Lettuce Dress and Tattoo Legs

Ugh, Mondays. Today was a frazzle-y day; it was super busy in the office, but the time flew by!
I had at least 6 comments today from my coworkers, thinking I'd had my legs tattooed over the weekend. Like you could tattoo all of both legs in a weekend! It would take months, and would cost thousands of dollars! I roll my eyes at all of you!

  • Dress - Simply Taylor, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in June 2018 to the Ulti field
  • Booties - Coffee Kope Tiam, Fluevog; last seen here in March with leather pants
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here a couple of days ago

Arms are tattooed. Legs NOT tattooed! Those are tights, obviously.
I thought this dress was a pretty good match to the tights when I put them on, but when I saw the stair picture (which is the last picture I take in the morning), I went, "Oops, not quite, Sheila!"

No time to change, though, so I just rolled with it.
I love the "lettuce" ruffles along the bottom of this dress - it's such a fun feature.

The dress is 100% cotton eyelet, and is one of the oldest pieces in my wardrobe. I usually wear it to the Ulti field or out for brunch on weekends, or on shopping expeditions - I thought I'd switch things up today and wear it to the office. Why not?
I've worn it 15 times now, since I first bought it in July 2010 for $27.00 (first worn here). Less than $2.00 per wear is awesome!

Outerwear - our 28 degree weather is quite over. We're back to 12-16 degrees, our regular range for this time of year.
And so, back to a coat!

The stuff:
Along with the tights, taking advantage of cooler weather to sneak in a wearing of booties. I never thought these taupe beauties would be so useful, but they are over 8 years old.

Round bling:
Simple shapes for a Monday.

  • Bracelet - Butler Fifth Avenue Collection, consignment
  • Wooden hoops - vintage, vintage expo
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. They are such fun tights! I really need to mix up my tights - they are all just basic black (but fleece lines so oh-so cosy which is what stops me branching out into any other colours, haha!) I need the fleece!

    1. I'm a big fan of funky tights - they aren't always a practical choice, but they do enliven an otherwise plain outfit. Go for it, Mica - fleece is nice, but you don't always need it!

  2. I love those fake tattoo tights with the lettuce dress - which is a fabulous colour on you! No wonder it's a firm favourite in your wardrobe, it looks so good and that ruffled hem is gorgeous. x

    1. Thanks, Vix! I'm happy that I've had this dress for so long, and still like it. I wasn't sure if it would stay in the wardrobe this season, but I loved wearing it again.

  3. You got me at the title, which made me smile from ear to ear! Lettuce dress, what an apt description indeed. And what a fab little dress too! I actually think it looks fantastic with the tattoo tights! Can't believe these people thought you had your legs tattoed ;-) xxx

    1. It does look like rows of wee lettuces, doesn't it, Ann? I know...silly people! ;-P

  4. Even though I know better (from having met you in person), my first thought was that your legs were tattooed. The tights certainly create that appearance. I'm reminded of an old episode of "The Big Bang Theory" in which two characters go to a goth bar and, to fit in, they wear faux-tattoo sleeves.

    1. LOL, yes, I have seen those faux-tattoo sleeves! They are hilarious. Glad you weren't (quite) fooled, Ally!

  6. That is such a fun dress! The ruffles are lovely. I think it's the first time I've seen your arm tattoo! I go out for a meetup with other women in my field of work and I'm one of the few without a tattoo. It's ace seeing what people choose.

    1. Thank you so much, Mim. This is the time of year where I start showing my ink - it always catches people by surprise.

  7. The lettuce ruffles on your dress match the ruffles on your coat so perfectly.
Green is your colour, Shiela, you look wonderful in it! X

  8. You have aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalll the textures today!!! Loving the dress. I'm a little bit irrationally scared of ink on skin (Mendhi, tattoos, festival stamps, writing in biro on your hand) so I'd probably avoid the type for fear of scaring myself when I looked down but they do look funky!

  9. This has always been one of my favourite dresses in your closet. It's the combination of the colour and the hem ruffle that endears it to me.
