Non-Mom-Day, So a Wee Shop in Blue and Purple Ensued

Welcome back, my friends! Unfortunately, no Mom-Day this week, as Mom's got another muscle pull that she's dealing with. Very disappointing, but we still had a lovely long chat in the morning.

Since I was mentally prepared to go out...I did! I headed to town for a browse through a few of my favourite shops - Fluevog, Vintage After Death, Flavour Upstairs and finally, the big WIN store.
This is how most people saw me - I walked to town and bussed home (my feet were tired).

  • Leather coat - Jeno de Paris, vintage 70s, consignment, Powell River; first worn here in February for a Fort Street shop
  • Top - Marc O'Polo, thrifted; purchased here for $9.97
  • Skirt - Sonia Rykiel, thrifted; last seen here in December 2023 for Christmas Day
  • Boots - Original Samedi, Fluevog; last worn here (4th outfit) in February for a grocery shop

Since this is the first wearing of the long-sleeved organic cotton tee, here are "coat off" pics.
It's a bit big on me, but good for casual wear.

Not sure if I'll keep it or not.
But I don't have to decide now. It'll go into my spring/summer closet.

I adore this blue leather coat.
I ended up overheated - it got sunny! - and tied the scarf to my purse for most of the day.

Incognito.
I stopped in at the Fluevog store first, to scout for my anniversary shoes - L and I will be heading to Vancouver soon for our annual pilgrimage, which we've been doing for close to 20 years.

There were many lovely styles - how will I choose? I had fun checking them all out, and chatting with the staff (Dani, Rae-Ann and Wayne).
By the time I got there, I was way too hot to be done up like this. Gloves, pshaw.

Accoutrements:
I ended up with the gloves in my purse all day.

  • Leather purse - Sonia Rykiel, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Fluevog
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
These boots are comfy, but I was still happy to get them off after four hours of shopping!

Minimal bling:
I don't like wearing a lot when I'm trying stuff on.

  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment
  • Fulvia Ring/lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

From Fluevog, I cut through Market Square to Vintage After Death and had a thorough browse.
This hinged white and blue cuff is probably from the 80s.

It was $8.00.
I like it!

I also found this sleeveless mock-neck in a gorgeous shade of Creamsicle orange.
I had a long tube dress like this back in 1986 that was my go-to club dress for dancing the night away. I wore it with black satin classic heels.

I love the vintage Pierre Cardin label. This is a 100% cotton knit - all washable.
This is likely from the early 90s, the last time peach was in fashion - I think it's due for another go, don't you? This was $25.00 and yes, it says, "Totally Spies!"

I headed back to Lo-Jo (Lower Johnson Street) and had a good look around in Flavour Upstairs. I tried on a ton of stuff, but only one thing really rang my bell.
What a pretty dress! It ties at the shoulders, so you can adjust it perfectly, and that waist fits me like a glove.

It's by Betsey Johnson, and I loved it enough that I was happy to pay $44.99 for it.
I saw red and white versions of this online for around $75-100.

I picked up this shirt for L.
He's getting into short-sleeved season.

The pattern is very mid-century modern. The black section is where the buttons are - the placket is covered.
I think that says Orage?

I think it's from the early 00s.
Made in India, and only $19.99. L loved it.

I then headed over to the big WIN store, and had a thorough look through everything.
I couldn't resist this scarf, which is GINORMOUS, by the way - it measures 54" x 54" - huge!

I like the Greek key pattern around the outer edges, with those faces in every corner.
The centre is a mass of brown roses, and the rest is random pink, red, and brown geometric patterns.

It's a light woven fabric, which feels like a thin wool or acrylic, and the edges are raw. It was $9.95.
I suspect it might be a tourist scarf from Greece.

I bought this dress to consign - it's too big on me, but I couldn't leave her behind!
It's a glorious bright pink.

With a V-back and shawl cowl that hangs down the back.
It's very flattering on.

It's Trina Turk, made in California of recycled polyester.
I spotted these for between $238-268.00 online.

For me, only $24.95- worth the modest investment for a bigger return.
Or, one of my friends might want it, so I'll sell it for $30.00.

I saw this jacket the last time I was at WIN.
These trapeze-shaped coats look horrendous on me, so this one is also going up for consignment.

It's got pockets, and is a nice woven cotton-blend.
Customized buttons are always nice to see.
There has been a glut of Luisa Cerano clothes in the second-hand shops for about a year.

A local shop must have gone out of business.
I like the ragged cuffs and hem.

Even the inside is nice - that's the reverse of the front weave. The sleeves are fully-lined.
I was taken with the bright yellow on the seam-binding.

As noted, it's Luisa Cerano, and I will certainly make my money back.
The star-punch in the tag means it was half off, so I paid $13.47 for this.

I waffled over this purchase, but finally bit, as I love the bright crinkly polyurethane finish on this raincoat.
The cuffs are slightly ruffled, and the collar is also puffed a bit.

Like I would leave it behind for $14.95!
It's by BB Dakota, a brand that was popular around 2007-ish. I spotted one online for $48.00.

This was my most expensive purchase of the day - a brown leather waterfall coat.
It does not do up - no button, zip or hooks. Once I got home, I tried belting it, which looks interesting.

The cuffs were weird - like someone had them tacked up to make the sleeves shorter.
Oh, that's exactly what they did!
I picked those stitches out and now the arms are nice and long.

Pockets!
I love the chocolate-brown colour of it.

$62.95 for a leather Eileen Fisher coat felt like a steal - that brand is pricey. This is a very generous Small, by the way.
Their spring/summer jackets retail between $299 and $495.00!

I wasn't sure about this skirt, but bought it anyway - and I'm glad I did.
Black silk and viscose velvet is the fabric, and it's fully-lined, with the lining being sewn to the hem at the bottom.

The waist is a very wide elastic, and the skirt overall is stretchy and feels good on. Dig that gold back zipper!
It zips both ways.

It's by Rachel Roy "Signature".
I'm pretty sure it cost more than the $7.47 I paid.

And I found this rose in the jewelry case.
What is it??

If you guessed a belt buckle, you are correct, well done.
It was a whopping $1.95 and L was thrilled with it.

And here's a picture of a beautiful forsythia bush that lives in my 'hood.
I took this pic as I was walking to town.

Well, it wasn't the day that I'd planned, but I had a good introverting day anyway. And now, I'm signing off for the weekend - and we have lots of exciting things planned, so don't forget to stop in on Sunday so I can regale you with tales of adventure!

Please send Mom some healing vibes - and thank you so much for stopping by!

  1. Hugs and healing vibes to you Helen! Oh gosh, muscle strains and pulls are uncomfortable and frustrating. May yours be well on its way to full healing and kudos to you for knowing the best cure is rest.

Sheila, your shopping hauls intrigue me and I look forward to seeing how the orange mock-neck top, black skirt, and blue dress are all styled. As for the pink dress, of course it caught your eye - isn't it plank?! The red raincoat isn't my taste in style (ruffles, no way!) but the color and sheen are sure to be an antidote on a rainy gray day, perhaps even better than the traditional yellow raincoat. The brown leather jacket is a beauty but I've never gotten the appeal of a jacket or sweater that doesn't have the ability to close; I usually want the warmth to wrap around the front of my torso as well as the back.

We have a full day of rain forecast for tomorrow (Saturday) so the sandbag will come out to divert the rain towards the road and not our house! Hurricane Ida of a few years ago is the first time in our 35 years of living here that there was water in the basement. Here's hoping you have a glorious weekend not just in fun but also in weather!
    Cheers, Laurie

  2. Sending healing vibes to your lovely mum! I hope you'll both be enjoying a Mum's Day very soon.
Your shopping outfit is great. I like that Breton style top on you a lot. I wore mine to death during lockdown and ended up selling them on which I'm kind of regretting now!
The Greek shawl is fab, I love the print on that beauty. The hinged bangle looks like something Mum used to wear in the late 1970s, I'd have snaffled that, too!
What a gorgeous photo of the Forsythia, a true sign of Spring!
    Have a fabulous weekend! xxx

  3. I'm sorry to read that your Mom's got another muscle pull and I hope she'll soon be well enough for another Mom-Day adventure!
I love all the purples and blues going on in your outfit, and as always I'm swooning over those fabulous boots!
And didn't you do well on your wee shop - seeing all your finds makes me feel less guilty about mine :-) Loving the Betsey Johnson dress, L.'s mid-century patterned shirt and the crinkly red raincoat in particular! And isn't that Forsythia bush a sight for sore eyes? xxx

  8. Hope your mum heals up soon! I know muscles can be painful - I've been dealing with some nerve and muscle damage in my shoulder (hence not being on the computer or in blog land much) and it's taking a long time to heal up. I'm confident your mum will be up and around much faster! :)

There is so much to love in this post - and many apologies for missing so many of your awesome outfits lately! I really like the blue and purple together with the coat, bag and boots in the outfit you wore and I love the burgundy and white striped top as I have a very similar one! It's not been worn for a while, it's often too warm for it here, it's very cosy and thick!

As always, you have bought so many beautiful things but I really like that brown waterfall jacket and I can't wait to see how you wear that red coat - what a find!
