Weekend Wrap-Up: Funky Chunky and Orange Jammy; Brunch in Black and Tan; and Cat Pics

Welcome back, my friends! It's been a lovely weekend, and I've got outfits to share with you.

Of course I planned carefully to showcase these new-to-me chunky sneakers for a Funky Friday!
I have to admit, I'm sold. Expect me to wear these again!

  • Dress - Zara, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in December 2023 for brunch with L and Nick
  • Leather jacket (below) - Luna, vintage 80s, thrifted; first worn here in November 2023 with mustard murmurations
  • Sneakers - L'intervalle, consignment; purchased here last week for $75.00
  • Cape (below) - Arola, Finnish, vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in December 2023 over this dress

I went the safe route for creating the outfit, and just matched everything to the sneakers.
Orange Jammy dress! My tights have glittery gold dots on them.

Friday was a busy day - I needed comfort and armour.
I wore this out to the Fernwood Inn (aka The Winchester) for dinner on Friday night - a chance for L and to connect again after a long week.

I liked all the glass in our booth, including a framed piece of glass art.
The gold and green window panes are both very old - they are 3-D, like ripples.

We split a seafood risotto and a house salad, then strolled home.
A boisterous evening of board games and music ensued.

I left this leather "carapace" jacket on while at the pub, but didn't wear it in the office.
It's cute, though - I like the look both ways.

Done up - only for putting on the cape.
I had zero pockets in this outfit, which ended up being a huge annoyance.

I have nowhere to put my stuff!
And the purse has only one big compartment inside. I was forever rooting around it looking for keys, lipstick, phone and wallet.

However, I looked fabulous!
"You did? Says who?"

Little monster!

I grabbed him for a cuddle nonetheless.
"You're not really leaving, are you?"

You're just going to sleep all day, buddy. And we'll have quality evening time with you.

Accoutrements:
The Marimekko scarf was a simple underlayer.

  • Beret - Parkhurst, consignment
  • Scarf - Marimekko x Uniqlo, consignment
  • Gloves - Echo, consignment

The stuff:
The sneakers were fabulous for an all-day wear - I walked to and from work in them, then to and from the pub. No issues!

Metal bling:
I took the big studded cuff off to wear my gloves - so that was also rattling around in my purse.

  • Belt - B-Low the Belt, thrifted
  • Chain cuff - consignment
  • Lucite/silver cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Silver/obsidian ring - vintage mall
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
  • Ball earrings - vintage fair

As I was pre-blogging (I work on my weekend post here and there throughout the weekend), I felt eyes on me.
"Feed me or the camera gets it."

He started chewing on the camera cord just after I took this pic.

Saturday found us both running late - we slept in - but we had zero line-up at John's Place for brunch, so practically walked right in. No wee shop for me!
I styled up this new-to-me leather Helmut Lang skirt with some other favourites.

  • Sweater - Scotch & Soda by Maison Scotch, consignment; last worn here in November 2023 for a Mom-Day walk near Swan Lake
  • Lambskin leather skirt - Helmut Lang, consignment; purchased here for $36.00
  • Boots - Clarks; last seen here in January with dragonscale and mustard
  • Coat (below) - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment, Sidney; last worn here in February

Mini skirts require careful planning - dark tights and tall boots are the way to go for me, these days.
I layered a thermal silk long-sleeved top under the sweater, and the tights are fleece-lined.

I tucked in one side of the sweater to show the contrast leather at the waistband of the skirt.
I love the uneven hemline of the skirt - I know it makes some of you twitchy! Not everyone like asymmetry.

I am a massive fan of this sweater, and took my cue from the brown edging on the neck, hem and cuffs to add more brown into my outfit.
Caramel boots are a nice change from black.

Wait, must show you my giant pockets!
All skirts should have them!

Outerwear - it was sunny but cold and windy.
A nice snuggly fleece ultra-suede coat.

Good for striding about.
We had to run some errands after brunch - L picked up a suit and some altered pants at Outlooks, plus books and CDs he'd ordered from Russell Books and Ditch Records. I had a browse in Dots while he dashed about, but didn't find anything at a quick glance. I need to spend some time and go through their new stock for the hidden gems.

We also had to drop by Turnabout on Oak Bay Avenue for a Very Special Errand.
But I can't discuss that just yet! It's Super Secret...I plan to have more details for you in the next week. It did involve me buying the most expensive skirt I've ever purchased, though...

Accoutrements:
I love this tissue-thin silk scarf - so pretty.

  • Purse - Ted Lapidus, vintage 90s, vintage fair
  • Scarf - Janie Besner, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - Picabo, Powell River

The stuff:
"Great boots," said a person in Dots. They'll be 10 years old this October - I've worn them close to 45 times!

Black and brown bling:
I wore the two eelskin bracelets together.

  • Lucite/gold cuff/earrings - Alexis Bittar, consignment, gift from L
  • Eelskin hinged bracelet - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Eelskin bangle - fake Gucci, Italy, gift from Mom and Dad
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Wooden ring - Dots

We always do a sweep of the house before leaving, to ensure that Vizzini isn't trapped in a closet, and we simply could not find him. I laughed when I finally discovered his newest napping spot.
"So these weren't put here for me?"

My silk scarves! Vizzini, you can't sleep there. Those are vintage!

I thought cats were creatures of habit, always sleeping in the same spots. Not this kitty!
"What? I always sleep here."

Total lies!

L and I spent a leisurely Sunday getting caught up on chores, and hanging out together. Another busy week ahead...
"I love the Man, but I see another favourite spot that needs attending to."

I was lounging in bed reading and drinking my coffee, when L brought Vizzini in for a visit. He quickly moved here.
"All is safe with Officer Vizzini (ret.) on the case."

This bedroom snoozing spot IS a preferred area, as it has updrafts of warm air from the baseboard heater below the window. A view birds in the trees, people on the sidewalk, and a bath of warm air, perfect for an old kitty to while away his day.

I hope you enjoyed our weekend pictures, and again thank you all for visiting!

  1. Categorically I wince at uneven hemlines BUT the Helmut Lang skirt is a beauty and only a very small portion is uneven, it’s almost geometric. In other words, I love it! Indeed, the whole outfit, as well as Friday’s orange beauty (and comfy sneakers, three cheers!) are winners and worth repeating in the future.

Vizzini, your initial choice of a resting spot is silken high class, but on the forbidden list. Better luck next time!

Always enjoy your surprises so looking forward to the big reveal in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, here’s to managing the busy week! Does Victoria have Daylight Savings Time? We do and I believe it is next weekend, when we turn the clocks forward an hour. I wish we would just split the difference, move the clocks forward one Half hour and then never change them!

    Cheers, Laurie

  2. Great report! A secret... yumm. Phrase often heard in high fashion: "I look fabulous." Phrase never heard in high fashion: "I matched everything to the sneakers." :)

  3. Great ensembles! I particularly enjoyed the second one; personally, I have a thing for interesting hemlines.

You have grabbed everyone's curiosity with the mention of a "super secret"!

  4. Shame about the lack of pockets, but your Funky Friday outfit is just perfect in every other way!
As for Saturday's outfit, oh my, don't you look fantastic! You definitely do suit a mini skirt and it looks amazing with the black tights and caramel boots.
Vizzini certainly knows how to pick the poshest spots: silk scarves indeed!
Oh, and I pre-blog all the time! xxx

  5. A secret? My mind has gone into over drive, Sheila...

Lovely outfits; fab boots and sneakers and wonderful accessories. Love the cape, too. I'm not a fan of asymmetric clothing but the skirt looked brilliant with the thick tights and long boots. I am no longer comfortable with a skirt too far above my knee; which is a shame as I've seen many lovely ones in the charity shops lately.

Such a wonderful photo of Vizzini with L.

  6. Oh you are a tease!
Vizzini and that glorious glass screen with the bull's eye glass are both fabulous sights on a Tuesday morning and your outfits are pretty incredible, too. Love the new trainers, the orange dress and your superb Halston coat. I'm in the anti-asymmetric camp but I'll allow that skirt, it's not too wonky! xxx

  8. I quite like asymmetry and this skirt is a stunner and you wear short skirts so well. Love your outer wear too.
    Sounds a good weekend .
