Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Full-On Stevie Kimono; Mall Shopping in Trina; Flounces for the Family; Dots Shop

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there! Another Happy Mother's Day to my own Mom, along with another big "Happy Birthday" to her!

We have lots to get through, so let's kick it off with Friday's work outfit.
L was a big fan of this outfit, and it was a very impressive one in person - much swooshing and textural interest.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. What are you waiting for? Go!

  • Kimono - no label, consignment; purchased here for $49.99
  • Sweater - Ellen Tracy, swap from Caro; last worn here in June 2018 with chartreuse and green lace (love that outfit)
  • Jeans - L'Wren Scott for Banana Republic, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Shoes - Super Fine Cardinal, Fluevog; last worn here in April for a holiday day

Kimonos like this are tricky to wear - the weather needs to be warm enough to wear it as the topper, but not cool enough to need a coat.
So this lovely silk velvet piece has been hanging in my closet, waiting for the perfect weather. Voila! We had it on Friday.

It was awesome to swoosh about in, although I did crunch a couple of the beads under the wheel of my desk chair, and one of the tassels was ripped off when I was climbing up and down a ladder. Easy fixes, though.
I thought it went perfectly with these browny-burgundy flocked velvet jeans.
Add a ton of accessories, and I'm full-on Stevie Nicks (reference here*if you don't know who I'm talking about!). *linking 'cause I love!
Got my leather Roots purse and I am ready to roll. I had a haircut after work, then met L for dinner downtown, following by a chill evening at home playing board games. Good times.

The stuff:
Barely anyone at work saw these the last time I wore them, since it was Easter Monday. They got lots of love on Friday!

All the bling:
I pulled everything that fit in the colour palette, regardless of metals (which were silver, bronze and gold).

  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Ring - c. 1996
  • Glass bead necklace - Oscar & Libby's
  • Pink/gold necklace - Eaton's c. 1999

Oops, missed the lion head.
"Hey."

I just felt the outfit needed a statement belt buckle, right?

  • Buckle - Zara, thrifted
  • Belt - Leather World

During my Friday lunch break, I popped over to Footloose Shoes, and found myself my summer walking-to-and-from-work shoes for the season.
I haven't been able to find good runners second-hand - I've had a few failure purchases, so finally I gave in and bought new. But at least I'm supporting a local business!

These are suede, and are by New Balance, so uber-comfy!
I like that the soles match the dusty pink of the tops. These were on sale for $76.99.

On Saturday, we didn't have Ulti, so L and I bought out day passes and did some much-needed bussing around town and taking care of those pesky chores that tend to pile up.
It was a hot day - 28 degrees! - so I took the opportunity to wear this lovely vintage-inspired dress and give my new-to-me flats a test run.

  • Dress - Trina Turk, thrifted; purchased here for $24.95
  • Shoes - Born, consignment; purchased here for $27.99
  • Kimono jacket - Lysse; first worn here in February with wallpaper pants

I loved wearing this dress - it's such a nice mix of bright colours.
 I love the paisley pattern.
And it's a great fit. Fit is always the thing that makes a garment become a favourite for me.

Pockets definitely help!
This was a fun dress to wear around, although whenever I was sitting, I did notice...it's SHORT.

Good thing I wore this lace topper over it.
L, also looking fine (and blurry).

This gave me sunblock and kept me warm while we were indoors. Brrrr, air conditioning!

Ready to go, and I even changed my bag!
I love that suede/leather bucket bag, but it is a pain to get in and out of.

The stuff:
The shoes were wonderful, with only a little rubbing on one toe, which is to be expected, as my feet are not "seasoned" for the weather and not having nylons on.

Orange and green bling:
Any opportunity to wear some fun bling!

  • Orange cuff/ring - vintage 60s, Italian, vintage mall
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver
  • Jade/brass ring - vintage 70s, Mom's

As our reward for doing the chore-y things, L and I stopped in at Mayfair Mall - we both had gift cards for the mall, plus Chapters/Indigo cards, from assorted birthdays/Christmas. I loathe the mall, so I just braved two stores: MAC (got a new lipstick) and Indigo (yay, books!).
I splurged on that Fashion Designers A-Z book, featuring 500 pictures from the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. It's a gorgeous book, more like a reference of every notable designer. I plan to read it slowly and really absorb it all. The Nautical Chic book was a bargain, and has some  really fun sections (there's one on pirates!), so I'll be adding that to my fashion library once I've read it.

We rushed home, just in time to get changed and go to my brother Dave's house for a barbecue for Mom's birthday. All four of Dave's kids were there, plus assorted other family (ex-wife, friends, boyfriends, etc.). It was awesome - my bro is a great cook.
Dave told us to "dress appropriately" for lawn games - hey, it's like he knows us!

  • Cashmere sweater - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in April for a shopping expedition
  • Skirt - VanessaVirginia, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in August 2018 with coral
  • Shoes - Born, consignment; last worn in the outfit above - twice in one weekend!
  • Jean jacket (below) - Dolce & Gabbana, thrifted; last seen here in April

This was a very comfy outfit for playing bean-bag tossing games and flouncing about on the lawn in the hot sun.
I had a good time trash-talking my nieces and nephew, since I kicked their butts (mostly). Heh.

Much as I like the style and swooshiness of this skirt, I'm done with it.
I'm just not feeling it, and I have a nice collection of swooshy skirts that I love more. Buh-bye!

Not much in the way of Vizzini pictures this weekend - we've been out a lot, so he's been sulking.
"Getting some good napping in without you bothering me, Woman."

Just one drive-by visit of His Blurriness.

Outerwear for being in the shade/indoors.
I love mixes of blue and orange.

The stuff:
I kept out the orange stuff from the earlier outfit, along with the shoes, and pulled out some of my blue bling.

  • Bracelet/ring -as above
  • Earrings - local
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Pendant - Miracle, gift from L

Today/Sunday, I went to town for groceries - I didn't dress up, as I had intended on coming straight home, but I needed some quiet Zen time, so I spent a couple of hours browsing in Dots, which is a store that sells overstock and samples. It's shopping new, but you find really unique items and it is a local business.
For $1.99 this little suede studded zip mini-purse will be a useful item for when I'm out and need my hands free. It's slightly bigger than a credit card.

They had a clearance on Urban Outfitters tights.
The blue and the pinky-red ones are sheer tights and were only $1.99 a pair. The striped ones are beige nylons with black and blue strips up the back of the calves - they were $2.99.

I have had my eye out for a pair of undershorts for ages! What a find!
These will never see the light of day, be assured. They are viscose, very soft and are for wearing under skirts/pants with bare legs. I'll be mostly wearing these in the summer to prevent my thighs from chafing.

They're by X-Two, and were $9.99.
Not an exciting item, but very practical!

I hemmed and hawed over this stretch pencil skirt, but gave in.
I really like the colours in it - they will go with a lot in my wardrobe.

This is a better look at the pattern. The colours are pale yellow, forest green, navy blue, red and grey.
It's by Kersh and was $19.99.

I have been wanting a pant-suit for ages, it feels like. I love suiting - my first suit was a gorgeous skirt suit that I wore to high school in 1985. I wish I had a picture of it!

I tried on a lot of separates in oodles of colours, but I ended up with this black patterned one.
The jacket is a boxy cut, and the fabric is 100% viscose, with a nice sheen to it, and very good draping.

It's by Part Two - the jacket is fully-lined, and that nice white piping is all through the lining.
 The jacket was $59.99.

It's a single button double-breast cut, with two pockets on the front.
I will probably leave those stitched up for now - I tend to jam my hands in them (heh, that doesn't sound like me!).

The pants have a lovely grossgrain ribbon lining inside the waistband, and rear pockets (also will not be unstitched).
They also have front slash pockets, and are cuffed. They were $49.99. Washable too!

This style is called the Olga - there's a picture here (link 'cause I love) of the suit on so that you can get a better idea of what it looks like.
I felt pretty good with this purchase - it would have been $375.00 new in a store, but only $110.00 via Dots! I'll be wearing it later this week, for sure!

Well, off to spend some more quiet time with my cranky kitty. Tell me what your favourite thing was that I wore/bought!

  2. Oh yes, that velvet kimono is a special piece - you look like royalty. And I'm scouring all the shops for a cool pantsuit - like the one you just found! Excellent shopping, as per always my friend. xox

  3. That first look is so very appealing I can see why L would love it, i do too. The kimono is such a lux piece.
At 28 degrees I would happy, we had 34 degrees this weekend, for a moment i thought i was going to melt.
I ADOREEEEEE the new printed two piece!! I want to see you wear it, what a great find my friend.

    1. It really was better in person too, Lorena. It was lovely, but hasn't lasted. Ugh, 34 is crazy hot! Thank you, my dear - I'm super stoked to wear it.

  4. You're indeed channeling your inner Stevie Nicks wearing that awesome fringed kimono! We had some sunny spells but it was chilly, so I'm quite envious of your 28°C! Wasn't your brother lucky to have such gorgeous weather for his barbecue? I'm loving the sneakers/runners you bought, as that's how I like them best, with a sole in a similar colour. But yours are so much nicer than the (cheap) grey ones I was wearing in last week's post. My favourites of your finds are the skirt and the suit. Oh, and that Fashion Designers book looks quite interesting! xxx

    1. It didn't last, Ann - we're back to our usual 12-ish degrees, but oh it was nice while we had it! I'm so glad it timed up well with the barbecue. I thought of you when I bought the sneakers, ha! I know you hate the white soles.

The book is really amazing, but yes, also excited about the skirt and suit.

  5. That kimono is sublime - I adore Stevie Nicks' style so it gets a huge thumbs up from me. Just look at the quality of it! The vintage shift dress is adorable on you, love the pumps, too.
How lucky for your brother to have 28°C for his birthday celebrations, here I am all smug because it's 18°C today. The skirt you're wearing is a beauty.
I found a vintage nude full length slip in a charity shop last week - the holy grail when I wear so many gauzy cotton dresses. Your cycling shorts are brilliant, such a underwear staple. Love the trouser suit and I wouldn't mind a flick through that fashion book.
Big love to Vizzini - ours are out basking in the evening sun. xxx

    1. Same here, Vix, you can't go wrong with emulating Stevie! I wish the dress were vintage, but it is modern - can you believe it with that print?

I wish we had 18 degrees now - it's back to our usual chilly/warm spring.

Oh, I love vintage slips like that - I wear them under nearly everything. The fashion book is amazing.

Aw, happy boys in the sun.

  6. Gosh so much loveliness!

I love the Cardinal shoes; the white lace topper and all the fab bling with your outfits. I absolutely loved the pant suit, the patterned skirt and the bloomers! How very sensible of you. I don't think I have ever seen a pair like these anywhere...

    Have a great week
    xx

    1. Yes, there is so much freedom these days in what we can wear and how we can express ourselves sartorially. Thanks, Ally!

  9. LOVE your hair. I haven't linked up with Patti in a long, long time. Last I saw of your posts you had bright colored hair.
I also adore maxi skirts. I have bought quite a few in the past months. They are perfect for work since it gets downright cold with the air conditioning. I also had to stop wearing nylons so the skirt length covers my untanned legs.

    1. So nice to see you, Tami! I know, it's all grown out now - I still have some light pink ends, and I do give it a purple toner periodically, but yes, I've embraced my grey.

Oh, yes, I am a huge fan of maxis! Never mind untanned - we don't have to shave as often!

  10. Ooo, the pant suit looks nice and I always fawn over lion belt buckles. It reminds me of my grandmother's door knocker handle with a lion face. X

  11. I almost miss this post, which had been so sad!. I'm loving your kimono, the texture and fabulousness and the lovely wallpaper print on your pants, the fab accessorizing and the hippietastic attitude!
And also love your cute colorful dress (paisley rocks!) and the swooshing skirt (sorry you don't feel it anymore). Love your purchases too, particularly those 'pettypants' which are totally my kind of thing (I have several of these and are so comfy!). Not glamourous, but totally Real Life!

  13. The skirt and jammies suit are both blooming brilliant purchases and I loved seeing how you styled them up later. I have a pair of undershorts that also haven't been aired on the blog, but goodness when you need them they are ideal. I wear them under wide legged trousers that are high waisted and slim fitting over the hips - the right undies are so important aren't they?
