Colour Blocked

Today was a good day - of course, any day is good when you can swan about the office, swooshing majestically.
You know I love to do that. Swoosh!

  • Blouse - Sanctuary, thrifted; last seen here in October 2018 with dubious pants
  • Skirt - LS, consignment; purchased here (new with tags) for $28.99
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last worn here in September 2018 in a Christmassy outfit
  • Leather jacket (below) - Danier Couture, consignment; last seen here in March with a fine skirt

I can see why the previous owner was blocked on how to style this skirt, but I think the key is mixing black and white patterns with it.
I almost went with just a plain black sweater, but then remembered I had this top. I tucked the lower layer of it into the skirt's waistband (which is low on my hips). I liked the colour-blocking effect and the squares of the blouse.

What would you wear with this skirt?
I love that the backside of it is a continuation and mirror of the front.

Such a nice detail. Here's my blue side.
It flaps loudly when I walk - people in my office heard me coming.

They also heard me yelling, as I made the rounds on each floor and hollered at everyone not to microwave fish in the office. Seriously, why do people do that? It smelled like a fishboat!
A good hollerin' always works better than a cranky email. "I shall slap you all with...a herring!"

Outerwear - I love how this cropped jacket looks with this skirt.
I was toasty in the office today, though, so it stayed on my coat rack.

Done up.
Ooh, I look badass. Don't mess with me!

The stuff:
Gawd, I adore these shoes. They are incredibly comfy. They're going to get lots of wear this season.

Black and white bling:
Colour blocking again!

  • Cuff - vintage fair
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Glass/silver earrings - local

My friends, I will be back on Monday with my Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up. A very happy Easter to you! Eat lots of chocolate!

  1. Meghan said In the PBS series Arthur the character Binky found a modern painting that was being displayed incorrectly. Your beautiful skirt reminds me of the painting. I would love it that you could wear a beige or white or neutral top with the skirt and walk the Cat Walk as an Object of living Art. That was a wave to the kitty. Keep inspiring us. You are a true artist for our time and especially women. You are one of the special talents among us.

    1. Well, Anonymous, this is a very special comment and I really appreciate it. I don't wear a ton of beige, but I do agree that white would look great with the skirt. The kitty waves back, ha ha! Thank you again!

  2. That skirt is magnificent! I absolutely love it with the moto jacket, the windowpane check blouse and those super shoes. I bet you felt like a superhero swanning about in that beauty!
Fish in the microwave - yuk! Hollering is far better than a whingey email which annoys the innocent folk and is inevitably ignored by the culprit.
Have a fab Thursday, Sheila! xxx

    1. I really did, Vix! I love the skirt too.

Yup, that's why I holler. People don't read emails, but they sure as heck remember me walking around yelling at them. :)

      Happy long weekend, Vix!

  4. I love how you added a print in your shoes too Sheila! :) I like the print mixing, and you definitely styled this skirt well. I'd go the plain and boring route with a block colour top I think, it wouldn't look as impressive as this outfit though!

    1. I love black and white prints (who knew!?) - they are so easy to add to an outfit. I will probably do a plain black top with a statement necklace next time. It's all in the accessories! Thanks so much, Mica!

  5. Stunning! I love that skirt - it is magnificent. I would love to see it with black top however the window pane blouse is a very nice and light look. Really effective accessorizing right down to the black and white shoes and bracelet. Well done, you look fantastic. I am still on my quest of only buying 2nd hand this year however do not have as much luck as you. Perhaps a trip to the island is in order.

    1. Thank you so much, Robyn! As noted to Mica, I'll probably do it with a black top next. Ooh, if you come over to Victoria, let me know - I would love to take you shopping!

  6. That skirt is absolutely stunning, Sheila, and in my mind's eye I can see and hear you swooshing around the office, and hollering about fish. Or rather, no fish! You did well steering away from plain black and opt for the black and white square print top. I'm loving the cuff and shoes too! To answer your question what I would wear with it, my first thought, strangely enough, was orange ... Have an amazing Easter weekend! xxx

    1. Thanks, Ann! Hee hee - my office both fears and loves me. :)

Yes, I thought of a solid colour, like orange or yellow or red with it, to contrast with the blue! Good idea!

  7. Oh it's a maxi! I love blocked dresses and skirts. But hardly ever wear them myself. Perhaps it's because I can't find any as beautiful as this one!

  11. woww, love this swooshing skirt, it has all the fabulous qualities indeed, bold, beautiful, elegant and artsy too!. Those shoes and the cool jacket are fab pieces too, perfect combo!. I love the windowpane top, and think that any graphic print in black/blue and white will work nicely too, particularly striped tops (I have a weakness for them). But also big florals in black and white, or even a red top with red shoes bookending the ensemble!, lots of possibilities!. For sure you'll find some great combos!
And some yellowing is needed if somebody microwave fish in the office, ugh!
"I shall slap you all with...a herring!" is a great warning! ;DDD

    1. I agree, any graphic black and white should work - I like the idea of florals, and YES, I also thought of bookends of a bright colour.

Ha! They won't dare do it again (for a while).

  12. Fabulous outfit! As for further suggestions, I like all of Señora Allnut's. I'd thought of yellow as well as red, too. And if you have a colour-blocked top with black, white, and any other colour, that'd be good as well. And, when it's colder, your colourblocked coat with red and beige and black and white!
