worn here a couple of weeks ago

L gave this outfit an enthusiastic thumbs' up and "Woo, sexy!" comment in the morning, even though I still had my hair up in twists to make it curly.
The outfit got several favourable comments from my colleagues, and yes, I felt like a million bucks in it too! The skirt is on the (very) short side, so I wore nylons to make me feel more secure about my thighs being unleashed upon the world.

I love the soft grey-ish tone of this blue silk blouse - lots of coverage for the intermittent sun (and spitting rain), and to make the skirt more businesslike. The office was dead on Friday, though.
My lovely curls fell out by the time 10am rolled around. Sigh. My natural white/grey hair and texture likes neither curls nor colour. It's a bit of getting used-to!

The skirt is fabulous, isn't it? And pockets too!
Could I have any better match for the blue in the lace at the hem? I think not.

Coated due to variable weather conditions.
I felt very snazzy all day.

The stuff:
How lucky that I had the perfect shoes already in my wardrobe! These are wonderfully comfy. That baby blue is pearlized.

Simple bling:
My grandmother's vintage brooch was pinned at the neck of the blouse.

  • Brooch - Pastelli, vintage early 60s, Grandma S
  • Earrings - Plum
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

I got home late from Mai's send-off and L was out with a coworker. Someone was not happy with me.
"I expect my dinner on time, Woman."

Vizzini is a seething loaf of fury.

After a chill Friday night (much-needed), I went to town early on Saturday to meet up with a former WW member of mine, Christina, for a shopping trip through the WIN (Women in Need) store on Pandora.
I didn't dress for trying clothes on - this shop was about her, not me - but of course, when I do that, I always find something I need to try on!

  • Acid wash denim vest - ChiqQle, thrifted; last seen here for a Corey Hart concert with Ali in June
  • T-shirt - Banana Republic, thrifted; last worn here in June with silk pants for brunch
  • Skirt - See by Chloe, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) in May for a weekend shopping trip
  • Shoes - Seychelles, thrifted; last worn here with the last of my Helmut Lang blouse in July

Christina was looking to get out of her colour rut (mostly blue) and find some new-to-her clothes for her changing body as she works on her wellness journey. We had a great time, and spent nearly two hours combing the store for goodies. She ended up with 4 or 5 items for less than $40, and was really happy with all of her finds.
I love sharing my shopping/style/fashion/brand knowledge that I've accumulated over the years! To any of my local readers (Hello! to L's coworkers who read/visit, and to my friends/former WW people), don't be shy if you want to go shopping with me - my email's in my profile.

I met L after the shopping expedition, and we had lunch at John's Place diner, then did a few downtown chores before heading home and relaxing with Vizzini for the evening.
I loved getting another wearing out of this dark green paisley skirt.

Isn't it pretty? It has two layers of micro-pleated swoosh.
 Allow me to show you.
Clothes with movement always ring my bell.

Ready to go, but what's that?
Aw, for cryin' out loud! Rain?
Ah well, just slap on a hat and make the best of it!

  • Hat - Deluxe
  • Purse - Roots, thrifted

Rejoining "Hat Attack!" over at the Style Crone! Check her out!

The stuff:
I don't usually wear these shoes when I go shopping because they're a pain to unbuckle/buckle, but I didn't try any shoes on this time around.

Simple bling:
I have always liked wooden jewelry.

  • Aventurine/silver ring - antique mall
  • Wood ring - thrifted
  • Wood/silver earrings - consignment, Powell River

In addition to Christina's treasures, there were a few things that I couldn't leave behind, including this little bit of insanity.
Woven "paint" texture plus stretch side panels/arms and black tux lapels?

Please. This has my name written all over it!
I plan on wearing it with my pink satin pants!

Nice details - a name on the buttons usually speaks to higher quality.
This is indeed by Isaac Mizrahi.
It was $22.95, and originally sold via Nordstrom Rack for $139.50, marked down to $59.00, so not bad!

Mine has very little wear - the pockets on the front are real, but have not been opened up...
...and the previous owner missed the stitch at the back split - I cut it out immediately. Must go!

You know my love for black and white/cream patterns, so this lovely knit sweater dress caught my eye on my "paw-through" the dress racks (I often run my hand through the mass of fabrics to find the "real" materials).
This felt real, soft and of good quality.

I could barely read the label, but at $11.95, it was worth a try on.
It's by Gudrun Sjoden, a Swedish company that uses sustainable and often organic materials in their clothing.

I've never heard of this brand before, but a cotton/linen blend will nearly always catch my eye (or hand).
Perusing their site here (link 'cause I love), this probably would have been in the $200 range for a knit long-sleeved dress.
I plan to put this into the "wear around the house" collection (L approved, he does get tired of my house clothes, so I replace my older pieces semi-annually). Gotta love the pockets too!

I also found this top in with the vintage clothes.
Nothing terribly special, but I'm always on the lookout for good things that will fit somewhere in my wardrobe.
This is a 100% silk thermal layering top by Polar-therm, meant for extra warmth in winter. This will also live in my around the house wardrobe, likely under my new dress. For only $8.95? Get out, that would be over $60 new!

Vizzini was happy to have us home together on Saturday night.
"More cuddles would be nice."

After a late evening playing boardgames, we both slept in and had to rush to get out of the house to go to the Splash Poolside Lounge for Vero's birthday hang-out on Sunday.
It was partly sunny, partly overcast, so I wore light layers, suitable for sitting around for a few hours, drinking margaritas.

  • Jacket - Prosperity, consignment; purchased here for $25.00
  • Sparkle tee - Ted Baker, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) for Book Club in March(with these same pants!)
  • Space jeans - H&M, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in that same outfit for Book Club
  • Shoes - Miista; last worn here in July with neon and chrysanthemums

I'm all sparkly and metallic - it's a space-suit!
These jeans are wonderfully stretchy and comfy for slouching about around a pool.

L getting ready.
He and Linda braved the pool - not I!

I wore my new-to-me space jacket for walking there and back, but as the sun peeped out (and not) from the clouds, I kept it on most of the day.
My bangs are so long right now, I had to swoop them up and out of the way. Haircut on Tuesday!

Such a great pattern of constellations.
My friends were big fans of it.
Are you ready to go? One more picture!

The stuff:
My "trout" shoes are so comfy. I wore black lace socklets with them.

  • Purse - Danier Leather, thrifted

Silver bling:
Spacey accessories included my "atom" brooch. Perfect!

  • Brooch - gift from Mom, New Zealand
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - Fossil, thrifted
  • Bracelet - Fossil, gift from L
  • F#@! rings - Wendy Brandes

Vizzini hopes everyone had a wonderful long weekend.
"I do? Get out of my face, Woman."

And I'll leave you with a pensive look and a peek at my outrageous swear rings.
"Hmmm...what's in store for the week ahead? F#@!"

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  3. I agree with L - that first outfit is definitely a "Woo,Sexy"! The skirt is so freakin' cool! I like the two layer floaty one too. Oooo, nice score on the Isaac Mizrahi jacket - I would have been all over that one. The silk "thermal" will come in handy in the colder months.

Awww, what a great closing shot of Vizzini! He's so handsome.

    1. I loved the first outfit, and the second was a close...second! I'm not sure how many times I'll wear the IM jacket, but it was too cool to pass up.

I know, I love that pic of the Vizz.

  5. I really like your shopping outfit with the maxi skirt (and that jacket is so you, what a bargain!) but the space outfit is my favourite - you look great! :)

There's an event I'm hoping to go to here soon but the theme is 'hint of glitter' and I don't have a lot of sparkly pieces in my wardrobe - I regret letting go of my gold metallic skinny jeans now! haha! I wish I had some fun pieces like you're wearing here!

  6. Each outfit had me smiling wider than the previous one; not only do they look super on you, but they have distinct personalities. I especially liked the striped dress you bought and wonder if you'll cave and wear it out of the house instead of (in addition to) wearing about the house. And your spacesuit outfit is awesome - I would totally wear the entire ensemble! And finally, looking forward to seeing the new I.M. jacket in an outfit.

    Cheers to you!
