Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Jumpsuit With Orange Bits; Denim Double Shop; Stripes and Yellow; Cute Kitty Pictures

Hello, my friends! It's been a blast of a weekend, and I have many things to show you (and yes, lots of pictures of Vizzini).

For Friday, I chose this jumpsuit - this is my second go of a jumpsuit in the modern era, the first one being this one (worn best here) (as opposed to the 80s - prepare to giggle here).
As always, we have to weigh the "OMG, fashion!" vs. the "peeing is difficult" issues of a jumpsuit. Belt off, button to undo, zip to undo, sleeves...and reverse...over and over and over.

  • Jumpsuit - Zara, thrifted; purchased here for $29.98 in November 2018 with birthday money
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn here in August 2018 with purple leather and chainmail
  • Shoes (below) - Harpers, thrifted; first worn here in November 2018 before getting stashed away for the season
  • Coat (below) - Club Monaco, thrifted; last seen here in late September 2018

Looks like a dress when I'm just standing, doesn't it?
It was lovely to wear other than the whole peeing thing. It did get a bit of static cling. Nothing a little hand lotion on my legs couldn't resolve.

I'm wearing the camisole that disappears into my skin under this - it's actually a very pale peach - to hide my bra. It also hides most of my back tattoos.
This fit well through the hips and waist, not that you can tell - that's a bold pattern.

Good thing I'm a bold person.
See? Totally a jumpsuit. I cut the ginormous belt-loops off. No one tells me where my waist is!

It also has slits, so the Swoosh Factor is high on the legs with this one.
It's one of those pieces that looks great in motion.

Pockets, for the win!
I knew I'd be walking home after work instead of hopping on the bus, so I brought these shoes too, and wore them for my end of day routine (up and down stepladders) as well as for my stroll home in the sun (still chilly out a bit). This is as close as I get to the "sneakers with dressy clothes" trend.

Outerwear - I put my S pin on after I took this picture.
Didn't need the gloves on the way home, but aren't all the orange bits lovely? I like to have matchy sets (matchy!!) of shoes, belt, gloves, and the matchy jewelry too. I've nearly got a full set of turquoise and pink, and I'm working on yellow.

The stuff:
Mmm, all that orange makes me happy. These shoes are a pair that I always enjoy wearing; the colour is so bright! And that's a very comfy heel - bonus!

Orange bling:
I bought all of it at different times and places, years and months apart. The pleasure is in the hunt!

  • Belt - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Cuff/ring - vintage 60s Italy, vintage mall
  • Wood earrings - vintage expo

I sneaked up on Vizzini this morning and took his picture through the glass.
"I totally heard you coming. I used to be an Officer, remember?"

He doesn't miss much.

After a chill Friday night of music and board games, we headed to Shine Cafe for breakfast on Saturday morning.
It was a semi-cold day, with off-and-on spitty rain mixed with sun and wind. So, a typical April!

  • Denim sleeveless dress - Only, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in a half-right look in February
  • Shoes - Half Truth Veda, Fluevog; last worn here (4th outfit) in February with a striped sweater dress
  • Coat (below) - Gap, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here last week

I don't usually wear this dress as a dress - I usually wear it open over pants, like a vest.
But I knew I would be doing some trying on of clothes (shocking exactly 0% of you readers), so I went very minimal.

I have a snug camisole on under this, and a short black half-slip.
The dress does up in the front with two snaps, and the tie, and that's it!

My tight got a lot of attention while we were out and about. They were purchased here for $36.00 - the brand is Celeste Stein.
Pockets! I was really glad of these, as my hands got cold at times.

Outerwear - bright pink against a gloomy day!
 Nice with the tights, right?

The stuff:
 Boring but great walking/shopping shoes.

  • Pendant - Miracle, gift from L
  • Earrings - local
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

Oops, forgot to do the bling picture.

Vizzini helped L get ready to go.
"This piece is mine."

We call shoelaces "kitty spaghetti" - he can't resist them.
"Let me help you with this."

He doesn't go after my shoelaces as much as L's.
"I'm too wily for him."

We have to put our guests' lace-up shoes in the closet when they visit!

After our yummy breakfasts, we went for a stroll down Oak Bay Avenue. I've been eager to check out Turnabout on the Ave - it just opened in Victoria! You may recall I am a big fan of Turnabout in Vancouver. Link here 'cause I love! I've also updated My Favourite Victoria Second-Hand Clothing Stores tab (link here) to include this.

The local store is just gorgeous, with two rooms of clothes/shoes/bags (and a menswear section!), plus 4 nice fitting rooms. Lots of staff, natural light, and they offered coffee and tea as well as a sitting area (perfect for the co-shopper who is starting to tire).

L and I checked out the menswear section first, and found him two nice pairs of dress pants: a lightweight mid-blue pair (good for summer) and a small checked grey wool pair (new with tags). Then, I started shopping for me.

L spotted this bright orange jumpsuit and insisted I try it on - and I'm glad he did, because I loved it! It has a nice flutter sleeve, wraparound belt, POCKETS and wide cropped legs.
This is by Kensie and was $30.39. It doesn't look like much on the hanger, but I loved the fit and swoosh of it.

Turnabout specializes in modern (new to 3 years old) clothing, so I was surprised to find this older skirt on the racks. It's gold and purple iridescent fabric, last really popular around 1999-2000.
I think the fact that this is a classic shape helps it read as an newer piece.

It has a slight "paper bag" waist from the buttons on the front and the pleats on the front and back. There are pockets hiding in there too!
It's by Linda Lundstrom, and it's from the internet era, because there's her website! But size 12...this is not a size 12! I checked it carefully for alterations - those buttons were the most suspect, as they pull in a good 4" from the waistband. However, everything else about the seams and structure is symmetrical for the way it fits as is...and it came with a spare button.

It is 100% silk, and is very soft and pouffy to wear.
 Made in Canada!

And it was new with tags, including a spare button. That picture sure looks late 90s/early 00s to me.
She looks in her 40s there, but she's in her late 60s now. Notice that $265.00 retail price tag - I paid $7.99 for this!

As I was trying this skirt on, one of the customers in the store said, "That's my old skirt! I never wore it - I couldn't figure out how to style it!"
She laughed when I told her I'd be wearing it to work. I love this colour-blocked periwinkle, black and white pattern (the back mirrors the front) - the black borders are wide grosgrain black ribbon.

I couldn't find out anything about the brand LS.
 It was $28.99.

As soon as I saw this silk velvet kimono I knew it would be coming home with me.
"This is a present for me, right?"

The front and body of the kimono is one single piece of fabric (the sleeves are the only separately sewn pieces), which feels like silk velvet.
The entire thing is trimmed with beaded fringe. It's total cat-bait.

The underlying fabric has a paisley design printed on it, with  golden/yellow, burgundy and olive-green burn-out pattern in velvet.
I'm not sure how I'm going to wear this, but I love it!

It was the most expensive thing I bought at Turnabout, at $49.99.
"Totally worth it - I will enjoy playing with this."

Turnabout is right across the street from the House of Savoy, so of course we had to go in there! We found L a shirt and a couple of ties (their menswear section is quite small but well-curated), and then I settled in for a good browse.

I found this gorgeous coat on the sale rack, marked down to $75.00 from $150.00.
It is a wool-blend in a "fit and flare" shape with a stand-up collar.

The inside of the collar, underside of the flap pockets and back of the attached rear belt are all done in dark purple velvet.
Dark purple buttons on the cuffs, and down the front.

It was quite bulky and I was cold, so I wore it home and carried my other jacket.
"Take off  my new cat-bed so I can test it, Woman!"

It fits me perfectly.

There's that nice velvet trim under the pocket flap.
The pockets hadn't been unstitched, so I doubt this coat has had much wear.

Inside tags - I like the drawings.
The brand is Sfizio, which I've never heard of.
Ah well, I love it - and that's all that matters!

I have lots of solid-coloured purses, so spotting this multi-coloured one, I thought of how nicely this would go with some of my solid colours.
It's cotton, and the embroidery looks all hand-done.

I love the tassels on the front flap.
 It was $28.00.
 So pretty!!

I tried on a lot of clothes, but I'm really fussy about buying only what I love - this digital print tee made the cut.
I love the flowers and the strong purple tones in it.

It's by Ted Baker and is a cotton-viscose blend.
This was $42.00 - but I know it will be a good piece for my closet. The original retail was around $65-100.

I'm always on the lookout for a good pencil skirt - this one fits like a dream!
I know, it makes my eyes buggy too! The check is actually dark navy blue, dark grey and white.

Very picnic-y! It's by Banana Republic.
It's cotton, fully-lined, with a bit of stretch.

And not even old! It's from Spring 2018 (sent to stores by December 2017).
This was $28.00, and would have retailed for around $70.00.

Exhausted by our shopping, we walked home and crashed for a 2-hour afternoon nap (with cat curled up with us). We hadn't planned on napping that long, so it was rush for us to get ready to go out again!
We rushed around and grabbed a cab to Milestones for dinner with Nick, Karen, Randall and Yvonne before we all cabbed over to Chris and Alison's for Ali's 50th birthday party.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style, so get yourself over there!

  • Dress - Eliza J, consignment; purchased here for $21.50
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2018 with tan and olives
  • Coat (below) - Stop Staring!, thrifted; last worn here in January

It was sunny by the time we left the house, so I risked wearing a sleeveless dress.
I love this classic fit-and-flare shape - it just works for my body.

I added the yellow belt and of course, I had to go matchy with my yellow shoes!
That's a no-brainer with that yellow chiffon band around the bottom of the dress.

Nice deep pockets!
We hung out and danced until the wee hours - Chris was spinning 70s and 80s tunes on vinyl all night! - and cabbed home at 2am.

Outerwear - the shape of the coat worked so well with the dress.
And there's L in the background - he's wearing black and white plaid trousers, a velvet smoking jacket with black satin lapels, a blue dress shirt and a black bow tie, with tri-colour Fluevogs. Styling!

  • Scarf - faux Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Purse - vintage fair
  • Studded leather gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
This is part of my yellow set of accessories, and these waxed yellow cotton shoes are the twins of the orange ones I wore on Friday. Very comfy for dancing, although I did kick them off near the end of the night!

Bold bling:
I chose to wear heavy silver and blue jewelry instead of my yellow pieces - I liked the contrast of the steel/silver.

  • Belt - Liz Claiborne, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Steel cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - Brenda Schoenfeld, 1992, vintage mall
  • Silver/sodalite ring - 1996, Scotland
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

Someone's been very roly-poly today.
"Is it me? I like to roll around."

Unlike many cats, Vizzini's tum is not a "danger zone" - he loves tummy rubs (I even brush his tum!).

He's a very stretchy kitty.
'I am this long!"

 And he's always a blur!

I love that I caught one of his elusive poses.
"I call this Hello Kitty."

Oh, those little white back paws are so cute!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Thank you so much for visiting.

  5. What with bad ass cats and 50th birthday parties, we've had a similar weekend!
The floral jumpsuit is fantastic. I don't have a loo issue with jumpsuits, I keep them on and roll up the leg - I'll leave the rest to your imagination. I bet the new orange one is going to look amazing on as well.
    Vizzini is so funny. xxx
Those funky tights are ace with the denim dress and the blue, white and yellow dress fits you like a dream!
Great finds - the burn-out velvet kimono is a dream although those tassels are serious cat crack. Fancy bumping into the lady who originally owned that skirt, I hope you told her about your blog, she might be able to pick up some style tips!

    1. Those are the best weekends, right, Vix!
Ha! I have thought of doing that with jumpsuits with wider legs - but most of the ones I have had don't allow for that. I'm excited about the orange one - I'm obsessed with orange lately!
Thank you! I love fun tights. I had so much fun twirling in my stripey dress.
Yes, I will be watching Vizzini very carefully around that garment! Nah, she didn't seem to want to chat - and I'm careful about who I give my cards out to!

  7. My oh my, this post was particularly full of inspiring outfits and great shopping finds. Impressive! I keep wondering about trying jumpsuits, but fear they would be such a pain in the bathroom. This one really makes me think about giving it a whirl--just love that look on you!

  8. I'm drooling over that floral jumpsuit. I've been looking for something similar for ages, but no luck so far. I love all the orange accents. The denim sleeveless dress worn with those funky tights is pretty fabulous too, and so is your party outfit. It's impossible to choose a favourite! Wonderful finds as well, especially loving the orange jumpsuit (sigh), the colour blocked skirt, the pretty embroidered purse and that amazing coat! I've lucked out as well this weekend, so I'm not too envious ;-) xxx

  13. I adore everything. That beautiful jumpsuit does look like a dress. I certainly could not wear a jumpsuit. My bladder is way too active. Once I wore a jumpsuit and part of it ended up in the toilet. So as much as I love these, they are not for me.
I love your beautiful striped dress. The color blocked
skirt is also a wonderful piece.
I cannot wait to see you wearing that.

  15. What a fab round up Sheila. And now that I've seen the orange jumpsuit I have to agree that it looks miles better on you than on the hanger. The multi colour H&M jumpsuit is rather fabulous too, especially with all of those orange accessories - well done, great co-ordinating! Your new fit and flare coat was a fab find - love all that velvet trim, very plush!

  16. What a treat of a post! So many goodies here She.
First I just think you are kicking ass in that jumpsuit, although I DO KNOW that going to the bathroom in jumpsuits is quite the experience, specially public ones.
Your finds are envy worthy - the orange jumpsuit, the LS skirt, the velvet kimono (OMG), wow and i can actually imagine the Ted Baker flower top with the gingham skirt.

    1. Thanks, Lorena! Jumpsuits are a challenge, for sure. Ugh, I can't even imagine doing a public washroom in that!

I know, I've been saving the kimono for a good weather day, since I can't wear a coat over it. I did think of that combination, but I think I'll do something else first. :)
