Jan 31st - Outfit #28 - The Last Outfit

Holy smokes, you guys! This is it! The last day of my year-long challenge!

That's a lot of pressure for an outfit to bear.
I wanted to end this capsule year with an outfit that would sort of summarize the year (again, no pressure). What we have here:

  • mostly neutrals (black, olive)
  • bright legs
  • fistfuls of rings
  • colour
  • leather
  • short (pushing that envelope for a 45 y.o. blogger)

It's a little rock & roll, but still (I hope) on the classic/classy side of a business casual outfit, and I think it shows that I've got an artistic bent.

This is my trusty olive blazer, which I last wore here with a sparkly top, over my black leather dress (last worn here on my long weekend, last outfit). I got a few "is that a leather dress?" comments from people today, but it's not the first time I've worn it to work!
I have a long-sleeved thin layering tee (not part of the capsule) worn underneath to keep the top of the dress modest and keep me warm. I ended up roasting all day! I really wanted to wear this lovely huge silk scarf that the always-awesome Megan Mae sent me ages ago, but I just cooked in it. I didn't wear the scarf all day. However, I'm headed off to Book Club shortly, so I'll put it back on.

The boots are the much-favoured black Gabor ones, last seen here (2nd outfit) not two days ago - shocking! - with my ribbon skirt.

Jacket (RW & Co., consignment), layering tee (Plum), dress (Danier Leather, thrifted), boots (Gabor), earrings (EricaWeiner).

Still doped to the gills on cold medication, but I felt a lot more chipper today. Thanks so much for the good vibes from all of you readers out there! You're the best.

And speaking of the best...here we are! At the end of the challenge. I will try to get the January summary up as soon as I can, but we have a busy weekend ahead. I'll also be doing tons of summarizing and analyzing of the spreadsheet, so you can expect about a post a week on those - and of course, we'll be voting for the favourite Wild Card Outfit! Thank you for your patience as I get stuff written (I do have a very full life!), and thank all of you for following along on my journey this year. It's been really fun to share this with you.

A few people have asked me, "What's next?" Well, that's the big question, isn't it? I thought about this long and hard, and decided that I wanted to incorporate some of new-found self-knowledge about my style into my shopping. 'Cause I love to shop - and I'm not going to stop. Of course, I'll continue to shop second-hand first and locally and ethically-produced if new. But I need to see how well I learned my lessons...so...

One. Two. Three.

Every time I get a new item, I will challenge myself to wear it three times in a week, to see how well it incorporates into my wardrobe. Each outfit will be up for voting  by YOU (yay!): do you like it or not? After 3 wears, if the outfits created with the new item garner more no votes than yeses, it's gone (I retain final say and veto power, naturally).

Sound like fun?

  4. No pressure? Indeed! I don't know how you've done it. Incredible, Sheila. Well done. You are brave to do the voting thing. But I suppose you would also need a vote button that says, "They are both divine. Both must stay!"
I'm glad you're feeling more perky.

  5. The scarf looks totally awesome! I don't blame you for not wearing it all day though. One of the reasons I sent it on - it was too much for me! It is some lovely colors though.

Major congrats on finishing your Year of Capsule! You've done such an amazing job, very inspiring to many of us bloggers who are trying to curb spending and remix more.

Sounds like an awesome next challenge, especially since it will force you into remixing that new piece right away. Maybe I need to start doing that... only with pieces that I've already got.

  6. Oooh, we still get to vote, yay!
This last outfit surely shows your artistic bend as does ALL of your outfits, because you are very creative. Love that scarf and the pea green color peeking out under the sleeves of your trusty jacket.

  8. Excellent outfit for your final post! It looks really classy in the first picture and sort of rock and roll in the second picture. I love that scarf, and the way you picked up the colors in your tights.

Ooooo, so we'll get to vote now! What fun! And I had no idea you liked to shop ;)

  9. Wonderful last outfit to finish your challenge - well done on completing it! :D

I really like that scarf :)

Your idea about wearing a new items 3 ways to decide if it's a keeper is a great one, looking forward to that. I need to be more adventurous with how I wear items, I try to wear them once in the week I've bought them...and sadly there are a few that never made that small ask!

  10. The skirt and boots are very sexy....but a modest sexy. Love the leather skirt. I wish I could wear one, but I can't find the right fit right now. This is a very pretty outfit on you, Sheila. I'm looking forward to seeing your next phase.

  12. Congratulations!!! I'm glad you're feeling even a bit better too, the sparkle's back in your eyes. What a seriously amazing, beautiful scarf; great outfit altogether! I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the whole Challenge, and your Wild Card outfit vote (no pressure! of course just as you're able, busy lady!), and am excited to see what kinds of things you'll be wearing post-Challenge. Hooray!!! Kudos to you for this incredible thing you accomplished.

  17. Sheila, you are amazing! When you said you were going to do this I thought you'd finally bitten off more than you could chew - but you've done it! (Already? Are you sure? It's gone really quickly!)

Now then. What did you wear on your first day of freedom? I bet you are now completely overwhelmed!

Looking forward to the 123 :-)

  18. A great way to finish your year-long challenge, Sheila! Very sexy but elegant too. I bought a leather skirt this week (from a charity shop, of course), never had one before, but I am thinking it might be your influence!
Your idea for a new outfit challenge sounds interesting, but I am glad you are reserving the right of veto - personal style is just that, personal. I don't expect everyone to like what I wear, but I don't want them to tell me I shouldn't wear it! The wearing-it-3-times bit will be a really good way to road test the versatility of new items, I like that idea very much. You are clever at this! xxxx

  19. I cannot believe the whole year has passed already. WOW!!!!

I am so impressed with your dedication and commitment to the challenge, and how much you have learned and taught me. Wow, thank you for sharing the journey with us. I am dying to read all your various wrap=up posts!

And a fantastic outfit to end the challenge with, to boot. Love all the greens with the purple. It's a sexy look too!

  20. You definitely ended with a bang. This is one of my fave outfits of yours. That scarf is amazing.

Also, kudos to you for sticking to the year-long challenge. I think I would have lasted a week and a half.

  21. Ok, it was a heavy load for the outfit to bear - but your outfit blasts it out of the water! Great combination, and it reminds me again that I want a leather skirt. The colour combo in the scarf is beautiful, good job Megan Mae. And great job Sheila for seeing the epic challenge all the way through.

  22. I love the short skirt with tights! Today I wore a short black second hand Eileen Fisher skirt with black patterned tights and short black La Canadienne boots. The tights make the short skirt work. With the coming of spring and summer I would hesitate to wear the same skirt bare legged.
