No More Wine, All the Snakes, and a Hint

Hello, my friends! Another day, another outfit, another dress. And this one is leaving my closet - I'm through with it.
No more wine dress! It snagged on everything and annoyed the heck out of me.

  • Dress - H&M, consignment; first worn here (3rd outfit) in September 2023 for Book Club
  • Booties - Ecco, thrifted; last seen here in January for a Mom-Day Adventure at Blenkinsop Lake
  • Coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last worn here in February

As you can see, I'm modeling the heck out of it - make it work, through sheer force of will!
I did get my money's worth - I paid a whopping $2.00 for it, finding it in the "last call" bin at Pocket back in September.

This shape isn't one I gravitate towards much anymore, either. I was a big fan of the "fit and flare" after watching every episode of "What Not To Wear" back in the day.
Those days when every magazine (remember those?) had articles galore about how one should or should not dress over a certain age.

I'm so glad those days are gone, aren't you? Wear what makes you happy!
And this dress does not make the cut. Begone!

This photo makes me happier.
I like that this puffer (aka "puffa") coat doesn't make me look like a marshmallow, due to the wraparound tie fastening.

It was bright enough that I needed my sunnies and could stroll about incognito.
It was absolutely freezing today and I kicked myself for not wearing more layers - shoot, darn it and geez, Sheila, when will you learn?

Accoutrements:
I hope it's warmer tomorrow

  • Scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage 80s, Mom's
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Toque - no label, thrifted

The stuff:
It's not the sun playing with your eyes - those boots are a dark purple. They're insanely comfy.

Snaky bling:
"This belt is by Leather of the Sea," I told L, who laughed at the name. "It's real python!"

  • Belt - Leather of the Sea, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Multi-coloured snake bracelet - vintage mall, gift from L
  • Tortoiseshell snake cuff - vintage shop, Sidney
  • Silver snake ring - c. 1986, BC Museum Gift Shop
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall

This is my last work outfit until Friday - I'm taking a 2-day break in the middle of my week for my Super-Secret Thing (don't worry, it's nothing bad). I have been pondering how to share it here on the blog...and I am not sure how much I CAN share until it actually happens...so I hid a hint in this post.

  3. Look forward to your news. As to your dress , its a great colour but agree if it catches time to go. The purple boots do look so comfy as well as super stylish.

  4. I don’t blame you, letting go of the Impractical dress, however pretty it might be.
What a clever design choice on the puffer jacket…it makes such a difference to the silhouette!
It’s frustrating when the weather is too cold to wear exactly what your mood dictates, but stay warm! It’s bad enough getting caught out here, but Canadian weather is no doubt more punishing! X

  6. Oh my oh my oh my oh, what a blast and here’s to the two of you thoroughly enjoying yourselves and thank your for the hint that was right before my eyes! ;)

As for your outfit, I like the look but completely know if it isn’t love then it’s not worth the wear. Plus to my eye it’s hard to tell if the material is soft or otherwise, and I gift away anything that doesn’t make my skin happy. Ditto what Jill wrote about the boots, am going to scroll back and see what brand they are.

Enjoy your two day adventure, you are a model for how to enjoy the week and one’s clothes!
    Cheers, Laurie

  7. I got the hint too: that's absolutely brilliant!
Hearing you on the wine dress, loud and clear. It's fabulous to look at though! And the python belt is a stunner! xxx

  8. The dress is pretty but if it snags, it will be annoying! Ahrgh, I'd hate to be told not to wear something I like!x

  9. Hello. Could your leather belt be eel? I have seen manta ray and eel leather items occasionally. Have followed you for so long. Am a total fan.

    1. No, it says "genuine python" on the belt (but the brand is known for manta ray and eel). Thank you!

  10. Awww, I already know about the photoshoot but loved your subtle as a brick hints! Life's too short for a dress that catches on everything. xxx
