Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Cat's Pajamas for Brunch; Flashback Regret-Me-Nots; and Yellow and Snakeskin

I hope you've all been having a wonderful weekend! It was a trouser-y kind of time for me; first, I wore actual pajama pants in public (!), and then went all flowy for a dinner out with L's aunt.

Brunch first - it's been a tough season so far for our Ultimate Frisbee group, as travel is on everyone's minds and our regular players are absent. But L and I always enjoy a nice brunch out at the Ruby.
I challenged myself to wear these new-to-me actual pajama bottoms in an actual out-in-public outfit before they join the rest of my house-clothes.

  • Jacket - H&M, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in May in a "meh" outfit
  • Sweater - Beechers Brook, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Pajama pants - Victoria's Secret, consignment; purchased here for $28.00
  • Sandals - Dr. Scholls, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in May for chillin' at Chris/Ali's

One of the first things I tried with them was this fun "Jammy jacket" - I've always thought it has a very pajama-y vibe.
The red stripes match the stripes on the pants, plus the pinks sort of go.

My new red top is just a basic for wearing underneath.
Plus it's long enough to lay nice and flat under the waistband of the pants.

No crack-a-lackin' in these!
As I was standing in line for brunch, a gentleman paused to tell me, "You look so sharp!"

Without the jacket.
We sat in the window with the sun beaming on us (off and on - it was very windy), I heated up to the point where I took the jacket off.
I love pink and red together.

Masked up - I realized as I was gathering my accessories and accoutrements that I was building a theme.
Bits of black to help ground things and keep it all from looking too much like "I wore my pajamas in public."

Incognito.
I added a scarf as it's still cool out.

Accoutrements:
The pink and red of my vintage Halston scarf went well with the colours in the outfit.

  • Silk scarf - Halston, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

Do you see the grey kitties on the mask?

The stuff:
These shoes are done - I know, they've been regret-me-notted to within an inch of their life, but today, my feet were very sore after wearing them, and the inside of the leather is peeling off. That's enough to say goodbye permanently. I'll be on the lookout for replacements...with a lower heel.

Kitty bling:
More kitties! See, it's the Cat's Pajamas!

  • Red/black cuff - vintage, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Leather/steel cuff - Rimanchik
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Silver/enamel ring - antique shop, Sidney
  • Cat earrings - Winnie Tam
  • Cat pin - Charmaine's

I do like a clever bit of wordplay.

Flashback: Black Dr. Scholls Sandals

Since we're saying goodbye to these black sandals, it's only appropriate that we do a Flashback. I bought them on one of my many former shopping expeditions to the now-closed My Sister's Closet in Fairfield on a Sunday back here in July 2016.
They are leather, with a suede foot-bed.
The soles - to my surprise - are wood. I paid $26.98 for them.

I first wore them in July 2016 to work.
This cerulean skirt was a vintage favourite for years - unfortunately, the moths got it. The blouse didn't last long.

Enjoy watching my hair grow!
This is a casual look from August 2016. Nothing from this outfit is still in my closet.

This is also from August 2016. I still love this rock & roll vibe.
I still have that shiny metallic leopard mini, but I would not be wearing it with bare legs. I must have just thrifted it - most of my minis reside in my fall/winter wardrobe so that I can wear tights with them.

Aw, I'd forgotten about the whale sweater, worn here in September 2016.
I passed it along to my coworker Trish's daughter a few years ago. I loved that skirt, but it was always too tight.

This outfit - also from September 2016 - makes me laugh, as both the sweater and the camo pants were worn around the house until they fell apart.
But I wore them to work here!

Longer hair - it must be 2017. Yup, this was May 2017.
I still have that leather peplum top, and those jeans were around-the-house pants for many years - very rarely worn in public (they were cheap Avon and a good example of "nice from far, far from nice").

I donated this strapless vintage 80s dress a few years ago - this just isn't my style anymore.
I have very few shorter cardigans these days. That danged belt never stayed done up.

You might recognize this double-peplum jacket, as it's still in my closet.
There's that skirt again - I think these were the only two times I wore it. This was in August 2017.

My hair's gotten long and has changed to a reddish-purple here in April 2018. I grew out my natural grey/white over a year by dying it lighter shades of purple > burgundy > lavender, then switched to toning/semi-permanent colour until it was mostly grown out. It was gentler on my hair than having all the colour removed in one go - since I have always dyed my own hair, this was the easiest way for me to do it. Plus, I enjoyed all the different colours.
I'm wearing the same leather peplum top underneath this vintage suede suit. I let go of the suit this year - it didn't feel right.

I'll never let go of this wonderful vintage dress, seen here in May 2018.
I know it's a fave of a few of my readers! I've never seen its equal in all my shopping.

Vizzini's photobombing me here in July 2018 - I wore this outfit for our Canada Day long weekend.
I adore that skirt - I'm waiting for the weather to get warmer before I wear it again. It's very thin silk/cotton.

This outfit is also from July 2018.
Ah, my Alexander McQueen checkerboard trousers! These are a wee bit snug on me (I'm working on it), but they keep me honest, and are one of the treasures in my closet. I am not allowed to outgrow them! [self-imposed rule]

Time has elapsed - and it's April 2019. What a difference 8 months makes: my hair has grown about 4 inches.
The pants have made the cut many times, but I let go of the top.

This dress is long gone, but my PANK wool moto jacket survives.
This was in June 2019 for L's birthday lunch with Mom.

July 2019, and my hair has nearly grown out - I continued toning it lavender until early 2020 when I decided to colour it pastel pink and cut it to a lob (long bob). but now I'm coming around to this again. I change my hair frequently.
The Dries van Noten "pirate" skirt is a firm favourite, but I let go of the pixelated rose silk blouse.

And now we have a large time jump, to May 2022, which is the last time I wore these shoes, having pulled them out of the Pandemic Pile O' Giveaways where they slept for nearly 3 years.
Hmmm...that's the "Should I keep them?" face. And the answer is, finally and forever, no.

Mathy stuff: Well, I think I have gotten my money's worth. Today's outfit marks the 17th wearing of my black sandals, which works out to $1.59 per outfit. I'm very happy with that, but as I noted, I'm on the lookout for new strappy black sandals.

L's Aunt Lenora was in town, so L picked her up and I bussed to town to meet them at Cactus Club for dinner. L was surprised that I changed outfits - does the man not know me?
I've had these snakeskin print trousers in the "outfit planning" area of my closet for months, waiting for warmer weather.

  • Silk topper - NancyMac, consignment; last seen here in August 2021 for a Mom-Day Adventure in Sidney
  • Sweater - Ellen Tracy, swap from Caro; last worn here in April 2021
  • Trousers - Sage; first seen here in February with a brown cardigan

They're tricky, as I just don't have that much brown or cream in my spring/summer wardrobe.
But I really liked how they went with this cream and brown 100% silk topper.

But wait! There's yellow!
The topper is basically connected ginormous sleeves.

Vizzini photobombed me.
"You better not leave without feeding me dinner, Woman."

Please, I value my belongings - he got his dinner. He was snoozing on the deck ten minutes later.
Ready to face the public.

And Aunt Lenora. She's L's mom's sister, and is a lovely lady.
"I wonder if there's food in this bag?"

It being the coldest spring in forever, I added a silk/viscose/cashmere scarf for the bus ride home.

Accoutrements:
I had to put the bag on first and then the topper. Some outerwear just doesn't work well with bags.

  • Purse - Street Level, thrifted
  • Scarf - gift from Mom, Italy
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I wore socks and ankle boots. Gotta keep my feet warm!

Yellow bling:
Some old favourites. I need to Woly my boots - those light toes are rather noticeable!

  • Necklace - vintage 1920s, gift from L
  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Bakelite earrings - vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Bangle - vintage 1920s, vintage mall
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Smoky topaz/silver ring - Anneli Neuman, vintage mall

Our server at Cactus Club was kind enough to take a pic of the three of us. We had a lovely dinner and caught up. The restaurant was hoppin' busy which was a little startling/anxiety-making.
Lenora brought us some Okanagan Valley (interior BC, known for its farming) jams, jellies and a fabulous spicy strawberry salad dressing - what a sweet gift. So good to see you, Lenora!

We spent Sunday relaxing and unwinding. Laundry, soup-making, blog catch-up, etc.
"Bothering the cat, etc."

I found Vizzini lurking under the bed, sleeping in L's tie-box (a vintage 80s hat-box, thrifted decades ago). I hope those silk Versace, Dior and Pucci ties are comfortable for you, Your Lordship.
"It would be better without the flash, Woman."

Life in general would be better without the flash; I agree, buddy.

Wishing you all a quiet and peaceful weekend!

  1. Haha, Vizzini just ownes everything just like our cats do. Those sandals I love! I had sandals similar to those and sold them on a few months ago because I never wore them. But they are so lovely. Also like the pyama trousers and the black and white with yellow! I am on the hunt for a pre loved yellow top!

    1. Yellow tops are insanely difficult to find, Nancy. Most of them are see-through - why??

  2. If the shoes cause pain, they have run their course. All the flashbacks were fun. Interesting what you've no longer kept and why.

    1. Thanks, Vronni! I felt very stealthy in my pajama pants. Vizzini has "owned" that tie-box for his whole life.

  7. I love the bright colours in the first outfit, and it's fantastic you were able to make those pants work for outside wear - they do look like all those fun pyjama pants that are trendy at the moment, probably because they are actual pyjamas! you wear them stylishly as always! Really like the yellow pops in the second outfit too with the neutrals :)

Shame to see those shoes go as you have so much wear from them - but better to have ones that are comfortable I agree!

    1. I found it hilarious and very "out there" to be wearing actual pajamas in public, Mica! They're firmly in my "house clothes" wardrobe now - they've been wonderful in our heat! I miss the shoes, but they hurt too much.

  8. Those are fancy pjs! Vizzini is super fancy too in "his" hatbox. So bittersweet to say goodbye to a favourite pair of shoes!
