Buffalo Safety Pins, Orange and Leopard

Sunshine is here, and my 5-day long weekend is upon me! Let the celebrations commence!

Kicking off my mini-vacay is a long-overdue appearance of my buffalo safety pin jacket.
Orange is one of my favourite colours, and of course, leopard is a neutral. What a winning combination!

  • Jacket - Gianfranco Ferre, Spring 2003, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in February 2023
  • Sweater - Pierre Cardin, consignment; purchased here for $25.00
  • Skirt - Ganni, consignment; last worn here earlier this month for shopping with Ariana
  • Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) in February with sneaky Adidas

This is my 7th wearing of it after purchasing for $185.00 from the Velvet Crease here in July 2019. There are some good details pics of it there, plus a picture of how it went down the runway 21 years ago.
At the time, that was the 2nd most expensive piece I'd ever bought secondhand. Ha, how far I've come.

So many safety pins! Those are custom and they hold the back seams together.
The jacket weighs a ton because of them all. There must be hundreds on there.

I d liked how the Creamsicle shade of this new-to-me sweater looked with darker shades of orange.
First wearing of it, and I liked it, although it stretched out over the day.

I do love the colour, though.
A good quality cotton sweater in a pretty colour. I have always liked peach as a colour.

This is how I looked for most of the day.
Being my last before my time off, I had to cram three days' work into one, so I barely took a break.

Outerwear - I needed a hat in the morning, as the grey clouds threatened rain.
The orange gloves made my heart happy.

The jacket is very snug - it's always been that way - so I wore it open on the way home.
Thumbs in the ginormous skirt pockets.

Accoutrements:
I love this lily-pad Lanvin scarf.

  • Hat - roadside find
  • Scarf - Lanvin, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Gloves - consignment

The stuff:
These shoes have been an excellent buy - I wear them a lot.

Orange bling:
I'd forgotten about this orange snakeskin belt - Yves Saint Laurent!

  • Belt - Yves Saint Laurent, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Amber/silver bracelet - consignment, Powell River
  • Snakeskin bangle - fake Gucci, Italy, gift from Mom
  • Crystal earrings - Plum
  • Amber/silver thumb ring - consignment
  • Silver/amber ring - Past Times, gift from L, c. 1995
  • Necklace - Plum

  1. This outfit says “Happy Spring” to me as the browns of winter gently morph to spring showers and soft colors (which will soon enough bring forth vivid color) - a wonderful combination!

  3. Your buffalo safety pin jacket is incredible and found its perfect match in the leopard skirt and orange top! I'm a big fan of those shoes and the waterlily-pad scarf too!
Cramming three days' worth of work into one sounds exhausting, but I'm sure the thought of your five-day weekend kept you going. Have a fabulous one, Sheila! xxx

  5. The jacket is so cool! I also have a jacket that's snug, but I can't bear to part with it, so wear it open.
    Another fabulous colour/pattern mix. x

  6. I always love to see that jacket when you wear it! It is so awesome! I love it with the various shades of orange in your ensemble.

By now, you are enjoying your mini-vacation. Having just come back from a week visiting my daughter's family, I know that this is a beautiful time of year in the NW, and I hope you have some amazing daffodils and cherry blossoms to enjoy during your time off!
