Lace Duster, Wallpaper Pants

The snow is turning to slush, the sun was out today, and whew, it nearly feels over. Winter, that is. I am quite fine for winter to be over.
So fine, I wore my springy lace duster today, even though it wasn't really season-appropriate.

  • Duster - Lysse; purchased here for $19.99
  • Sweater -Banana Republic, thrifted; last seen here in November 2018 under a denim dress
  • Trousers - Noa Noa; last worn here in October 2018 with a blue blazer
  • Shoes - Matisse; last seen here (3rd outfit) in January with the bark skirt
  • Coat (below) - Hilary Radley, thrifted; last worn here a week ago

I've decided that this lace thing is a duster. Even though it buttons up, it's not a jacket, not a cardigan. It's not a shirt and it's not a tunic either. So, duster it is.
I layered it over this fine brown merino wool sweater (a useful but not terribly exciting item), which made it slightly too tight in the arms. Yes, definitely more of a warm-weather item.

I had many admirers of the duster - wearing darker colours under it really helped the pattern pop.
I liked the mix with my "wallpaper" pants, so-called because the weave (not a print!) reminds me of the flocked velvet 60s wallpaper my grandparents had in their apartment when I was a kid.

Hands in pockets.
The deep slits up either side of the duster make this a natural pose for me.

Outerwear - the Unsafe Ocelot was perfect this morning.
After work, I browsed around downtown until it was time to meet my Book Club cohorts at a local restaurant for dinner and a spirited discussion around our last book. A lovely time!

  • Fur toque/scarf - Danier Leather
  • Gloves - Cejon, thrifted

The stuff:
Wet weather shoes - I did not change into my Doc Martens after work, as the restaurant was only a block away. After Book Club in a Pub, I hopped the bus home and gingerly walked around the mounds of freezing slush.

Gold bling:
Echoing the shaped in the pants' and duster's patterns.

  • Necklace - Trifari, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Earrings - Vintage fair
  • Ring - c. 1996

As tomorrow is Valentine's Day, and I'll be working late, followed by a nice dinner with L, I'll be back on Friday to show you my V-Day colours. Will you be in red and/or pink tomorrow?

  1. I love this embroidered piece, it totally rocks over a dark top, such an amazing layering!. And also love the different patterns and textures which match each other through the ensemble, your pants are fabulous (love a wallpaper motive!) and your shoes are simply perfect!. Cool and comfy!

  3. Glad to hear the worst is over, and your weather is improving, although I've just seen in your reply to Mica's comment that more snow is forecast ... Oh no! The duster looks really lovely on. Can't wait to see you style it with palazzo pants, it will look fabulous. Your pattern mixing and matching with the wallpaper pants and Trifari pendant is spot on! Enjoy your Valentine's dinner with L.! xxx

    1. Thanks, Ann! Yeah, I did snow more yesterday, but it didn't last, and it's raining now, which is great news! Woo!

  4. Agree! It's definitely a duster. And what a lovely one it is too. I loved it with the wallpaper pants - which are fab and those wonderful shoes. Smashing necklace.

    1. We read all genres in Book Club - it depends on what our picker selects! Each time, it's a surprise. Personally, I like fiction, mostly sci-fi or fantasy.

      Happy V-Day to you!

  6. I've never worn a duster -- or even considered wearing one -- but you make them look so good. Another idea you put in my head!

  7. Love your lace duster! And I like that use of terminology. I actually got a lace coat at a vintage shop in Austin, TX about 6 years ago, and haven't really liked the term "coat" for it. Maybe duster is right. I need to wear it more. It is gorgeous--Christian Lacroix. It still had a Neiman Marcus price tag on it--for a ton more than I paid. In fact, if I recall I paid 5% of the original price. I just need to get over how fancy it feels, and enjoy it!

I hope your Valentines date was nice!

    1. Thank you, Linda! Wow, Lacroix? You definitely have to wear that duster! What a score! Wear it with a tee and jeans and Converse - dress it casual!

Aw, thank you! It was very chill.

The wallpaper pants were made for that lace duster, a fabulous outfit taken to another level by the Unsafe Ocelot! xxx

  10. You guys have been getting some real winter weather out there this year! Ours didn't really get started until January but then it really kicked in. I don't mind the snow, but all the ice from the "rain/freeze" cycles we've been having is freaking me out.

I like that duster. I have something similar in black that was made in India but it's longer. I wear it over a sleeveless top and pants in warmer weather.

  11. Yummy pattern mix Sheila, I adore jacquarded or brocadestterss , so thirst trousers are u mynalley in the wall paper pattern. I agree, the lace thing is a duster, and would look gorgeous in the spring, over something Pank. Spotted pony shoes, icing on the cake friend!
Another fun mix to brighten my eyes.
    Bring on Spring!

  12. Now that's a lot of prints Sheila and it totally works.
The trousers and the duster have a really cool effect when one falls over the other. I have to ask how you realised these came together. Teach me master!
