Look out! It's Dress Week!
This is an "all
inclusive" Dress Week this time around. If you'd like to participate, please
drop me a link by the end of the week (so, by Saturday morning, m'kay?)
or email me your ONE dress that you'd like to show off to the
blogosphere!
Today, I have to be brief, as I need to bus back to town shortly to get picked up in our "Caro-van" to drive out to Book Club. Our lovely hostess Kathryn lives out in what I refer to as the boonies. Hee.
Is is a dress? Yes! That's my blue dress that I last wore here (2nd outfit), layered underneath this linen-blend coral skirt. The dress is unlined and is a slinky polyester, so it doesn't add much bulk underneath a skirt, and presto! I get a blue top in my capsule. I'm so clever.
I've had the skirt since March 2011. I thrifted it for $5.00 - the brand is Rocket. I first wore it here in a not-so-great combination (that cardigan is strictly non-public now). Aw, scroll down for a great picture of our dear Inigo...I miss him.
I've only worn it two other times: here in May 2011 (with a jacket and shoes that I no longer own), and here almost exactly a year ago, when I was trying to avoid jury duty (it was cancelled!).
I quite liked the vivid blue with the coral, the red shoes, and the bright yellow bangle.
I last wore the shoes here. These always go over well in the office. I tried to tie all the colours together by wearing this vintage 80s Adrienne Vittadini silk scarf as a belt. I bought it here for $20.00.
My company did a global fitness walk today: half an hour out for a walk, all over the world. I'm the ambassador for my office, so I led a group of 55 people on a lovely jaunt through the city, followed by a BBQ in our back parking lot. I will admit that I did NOT wear the red suede platforms for this venture!
I wore my cropped jean jacket (not part of the capsule as outerwear) and my Air Walk groovy sneaks. I got them in an office clothing swap that I organized back in May here. They were free! They're also non-capsule, as my transportation.
Jean jacket (Ann Taylor Loft), dress (Just...Taylor, consignment), skirt (Rocket, thrifted), shoes (Locale), scarf (Adrienne Vittadini, vintage 80s), earrings (Plum), bangle (thrifted), sneakers (Air Walk, swapped), ring (Wendy Brandes).
Wow what a super smart way to wear your dress love this idea and it looks great what a clever gal you are!! You look pretty in blue ~Love Heather
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea! Getting double duty out of the dress. It looks gorgeous with the coral and works awesome with your swapped sneakers. Having a company walk sounds like a fun experience.
ReplyDeleteI adore your brilliant secret dress! Also how the outfit works so well with your excellent sneakers. But man, those red suede babies - I am always so glad to see them!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Aww, Inigo's whiskery happy-cat face! Sweetness.
You look so hip and my question is what is the current book read for your club?
ReplyDeleteWe just finished Jennifer Egan's "A Visit from the Goon Squad" (excellent, highly recommended), and our next book is Woody Allen's "Mere Anarchy."
DeleteLovely and creative as always but... that's the third dress in your self-proclaimed "Dress Week" that you've hid/disguised as a skirt or shirt. While that's excellent creativity/flexibility, it doesn't end up feeling like "Dress" week, exactly... you dont LOOK like you're wearing a dress! Disguise your dress week? Fooled ya with a dress week? :)
ReplyDeleteOh, heavens! Isn't part of the fun of dresses creating different ways to wear them? I'm rather limited by a capsule, and most of these dresses I've had and worn a few times (and have worn "as dresses") before. Hopefully, you'll like today's dress.
DeleteI love the dress as a top, especially with the sneakers! Here is my link for the Dress Week - http://dressupforlife.blogspot.in/2012/09/dress-week-of-horror.html :D
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit with the sneaks!!!
ReplyDeleteThe coral and blue together is stunning!
OK. I'm playing catch up on your dress week posts....I have to say I love that English-bought Spanish lady one the best! The royal blue dress is great, also. And of course (though not in the capsule) I'm always a sucker for a great jeans jacket....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Those red sandals are so cool with the unique pattern, and the skirt color is brilliant. I never think of doing the "secret dress" thing. I must look at my wardrobe more creatively, although I'll never match Jean at Dross into Gold :P
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love the fact that you layered the two items! I haven't tried a skirt over a dress before, but might have to try it sometime, you make it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteCool sneakers!
ReplyDeleteDang girl, you look amazing or as the cool chics say TotsAmaz! (Totally amazing.) Love those red platforms.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, I owned one of those Adrienne Vittadini scarves back in the 80s. Mostly, I wore it to hold the spiral perm back off my face. You're doing MUCH BETTER with it, heh.
ReplyDeleteBlue and coral are such great color pals...you showcase them so well! But, I am crushing hard on those shoes! THOSE SHOES! Gorgeous cut up top, and grand hue of red! They deserve their own post!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours in this outfit! You always wear colour so well! I like your point about the dress being thin enough to wear under a skirt - I think that's where I go wrong when I try layer a top or a skirt over a dress it just doesn't look right. I'll need to try harder to find the right pieces for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry Sheila, I can't find your email anywhere, I hunted for a bit on the blog. Is it okay to leave a like to my dress week picture here? You don't have to publish it. It's http://awayfromtheblue.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/jeanswest-aztec-print-dress-mulberry.html
ReplyDeleteMy current favourite dress, and although it's not the best photo of it, it's the only one I've taken of it this week for dress week :)
Mica.
My email's under View My Complete Profile - but this is fine, Mica! :)
DeleteThanks!
Oh! I'm so sorry about Inigo... guess I missed that post.
ReplyDeleteI really love the image of those shoes leading the eye to that lovely skirt... like the one color naturally "leads" to the other.
