Snakeskin Palazzo Pants, Brutalist and Brown

Over the past couple of days, it feels like the tide has turned. There are blossoms trying to burst, the temps are nearly into two digits, and even the sun has come out here and there.

And what did I do? I wore brown.
I wanted to create an outfit with these new snakeskin palazzo pants, and also to wear this new-to-me cardigan again.

  • Cardigan - Karen Millen, consignment; first worn here in December 2021
  • Sweater - Judith & Charles, consignment; last seen here, layered, in December 2021
  • Palazzo pants - Sage; purchased here for $11.99 on the weekend
  • Booties - Coffee Kope Tiam, Fluevog; last worn here on New Year's Eve, December 2021
  • Coat (below) - Apparance, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in January

I've decided that the cardigan is not staying.
It just doesn't feel like me, and all that collar is too bulky (and it doesn't look good without the faux fur collar).

That's okay, better to do this now.
It'll go into the giveaway pile for the next time I host Winesday. And speaking of...our province had good news today: our restrictions for home gatherings have been completely lifted! Huzzah! No limits on people in our homes!

See how much better the pants are with just the sweater underneath? I even look happier, although all these pictures are taken in my pre-caffeinated morning brain-fog.
I'm likely going to put the pants into the spring/summer pile, even though they are fully-lined.

That's a wide leg and it creates a lot of breeze when I'm walking around.
They'll be better with a nice bright summery colour, like yellow or turquoise. I think I still have sandals in this print too.

Masked up. Our mask mandates remain in place - we still have to wear them in public places, and we also still have to show our proof of vaccination in many venues and businesses, including restaurants.
But we're now allowed big groups in restaurants and pubs, and we're permitted mingling. Oh, I am all about the mingle! Bring on a weekend pub hangout!

Outerwear - this is likely the last outing this season for the Unsafe Polar Bear. I am ready to swap some of my heavy/thick coats out for my pre-spring coats.
I found myself wishing for my snakeskin trench today, so that I could be snaky head to toe.

Accoutrements:
I didn't need a scarf with the massive collar on the cardigan plus the shawl collar on the coat.

  • Gloves - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I really did not do any colour today! These are the most neutral footwear I own, I think. I've worn them well over 30 times now.

Brutalist bling:
I'm getting a nice collection.

  • Solid cuff/hinged cuff/necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, gifts from L, vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage 1920s, gift from L, vintage mall
  • Volcano ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall

I packed away my deep-dark-winter coats after work and rediscovered my spring coats. I'm looking forward to wearing them all again!

  1. The pants seem very versatile, and I'm sure you'll wear them with even more creativity. Enjoy healthier get togethers with your friends!

    1. Yes, I'm excited both to wear the pants again, AND to have some quality hang-out time with friends. Thanks so much, Sam!

  2. Those snakeskin palazzos look great but I agree about the cardi. When you pictured them after you'd bought them I immediately thought of that lovely long silvery cardi you wore with the black cashmere dress in a recap a week or so ago.
The Unsafe Polar Bear always brings a smile to my face. xxx

    1. Yes, the cardi and I did not sit well together this time. I agree on a long-over-long look, Vix - not sure I would mix the grey vest with the brown snakeskin (I find grey/brown a very drab combo), but in general, yes.

I love that coat. I'll be very sad when it falls apart (it's getting a little ragged).

  3. I'm hearing you on the cardigan, Sheila, but those snakeskin palazzos are an absolute delight. They will look a treat with one of your Spring/Summer tops and sandals! Gorgeous bling too!
I won't be packing any of my Winter coats away for at least another month, as it's not uncommon here to have a late cold snap and snow. Not today, though. We're into double figures but oh my there's a storm brewing! xxx

    1. Aren't they fun, Ann? I am excited to play with them in the summer.

It's the same here, but I'm going to risk it and count on my massive coat collection to still have something that will do in icy cold weather.

  4. Mm, it feels a bit strange seeing you with no bright colours at all. I like the look without the cardigan much better. We don't have any restrictions anymore as of this Friday, gosh finally. I'm waiting for someone to make a appointment with abs when I've done we can schedule aZoom!

    1. I know, right, Nancy? It felt odd to me too. I also prefer it without the cardi.

Yay! Let me know when we can do a Zoom! :)

  5. This is a lovely neutral outfit and although it has no bright colours the pants are definitely interesting enough for you not to notice the missing brights. They are beautiful on you!
It's great news you have some more restrictions relaxed too! We don't have any indoor limits at home, just at business where it's a few people per square meter, and of course the mask rules indoors. We have a crazy explosion of cases right now and so many people are having their kids catch it from school and then infecting the rest of the family but we have only had 2 cases in our kids school (I'm sure it must be more but they aren't telling us...) so far we've gotten through the first couple of weeks fine.

    1. That's the goal, Mica! I don't mind a neutral outfit as long as it has other interesting things in it. Thank you!

It's a big step for us! We still have mask/distancing in public places too. Good luck and stay safe!

  6. Even if it's a neutral outfit, it's still stylish and interesting, dear Sheila!. Totally agree with Vix that these trousers would look fab with any long cardi or vest, going for more floatiness!. Lots of possibilities here!

    1. Agreed, I have everything but colour going on. I love the idea of long and flowy SOMETHING over these trousers. Thanks!

  7. I love that cardigan, I had a similar one, slightly longer and in black and I loved wearing.Maybe I still have it? I need to reorganize my closet.
You styled those snake print palazzo pants fabulous. I'm a big fan of palazzo pants and I do like a bold pattern. You rock!

    1. I feel like I remember seeing you in it, Ivana. This time wearing this cardi, it just didn't feel like me - and I no longer wanted it.

      Thank you, same here!

  9. Definitely prefer the pants with just the cream sweater on top. I have no idea what level of restrictions we have going on here. Mask mandates are still in place, and I had to show proof of vaccination to sit in Starbucks yesterday. I have tickets for a concert in Toronto on March 31st and I assume that places will be back at full capacity by then. It's going to feel very strange, that's for sure.

    1. Yup, same - it's definitely a hot weather pair of pants.

It feels odd here too - our office is the same (masks and stuff) but it feels like nearly all of the rest of the world is almost open. We still have to show our cards whenever we enter a restaurant or seated venue.

  10. Fantastic outfit! I think that brown suits this time of the year excellently. It is a visual reminder that, little by little, as winter retreats, we will once again see the bare earth, from which the next several months of new plant life will burst forth.
