Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Daisy Friday; Picador Brunch and Co-Shopping; Soft Pastels for Shopping

Hello, my friends - welcome! I hope you've had a fun weekend - mine has been lovely and chill, starting with my bright outfit on Friday.
"I'm a daisy!" I proclaimed to my coworkers. I aim to amuse.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. Go!

  • Jacket - Stella McCartney for Adidas, consignment; purchased here in Vancouver for $46.40
  • Linen top - no label, thrifted; purchased here for $14.95
  • Cords - Banana Republic, thrifted; first worn here in February during a snowstorm
  • Shoes - Matisse; last seen here in February with a lace duster that will be making a reappearance soon

I did take my jacket off a few times during the day (hot flashes).
"Are you telling my fans what a wonderful cat I am?"

This top can be worn either way - this is with the slight scoop neck in the front.

I love the contrast stripe of the sleeves.
"Feel free to admire my noble profile, my soft fur, my fine whiskers."

The sides also have slits - it wrinkled up during the day, but otherwise it was pretty good for linen.

The jacket was great for wearing in the office - it's beautifully finished inside, not a ragged/exposed seam anywhere.
I mostly looked like this all day. I showed the jacket off to all my fashionable colleagues.

The pattern has bits of yellow in the centres of the daisies.
I love these acid yellow cords! They are awesome to wear - the colour is fab. Yellow for the win!

Outerwear - all I needed to do was zip up.
Check it out! I fixed the grommet on my purse (see here before I found it inside the bag).

  • Purse - Concepts, vintage 80s, antique store - first wearing, purchased here for $27.50

It functioned very well for my day at work and walking home afterwards - very comfy and not too hard to get in and out of. The zippers were very smooth.

The stuff:
Old faithful, comfy shoes! I chose these for the black and white pattern, to play with the stripes and daisies.

Steel bling
That's my favourite steel cuff, thrifted years ago. And I've had that ring for over 10 years.

  • Steel cuff - thrifted
  • Bangle - local
  • Ring - Nine West
  • Wood/silver earrings - consignment, Powell River

On Saturday, L and I met up with Chris, Ali, Nick and Karen for lunch at Artisan Bistro. It was super-windy out so I dressed accordingly.
In a ginormous skirt! I met up with my coworker, Mai, afterwards at the WIN on Pandora Ave for a co-shop.

  • Sweater - Tatyana, thrifted; last seen here in March with a tiger on my shoulder
  • Skirt - no label, vintage 50s, thrifted; last worn here in July 2018 with these same boots
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last seen here in January with a plaid dress
  • Leather coat (below) - Danier Leather, thrifted; last worn here in March

This is a really old skirt - it's handpainted on very heavy cotton.
It's giant red lilies surrounding a picador, a man on a horse stabbing a bull, getting it ready for the bullfighter. The 1950s were a different time. They depicted violence and bloodshed on their skirts!

Not the greatest outfit for shopping in, since the skirt is ginormous.
It billowed dramatically in the wind as I walked to town and back.

I know it's handpainted because the colour is applied differently on the front and back.
It's a keeper - I know I will never find anything like this skirt again.

Leather weather!
 Love this rich blue!

  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
Comfy boots for lots of walking and standing.

  • White gold earrings - Frances Jewelers, 10th anniversary gift from L

Both Mai and I found interesting things as we shopped - this is our second time shopping together (first time here in Feb 2017), and we had a nice groove together, which I why I referred to it as a co-shop. I didn't really have to help her; we both pointed out interesting items to the other, and she has a good eye. It was a relaxing experience for both of us.

My feet loved these soft leather black sandals.
 I like the closed heel.

Also the fact that they are unworn.
Softmocs for only $19.95? Most of their sandals are around $80 new.

I finally bit on these black leather studded shoes.
I've seen them many times. They are by Sam Edelman, with a pointy toe, ankle strap, leather, studs - why have I not bought these before?

Because they were $32.95. Too much for all that wear!
They are also slightly damaged on the underside tips of the toes.

But when I saw that they were marked down to $9.95, and well, I had to have them.
This style originally sold for $130.00 new. Score!

I found this lovely scarf by feel - it feels like either silk or a high-quality viscose.
It's nice and big, and I love the baby blue/aqua with the leopard. It was only $7.95.

But my big score of the day was this amazing dress!
My vintage-loving readers are all gasping right now!

It's 100% cotton, amazingly patterned - I mean, LOOK at those colours! The white circles look like bubbles.
I think that $38.95 is overpriced but I LOVED it and it fit (slightly big), so I sucked it up and handed over my money.

I do agree on the price tag's 1960s assessment of this dress, though.
Isn't the back special? A pretty cutout, and a great vintage button on the neck closure. The zipper is nylon/plastic with a metal tab, with very little wear on it.

It's by Marjorie Hamilton, a vintage label I frequently see. I used to have this dress (warning - party outfit!) by her.
I could read a bit of the label - it says "335 Water Street" which is an address in Gastown, Vancouver, near where the Fluevog store is! It also says size 16 (vintage, more like a modern 10-12 US), and confirms that it's cotton. Can't wait to wear this!

Today, I headed to town to get groceries, and a quick pop into Flavour Upstairs and the WIN Boutique on Quadra Street.
I didn't realize until I was uploading my pictures, that I'd totally forgotten to do my stair picture! Oops!

  • Cashmere sweater - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here in a flapper-y outfit in May 2018
  • Skirt - Baraschi, consignment; last seen here in September 2018 in a Christmassy outfit
  • Shoes - Marc Fisher, consignment; purchased here in Vancouver for $28.79
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here in September 2018

I love the fine drape of this coral-orange sweater - it's a really thin cashmere, so I always have to wear a camisole under it.
The skirt is one I picked up last year - I like the polka dots and the mix of colours in the floral.

Outerwear - another year for this marvelous coat.
It's a nice weight for spring and early fall.

  • Scarf - thrifted - first wearing (purchased above for $7.95)

Just about ready to leave the house, keys in hand, earbuds in.
Another step towards upping my bag game: I changed my purse. Go, me!

  • Leather/cloth purse - BCBG, vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
These shoes were pretty good - I love the colour, but they were slightly uncomfortable. They might not be a 4-hour shopping shoe.

Textural bling:
I do adore the studs on them, though!

  • Earrings - Vancouver, consignment; first wearing, purchased here for $

I found some quality things on my shop, although it felt like overall there was way too much fast fashion in both stores, especially at WIN.

I found this scarf by feel in a giant bin and I know it's silk.
It has handrolled edges, so it's got some age on it.

I love the bits of pink in the watery pattern.
It will work well with all my pink coats!

I good quality cardigan is always going to catch my eye.
This one is a glorious red.

No label on it, though.
 It was $22.95.

I found the content tag - only a little wool in it.
But it feels nice and fits well, so here's hoping!

I fell hard for these beauties! I finally found the perfect pair of black leather pants!
I'll be hemming these with a pair of scissors - they are about an inch too long. Don't worry, the hem is already unfinished. What could go wrong? (grin)

They are butter-soft. Look how that leather creases.
They are quite high-waisted, but hooray for pockets. Showing off the double closure.

They are by Classiques Entier, and were $34.99.
Pretty sure they would have been a couple hundred dollars new.

They are fully-lined.
 I'm super-excited about these!

But I also found another awesome item.
"It's true, I am awesome, thank you for noticing."

Actually, it's the red dress.

It is a very flowy polyester crepe, with a thigh-high front slit.
"You bought this for me? How thoughtful."

It's a really bright red.
"I approve. Please lay it on the bed for me to sleep on."

It fits really well, and will be an excellent party or formal gown. It's got lots of drama!

It's by BCBG Max Azria, and was $29.99. They have the black one on their site on sale for $194.00, regular price $387.00, so looks like I really scored on this too!
It's called the Kendal dress, and the colour is Lipstick Red.
I do like that it's machine wash, tumble dry! Of course I will spill something on it.

At WIN, I had a quick look around and found this lovely pink sweater.
"Lovely? Why, yes, I am."

It's by the Gap and was $14.95.
I like the wide neckline and the thin knit.

It's from Summer 2016 and is the KI Slub Scoop in Coral Frost. It sold for $60 new.
It's a mix of cotton, rayon and viscose.

I really liked these pale grey cropped trousers.
Dig that windowpane plaid.

They're Banana Republic, the Avery style, which is the same as those yellow cords I wore on Friday.
They were $22.95. The regular price on this style is $124.00.

They're from Fall 2017 (not even 2 years old yet!), and are 95% wool.
They're very lightweight even though they are full-lined, so I'll definitely be wearing them for spring.

What was your favourite piece of clothing I wore or purchased this weekend?

But now, I have a kitty who needs some attention.
"Oh, NOW you want to cuddle."

He sleeps in his house a lot since I cut up my old robe and put it in there.
"It's my swinging bachelor pad, Woman."

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend - thank you for stopping by!

  1. Your daisy outfit makes me so ready for Spring. The colors, pattern mixing, and linen make me smile. The soft coral outfit with shades of blue was also lovely and your new scarf and purse were wonderful flourishes. I think your "groovy" mod 60's sheath is my favorite score from your recent shopping.

  9. Wow! That Marjorie Hamilton dress is stunning, what a fabulous print. I'm guessing that you can't wait to wear it. As for your outfits, it's a toss up between the daisy outfit (love, love, love those cords!) and that amazing bullfighter skirt. Those colours are magnificent. A true work of art in spite of the rather gory subject. Good to see the reappearance of that marvelous textured coat! xxx

  12. Absolutely love your style and your sweet Vizzini! A short time ago you wore floral tights that you said were getting worn with holes. Would you happen to know the brand? I would love to find those or similar ones. Thanks!

    1. Thanks so much, Rosebud! I bought those tights in a thrift store, new/unworn, but with no tags. I suspect they were a high-end brand like Pamela Mann or London Look, but can't confirm that, sorry. Good luck!

  13. I totally love your yellow and daisies outfit, love the mixed prints in matchy colors and love those pants and those shoes too! Yellow for the win!
Love your picador skirt (even bullfighting is Not my cup of tea! but you're right, the 50's were so different!) also love your leather jacket and have a laugh about wearing something appropriate for a windy day, as I am used to do it too!
And I think that your 60's dress looks Absolutely Fabulous, totally understand that you couldn't let it in the shop!! wowww
Also lovely last outfit, those colors look so summery and cool, and you accessorized it so nicely (the scarf, the bag and the shoes go so well), love all the layers of colors and textures!, and your coat!. Coolness!
Looking forward to see all those new purchases 'in action'!

    1. Thanks so much, Monica! I agree: yellow forever!
It gets windy here sometimes - you need to plan for these things. Can you imagine someone putting a picador on a skirt NOW? The outrage!
Thank you - I had to buy it, regardless of the price.
I have to look good when I shop, but also be able to try things on - such a challenge sometimes.

  14. The Marjorie Hamilton dress is GROOVY BABY!! Love the psychedelic pattern and colours. I love the acid yellow cords with the white and (dark grey?) prints. I never find any pants in great colours like that here. Your voluminous matador skirt is one of my faves - those 50's circle skirts are hard to find, and they are extremely pricey, so you have a true gem there.

  15. Oh so many goodies to comment on in just one post :)
First, the striped top+grey daisy jacket look I'd steal from you, you know in case it fit me and you would not let me borrow it. It's AMAZINGGGGG and everything just fits so well.
I screamed a little when I saw "THE MATADOR" skirt ! it's such a statement piece it cannot be forgotten, even if I loathe bullfighting.
I think that the new leopard print scarf magically matched the polka dot flower skirt. Who would have ever thought it would look this good ?
Oh and I see that you're wearing more hand bags ;) glad you were able to fix the black one.

    1. So nice to hear from you, Lorena! Thank you - I loved that mix. The picador skirt is so "of its time" but it's such a cool piece. I am loving the leopard scarf - it goes with everything! Yes, making that a 2019 mission. More bags!
