Jungle Blazer and Fin Skirt Regret-Me-Nots

We had Daylight Savings Time on the weekend, and as usual it resulted in a jet lag-like feeling on Monday morning. SO. EARLY.
My outfit for Monday fell together when two "forget-me-not" items sat together while I was cleaning out of my giveaway pile last week.

  • Jungle-print blazer - Zara, consignment; last worn here in April 2023 with blue and Adidas culottes
  • Shirt - Denver Hays, consignment; last seen here with grey and sparkly preppy in December 2023
  • Skirt - TK Style, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) briefly to take Vizzini to the vet in March 2023
  • Shoes - Arnold Churgin, vintage, thrifted; last seen here in August 2023 with paisley
  • Coat (below) - Auckie Sanft, vintage 60s, vintage fair; last worn here in January

I'd put the jungle-print blazer aside, but WHY? I'd worn it 6 times since purchasing it for $30,  a solid cost-per-wear of $5.
It wasn't worn out or damaged. But when I looked back at the last couple of outfits, I really didn't like them that much at the time, and I think that displeasure spilled over. [I did let go of the black Adidas culottes and the Dress of a Thousand Nipples]

It was good to rest from it for several months, and then experience that happy "Oh, yeah!" rush when I saw it again. That told me it had to return to my closet - it's a regret-me-not!

I also pulled out this lovely thick cotton knit skirt, which I paid $8.00 for back in 2016 and had worn 11 times. Was I tired of it, or bored of the colour?
I've always liked the giant "fin" on the side of it.

It's nice and stretchy and warm for a blustery cold day.
I didn't wear this skirt with colour very often over its previous history (once with a cobalt blue, and once with true red), and that's the trick to keep me excited about my clothes. Too many neutrals make Sheila sleepy.

Speaking of sleepy, it sure felt like 5:30am when I woke up, and 7am felt way too early to go to work.
At least it was sunny in the morning and I had the Fuzzy Flamingo to envelop me in her soft hug.

It was gloomy and extremely windy on the way home.
It blew right through all my layers. Brrrr!

Accoutrements:
I want it to be spring so badly that I'm wearing things that are too light!

  • Scarf - Fluevog
  • Gloves - thrifted

The stuff:
I thought I'd have to give up these shoes due to the super-pointy toes, but my TLC on Toe last year seems to have worked well on ridding my feet of corns. Hooray! I love my Barbie shoes.

Animal bling:
Two new-to-me accessory items join the party.

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Pink stone cuff - Loren Hope, consignment; purchased here for $49.99
  • Brass/turquoise/pearl cuff - Myka, consignment
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jeweler's, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Scarab ring - Heidi Daus, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Leopard earrings - consignment
  • Frog pin - thrifted; purchased here for $5.95
  • Lizard pin - gift from Cat

I'd forgotten about the wee frog - I store my new-to-me jewelry in a shallow box lid, and he slipped under the bottom! Sneaky frog!

  1. I can't believe you put that jungle print blazer into the giveaway pile! So glad to read you've seen sense and it's back in your closet. I do get you, though. I've had instances when I found it hard to satisfactorily style a particular garment, even though I genuinely loved it. It does indeed sometimes help to give it a rest. You definitely nailed it with this outfit, as it looks absolutely perfect with the giant fin skirt, the pink shirt and your Barbie shoes! And it's always a joy to see the Fuzzy Flamingo! xxx

  2. Ditto, I agree with Polyester Princess regarding the jungle print blazer! The blazer and pink top look like they were meant to be together, and the Barbie shoes, oh yes, glad your toes were ready and raring to wear them!
As I get ready (hopeful) for the closet switch in my very small closet, I'm thinking if certain items should be given a rest, as you put it, or if they should just be donated. Everything that was worn this winter will be kept; it's the unworn items that are questionable. Maybe one more year…
Cheers to the coming of Spring! ~Laurie

  3. I agree with everyone. The blazer is a keeper!
The skirt looks like a challenge to style with that fin, but of course, you've pulled it off super stylishly.
I've made no secret of my love for the Fuzzy Flamingo - such a great colour! x

  5. Yep, the blazer is ace. I can imagine it being worn in that flashy Eurotrash way, with wet look leggings, a cropped black tee shirt and huge D&G sunnies. The Fuzzy Flamingo is always a joy. xxx
