Marimekko Tribute and Turquoise

As we turn the corner on August into September, I'm aiming on rewearing some of my favourite summer clothes before I do my fall/winter swap-over at the end of the month.
This skirt is in the "must wear again" category - isn't it marvelous?

  • Ballet cardigan - Wolford, thrifted; last seen here in April with the brolly skirt
  • Tank - not tracked, thrifted
  • Skirt - A Tribute to Marimekko by H&M, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) for our last Winesday in July
  • Shoes - Sam Edelman, thrifted; last seen here in July with ruffles and pearls

Both the cardigan and the skirt are silk/cotton blends, and both breathable in the (finally!) hot weather we're having and warm in our air-conditioned office.
I usually wear this vibrant skirt with black, turquoise or both - no surprises here! It's not real Marimekko (not like Lorena's!), but from H&M's Tribute collection, released in 2008. I'd love to find more pieces - these bold colours are very me.

My bigass belt is hiding the knot from the cardigan, which is a wrap-around, tying in the back.
But the skirt is the star of the outfit - it was much admired in the office today.

It's very swooshy, a fine billowy woven fabric - with pockets!
 Mid-swoosh!

It's nice and full, with a generous flounce at the hem.
The colours are orange, red and marigold yellow. It's one of my favourite skirts.

The stuff:
Comfy low shoes today. I briefly considered a heeled black sandal, but I need to redo my pedicure first!

Turquoise bling:
I am a fan of turquoise, even though I think only the ring is a real stone. The belt is a very expensive brand (one like this would start at $199), but I picked it up ages ago for a song at the thrift store due to a couple of missing "stones".

  • Belt - Brave Belts, thrifted
  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - second-hand furniture store
  • Turquoise ring - local
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

Vizzini and I had a cuddle in this chair this morning. He drooled all over my skirt.
"Do we really need to share that?"

He's becoming quite the drooly cat.

  1. I love this skirt so much and it looks great with turquoise! :) I wish I had a skirt like this, but after I filled my "bag of clothes for $5" at the opshop the other week with 4 new maxi skirts I guess I should be happy with what I have, haha!

    1. Thank you! I love the contrast with the skirt's vibrant colours. Ha, I think your 4 maxis are plenty, but there's always room for a bigass flouncy maxi, Mica! Never say never!

And I've got to be honest, I don't know much about Marimekko but I have heard of it. Your skirt is fantastic! X

    1. Isn't it a cool belt, Jess? It's really thick and heavy. I don't know a ton about Marimekko either, but I love big bold designs! Thank you!

  5. Ah, that Tribute to Marimekko skirt is just heavenly, Sheila! Made for swooshing, that's for sure. Turquoise might not have been the obvious choice, but it works really well. I'm loving all your turquoise bling, and how fabulous is that belt! I had to giggle at "Do we really need to share that?". Oh, Vizzini! xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! It is definitely a favourite of mine, and yes, made for swooshing! I will also have to try yellow with it one day - I think that would be amazing too.

      Vizzini's such a character! :)

  7. Whoa!! This skirt!! It's beautiful and something I'd wear in a New York minute. If the waistband is expandable, it might even fit me. If you ever decide to part with it, I'll pay top dollar (Canadian). :)

    1. It's gorgeous, isn't it? I bet you could find one on eBay. Mine is a size 4 and I can barely get the zipper up (I never button it - too small!), so I don't think mine would fit you, hon. :( But if I ever spot another one in your size or close to it, I'll pick it up for you.

  8. Ever such a nice outfit. I have a similar skirt. I don't wear it often but it is a good skirt.
    Very good styling too.

  9. That is definitely a swooshy statement skirt. In my fantasy life, I would wear a skirt like that, but in my getting on and off buses real life, I would end up tripping on it.

    1. It does require some serious Skirt Wrangling not to roll it up in my office chair's wheels! However, it's more than made up for when I saunter about swooshing!

    Swooshy made my day.
