As September winds down, I'm starting to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. Autumn is my favourite time of year (my birthday!!) and I've always naturally gravitated towards fall colours.
Imagine my disappointment when I was around 13 and had my "colours done" at my Aunt Cathy's (it was a mother/daughter party with about 8-10 of us) only to discover that I was a Spring! I wanted to be an Autumn!
The book that "colours" thing was based on was "Colour Me Beautiful" - my mom had a copy (for all I know, she may still have it!), and I used to pore over it, studying the shades. Okay, you have to go here and scroll down and check out the pictures! It's too funny - that's the version of the book I remember.I did art in school and art classes in the summer, so I was familiar with all the shades of colours, but it was how they were grouped by season that fascinated me, and learning about warm and cool shades. And as I said, I was drawn to the autumnal palette. I've believed for a long time that if you love a colour, you should wear that colour - I've always loved yellows, oranges and reds. I recall being annoyed by all the pink I was "supposed" to be wearing as a Spring.
But onto the outfit - I digress!
This is my stretchy kimono top again (last seen here on the weekend), along with a rust-coloured cami (not part of the capsule), and my coral linen-blend skirt (last worn here).
And because it's now technically fall, I added the lacy fishnet brown tights - and yes! with open-toes! It felt a little weird and I had to adjust the toes frequently, but otherwise, I thought these wedges (last seen here) worked fine with tights.
The stuff:
My new red coral and silver earrings and my older matching bracelet.
Top (Mexx, thrifted), cami (InWear), skirt (Rocket, thrifted), shoes (Locale), bracelet (Plum), earrings (locally made).
You are SO an Autumn! I want a kimono top - and lacy tights. Which I did have 'til The Teen borrowed them :P
ReplyDeleteI remember that book, thanks for linking it up so I could remember it better. You look like a million bucks, Canadian, in Autumn colors. And I agree, wear the colors you love.
ReplyDeleteOoh, the lacy tights, love those.
I think the reds, oranges and yellows are very flattering on you. Pink? Not seeing that so much. I love your tights! Especially love them paired with the red shoes...Oh la la!
ReplyDeleteThat was a wonderful digression. I checked the link and when I see the word WRONG I cringe. I'd say you do autumn fabulously well today!! Your choice of hosiery is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's amazing how the earrings match the bracelet so perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI too read that Colour book! ... I think of you as an Autumn btw maybe because of the colours you wear?
I think you look marvelous in reds, oranges, and yellows! I think according to that I'm an autumn? I dunno. I haven't seen more than an inch of my natural color in over a decade.
ReplyDeleteI think the wedges look great with tights. Hooray for fall!
I'm "winter". It had to do with skin undertones, right? I remember being "tested" under a light of some kind :)
ReplyDeleteThere ARE tones in each color family, of course. I "can" wear red, but it "shouldn't" have an orange undertone in it, etc. It DOES make a difference and after awhile I think selecting the "right" shades comes naturally.
You have obviously come to that point with your "autumn" colors! WOWSERS on those tights!
I love the colours in this outfit, and they look so good on you!
ReplyDeleteI think you should keep wearing what you love - no matter what a book says! Although I can imagine as a teenager it would have been annoying to be told you should wear something other than what you wanted to ;)
What an interesting color combo. Don't you just love to play with Fall colors. By the way, I mentioned your blog in mine. I hope you don't mind. I have gotten so many ideas and seen so many things I love. You do a great job.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Judy! I really appreciate the mention, and your kind words.
DeleteOMG I remember that book. I went to a color party and they told me I was a Spring, too. And I somewhat LOATHE pinks. Like you I always gravitated to autumn colors. Rusts, teals, caramel, warm greens!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the outfit!!! Those tights are so cool!!!
Look at those gorgeous legs! I love the lace tights with the open-toed shoes. And I totally remember the "find out your colors" rage.

Oh beautiful! I love the colors here!! And wow, those shoes are so awesome - very unique! And I love your tights. It's been warmer here so we haven't had need of tights but I want to start wearing them again!
ReplyDeleteI remember that book! My Auntie had it. I also wanted to be an Autumn, but I had my colours done this year (January/Feb I think) by a CMB consultant - they don't seem to do seasons any more. Anyhow I am still not Autumn-like - I am clear & cool (due to high contrasting skin/hair/eyes & my eyes being a very clear green). Apparently I was difficult to assig she could see why I wanted to be Autumn. I'm not a slavish devotee, I have kept some browns & orangey stuff because I like it, but I look *so* much better in the colours in my swatch book. And I feel much more confident now I don't look inexplicably sickly in some colours & I feel more empowered to try bold colours!
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, that was long. I love those shoes. Those and the turquoise Fluevogs, I covet.
p.s. Thank you so much for the Google Follower tip, I worked out how to do it.
I love how the colours of all your outfit elements are drawn from the print of that great, great top. Lovely! Nice textures too. Big props for assembling your jewelry set over time, these things make Matchy Brain so very happy.
ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed the dreaded Summer! (dun dun duuuuunnnnnn ...) It's the one season I can't recall ever hearing / reading that anyone wishes they were - all those grotty pastel shades, ugh! As a miserable goth teen, I was mortally offended, especially since my sister got to be a coveted Winter. :) My mom took her Spring and ran with it, the corals, salmons, and turquoise. I love the Autumn shades on you as well as the Springs, you wear so many colours amazingly well whether or not they fit certain "seasons."
