Olive, Black Velvet and Gold, and Return of the Spring Coats

There are only a few outfits left in my fall/winter closet - I'm planning on doing my seasonal swap-over this weekend (excited!) - and I'm trying to get to my extra wears, not-yet-worn items and old favourites into ensembles before I pack them away.

There are two second-wearings in this outfit plus a just-purchased garment.
None of these things will be remaining out in my spring/summer closet - I do mostly stick to seasonal colours and fabrics in the warmer months.

  • Medallion top - no label, thrifted; first seen here in November 2023 with gold and olive
  • Vest top - Sun Kim, consignment; first worn here (3rd outfit) in February with copper and black gloves for a party
  • Velvet skirt - Rachel Roy, thrifted; purchased here for $7.47
  • Shoes - Super Fine Cardinal, Fluevog; last seen here for New Year's Eve, December 2023
  • Coat - Cache, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in late September 2023

It was another rainy, drizzly, grey day, so at least I didn't overheat!
The slinky jersey top is a good layering piece - it's comfy and warm. Keeper!

The olive top could stay out, as I liked it with bare arms when I first styled it, but the colour doesn't harmonize with all the brights that are coming. Or maybe it will! I'll decide in the moment.
I had to squeeze in a wearing of this gorgeous silk-mixed velvet skirt. It was wonderful to wear - felt very luxe. That's a very good $7.47 spent.

I love the gold zipper.
I put it at a comfortable height for striding about.

On Sunday, I put away all my heavy coats for the season, and un-bagged my light coats.
Once again, as I've done every year since I bought it, I said, "Oh, yeah!" when I unpacked this perfect leopard coat. It's lined in crimson red! Oh, yeah!

I defiantly wore sunglasses even though it rained on the way home.
I like being incognito.

Accoutrements:
This silk scarf is whisper-soft and just warm enough for this weather.

  • Scarf - vintage thrifted
  • Gloves - Thinsulate, thrifted

The stuff:
I usually keep these shoes out for my long flowy skirts in early spring/early fall. Gold is a handy colour in shoes!

Gold bling:
I swap over my jewelry seasonally as well, so most of this is getting packed away.

  • Necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Bracelet w/pink stones - D'Orlan, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Leafy gold bracelet - thrifted, Sidney
  • Brutalist brass rings - both vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage, vintage mall
  • Brooch (worn on coat) - vintage 60s, Mom's

But as with my clothes, I decide in the moment what stays and what goes, what gets packed away, and what goes to Limbo.

I change up my coat closet quarterly, except for summer - I shift the contents in fall, winter and spring only. I forgot to take a pic of the "before" coat closet (I assure you, it was perfect *snort*).
Here's the "after" with all my spring coats, capes and other assorted outerwear. Welcome back, my colourful friends!

  1. I get it. You need to wear sunglasses even in the rain to keep from being recognized and swamped by your fans. :)

  2. Silk velvet is so luxe! I can't think of a more luxurious fabric.

Good disguise there; I'm sure no-one will notice you ;-)

  3. As you do the Winter to Spring change I am about to do the reverse. Easy to see why you are excited about wearing that exquisite leopard coat again. Enjoy Spring.

  4. Hello brightly colored and patterned outer wear! The gold shoes and jersey top were made for one another, and I quite get the appeal of going incognito, though, as Mim commented, “I’m sure no-one will notice you ;)”

I’ve been waiting for my sunglasses to be ready after needing a prescription upgrade in the right lens. No incognito for me till the glasses return!

As always, I look forward to your big time closet swap!!
    Cheers, Laurie

  5. I'm clearly not as organised as you. Every time I see you in leopard print, I remember I have a leopard print coat stashed away. Must dig it out! Love the sound of the crimson lining. x

  6. What a delectable peep at your wonderfully colourful coat rail!
That looks a very luxurious outfit, Sheila. I love olive and gold together, those shoes wouldn't look out of place on Louis XIV, The Sun King! The pendant rocks! xxx

  7. Of course you had to squeeze in a wearing of that skirt, and I absolutely love the way you styled it! And oh hello, perfect leopard coat! Also loving your gold shoes and bling, particularly the necklace and the bracelet with the pink stones!
Your rail of Spring coats is looking very inviting, I bet you can't wait to give them all an outing. I put away my heavy Winter coats as well, and the temperature promptly took a dive :-)
Good luck with your seasonal swap-over, I might make a start with mine too. xxx
